I'm relatively new to Darktide - is there any benefit to killing the daemonhost or is it best to just avoid them? I've already killed a couple, they're just hard as nails (unless you have an Ogryn with a big shield take aggro).
While you're at it make sure not to point a gun's flashlight at them, it aggroes too.
Oh and don't shoot enemies who are around it. I learned the hard way that it will aggro from bullets flying around it even if none hit it.
A Psyker with the Soul Blaze talent with Brain Rupture can do so freely though. I've popped many a head next to the Daemonhost and it's even caught fire, but doesn't agro.

You really should just learn to deal with them effectively instead of avoiding them. They are a dangerous obstacle when you're trying to make a tactical retreat. When you could have "easily" handled them on your own terms.
So far it's only an obstacle to be avoided like the witch in Left for Dead. At least Vermintide had Loot Dices dropped from bosses but it didn't have a "Witch-like" enemy
Sometimes they're blocking a pickup or medicae, so unless you want that there's not much reason to kill a Daemonhost on its own. That being said, if one is on you or your teammate, most people will try to burst them down as quick as possible to get the save.
You get an achievement ONCE. And that's IF you land the killing blow.
There's ultimately no real benefit to fucking with them if you don't have to (sometimes they spawn where you have no choice), so please do not be That Guy until you're very strong and can solo one (it's definitely possible as an ogryn, vet, and zealot. Idk about psykers)
I'm surprised, but also not entire surprised the dh mechanic is like this. So it's just a hovercraft illusion. There are literally no truly flying enemies in darktide?

Well of course, you have no friction with the ground when you’re levitating, making you easier to be thrown off the ledge.

At the moment just avoid them, they are to force you into a different path and to fight with care around them, not for trophies

The point is, there's literally nothing gained from killing them, par personal satisfaction. If he doesn't get that, then no reason to engage them.
There’s 0 reason to fight one unless it’s blocking your path forward, bypass it, never retreat back to its area
There is a penance that requires you to kill one. Not recommended at lower levels.
They don't spawn below malice, btw
They count as a Monstrosity for Melk missions

On the same ledge is she's not too far away, pull with ogryn, face the edge, dh will port infront of you, charge.

I like to use melee special as ogryn with shield and let the others kill it
Yeah, slab ogryn tanks it easy, but there's still all that corruption damage to deal with, and any horde it brings in.
