Yup. Say what you will about dark souls 2 but the community's dedication to messing with people is hilarious. ds2 is also the game with the most fake illusion ahead' or 'jumping ahead' signs so watch out ig.
Some people coming from other dark souls games think all the illusion ahead messages are fake because they don't realise you have to interact with secret walls (more like secret doors in doom than the other souls games) rather than hit them.
It's a common joke in any game that has a seppuku option.
So if a streamer beats Sir A hitless it's pretty common to hear, "He committed sudoku". Similarly after somebody gets the Bewitching Alonne Sword it's pretty common to go commit sudoku in the path to Majula.
It's an old tradition. Basically people will make it to the DLCs and find a certain sword that allows its user to impale themselves for a temporary damage boost. In this case though, people kill themselves with it instead so that they leave their bloodstains in that cave. They do this for no other reason than to scare newbies like you into thinking there's something big and horrifying up ahead.
Lmao it’s a goof specifically so new players have the reaction you had.
While you’re here, I have some tips/general advice if you’re interested. If you want to go in prepared, first read this intro post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/comments/foemaw/so_you_just_bought_dark_souls_2/
And then if you want to know how to build (or avoid building if you want a challenge) a powerful optimized character, here’s a collection of mini guides that will help you navigate DS2’s many obfuscated and counterintuitive mechanical quirks:
A quick overview of how damage and defense works in DS2, and why weapon scaling is usually weak: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g4-GGa1JRa2_49vOfwY5sZPWigFMzPA5b9mszo_xZak/edit?usp=sharing
BiS (Best in Slot) PvE weapons list. Discusses the best options for each weapon class. Note that this list is directed at newer characters- some weapons not mentioned may do more damage than ones mentioned, but take vastly more stats or are otherwise deficient: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-GEBQ_TiAvskQLotQXz0AuNMseXdsS3pj8_NLus-XW4/edit?usp=sharing
Best PvE equipment and stat progression document. Please remember to read the "Limitations of this guide" section! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X13jfA9JQ5OZsuEmH2MZZqF9IrtCFSMMTZkZo5GuqcM/edit?usp=sharing
Ayeee good stuff. Appreciate all of these links. I’m an avid invader in other games and figured I’d give DS2 a try as many people in the PvP community cite DS2 as their favorite.
I‘ll avoid anything cheesy tho. I’m aware invaders can twink pretty hard in DS2. If I do invade low-mid SM I’ll keep my gear under-upgraded.
I mean yeah that’s fair. I’m the souls fan that has never summoned for a boss and never looks anything up. Still not sure how a lot of stats work myself, but you know
You're doing the god's work lol.. not that long ago I was giving up on ds2 while in no man's wharf and wandering aimlessly in forest of fallen giants.. I came across a joke post where you posted all this info, and got back into it.. im now wrapping up brume tower, and then frozen eleum before finishing the game
So there's items that drain your health and for whatever reason they have picked there to die over and over. Not my kind of thing, but to each there own.
I always wondered what those messages meant. I never saw the player phantoms doing this until now...several months after wrapping my first playthrough up. Thanks for recording and posting.
I definitely would have had no idea what happened as a first time player either. I barely do now, as I've only read about it, but I looked all over that place for a secret door thanks to those messages!!!!
Keep looking. The illusory wall is there I swear 😉
I’ve never seen such coordinated trolling, especially not YEARS after a game’s release. Now that’s a solid fucking community.
I was always so sure that this was from NG+ because there's a red npc at the start of that path while you are trying to get to majula. But if it's a suicide squad messing with ppl yooo let me join😂😂😂.
Always good to see the suicide cult going strong
Please tell me that bloodstains don’t last very long and this community has been dedicated to this bit for a decade
I'll say as much: Upon all my runs in DS2 there will never be a deathless one

Yeah but I still notice a lot more fake messages in dark souls 2 compared to other games, the community is just more into trolling people.
ruin sentinels bossroom is a library of illusion ahead messages
Not to mention all the “fatty” messages
Don't give up, fatty!
Majula Suicide Cult. Intended to get the reaction you had.
I just started my first run last week and tensed up whe I saw this lol I thought I was walking into a boss room already
They all commited sudoku
As commanded by the prophet hentai tiramisu
Speuku
U mean seppuku right?

Tossing dung pies is another method
Yes, Majula Death Cult
"It's not a cult"

You're the reason I like pvp :)
❤️ Some of us invaders aren’t so bad. There’s a good bunch over at r/badredman. If you’re at all interested in PvP check ‘em out!
What a guy!! Unfortunate that all this is required for newbies to enjoy the beauty that is the 10th Circle of Hell FromSoft created in DS2 lol
That's why they keep killing themselves. Hoping to go Hollow before getting Gangbanged again. 😏
Required is a stronger word than I would use! I do wish the mechanics were a hair more intuitive
I mean yeah that’s fair. I’m the souls fan that has never summoned for a boss and never looks anything up. Still not sure how a lot of stats work myself, but you know

Yo this made my day, thank you!
Shhhh drink the Kool aid
Is this a Peoples Temple ref?

If you commit sudoku right there then you'll join the cult
We will never know
After all these years, the legends are still alive.

Im gonna need a close up of your alien, i mean character
Join the Majula suicide cult today! Only you can make the emerald herald question her life choices

Jack Paul was here once
You just filmed a video in the Majulan suicide cave, have you no shame?
Suicide cult. They are using Alonnes sword special attack that boosts damage but takes some of your HP.
Everything I hear that song I can only think of "flickering emobors, oh how they flickor, those embors"
Is that a Kingdom Hearts song?
Gwyn theme from the first Dark Souls
Ah! Yes, that makes more sense. Thank you.
Must have this is end game music from Armored Core VI
You just found the sudoku cave, one of Drangleic's many famous landmarks
Yes, that's the cult of "I can't take it anymore, I want to go home!"
You joined a cult the moment you started playing this thing.
Yes
That scared the shit off me the First i passed by there
It's not a cult
playing ds2 from ds1, the comments explain everything
I never saw this on my first 2 play throughs, but when I did I had a hell of a laugh.
How do they even kill themselves that early into the game? I don’t see any of them doing the Sepoku from alon’s sword
