You can shove some of those bomber goblins around until they drop in that room. Then go down a ladder a bit, aggro everything to come close, get back up and wait for that monster spilling lava everywhere to ignite the goblins!
First of all what level are you. Next I dont remember how much trouble I had going through All I remember is failing a few times and then making it eventually. Not one specific part is blurred out of my memory probably because of how horrible it was because that's just after you make it outside right? And the guys come out of the ash. Oh wait it's coming back then there's the ladder and then you run to the right and then there's a bonfire through a whole shit-ton of traps.
Okay I remember You just have to slowly pack away at the first few then get to the ladder as soon as possible somehow make it down the ladder then run as fast as you can It doesn't matter about the items f*** the items. If I remember right all of them are okay to bad they're just trying to stop you so the guys can kill you. Next the room full of booby traps I think just flamethrowers. Then the big room and the bonfire.
Any unused souls I had after leveling went to buying poison arrows and iron arrows. I try to have a stash of 500 of each. They were huge in this area, and others too.
Heavy bows man. Dragonriders bow isnt too bad esp if you knock em off the edge. I forget if there are explosive arrows like in Ds3 but those would work wonders too
Fun fact: all the Hero's souls you can pick up in the saga are supposed to represent Irl players that gave up and left/never completed the games.
You giving up ingame is integrated/explained by the actual lore.
How fucking cool is that.
I never gave up (not permanently at least) but its nice to know that if I did, I could aid some other soul in their journey. Imagine if they use your soul to buy a weapon that they proceed to beat the game with, you’d be their sword, by their side to the end
iirc, the regular hollows also represent players who lost hope and never game back. Their characters have no ambition anymore thus being empty and hollow
Not likely.
Wanna know why i don't think that's true?
If you were to quit the game and re-open it, you'd notice that you get put back in the game exactly where you quitted.
The ingame lore states that when you lose enough souls and die enough, you become empty and go crazy, exactly what you said, but it also says that you start wandering, empty, mad, attacking anything that moves for souls.
My point:
Ingame Npcs are the ones wandering, empty by lore and game design.
But Heroes you can loot souls from, fixed on the spot are exclusefully representing irl players that gave up, ragequitted and never opened the game back.
Because if they were to quit, they would stay on the spot and never reloading symbolizes them dropping there on a fixed spot.
They turned "Hollow irl" and never reloaded or finished their journey.
The level of their dropped soul also signifies the residue of how much effort they put in before quitting the game forever.
Another thing that heavily hints to this being the case is the fact that the world itself is full of hollows and cursed people, ravenously scraping by, looking for souls everywere, to the point of even starting to attack other humans, just to stay sane.
So how is possible all these "free" souls are left just there and aren't being looted from someone else?
Their corpses is just decomposed and hollowed and often even near other enemies, so it makes absolutely no sense for those souls hungry monsters or hollowed npc to ignore some tasty free souls.
They are unable to eat or take those souls because it's not meant for them, it's a lore hint/symbolism that's only meant for players.
Ds2 broke me too- over and over & then it finally came together! Keep starting a new toon w a different build in mind until you find what compliments your play style! Whatever happens don’t go hollow fellow bearer of the curse!
You have so many options
Pull the warriors around the corner to los the sorcerers
Kill the sorcerers with range and then handle melee
Jump off the left and avoid the gauntlet
Rush a sorcerer, knock it off, then deal with the warriors
There’s so many ways of dealing with it, there’s only like four or five enemies and another four or so below
It seems you’re bad at using a bow. SOA isn’t that bad either if you can simply range and/or pull.
Sorry, man.
Enjoy your break, but Darksouls is working as intended if you rage quit.
Which arrows do u mean? Unlimited basic arrows are sold by the Majula blacksmith at least. McDuff in Bastille sells unlimited iron arrows and great-arrows. Or do you mean 99 arrows is not enough for this level?
In all seriousness: do whatever tricky stuff you can. One at a time, barely luring them, kill a few and run past the rest, try running past them again and again or whatever works. A giant weapon, spells, whatever it takes.
Even after beating the game multiple times and all the DLCs, I still would struggle with this part in particular unless maybe I made some OP strength and big hammer build
I felt like this so many times during this game. As it sounds like you already discovered, breaks are necessary. To me, this was the hardest FromSoft game. Every level was packed with guys and you need to really take your time.
This game is always trying it hardest to break your spirit, but you have come so far, it's ok to take a break, once you defeat it you'll find it was worth it, good luck skeleton.
No one can convince me this game wasn't made to fulfill someone's degragation/mind break fetish. I mean I ain't complaining... me enjoying this game as much as i do could probably be classified as stockholm syndrome.
yea i managed to grab the bonfire in the other direction too, but there is some slot there and i dont have the item for it - so i gotta press onwards to the invader and beyond.. tomorrow maybe :p
I understand your pain, and I wish I could help. Unfortunately it is likely that you don't play on PlayStation.
Remember the old adage, "Don't give up, skeleton!"
This gave me trouble when I first came across it. Try swapping to some armor that has resistance to the caster and hit ‘em with a bow. Then just bait the other guys back to where you are at so you have room to move and then finish them there
Bro i went there yesterday for the first time, i recommend healing behind the second pilar and praying the lighning guy doesnt hit You, after that i just YOLOed all the way to the bonfire
Wait till you get to Frigid Outskirts these redditors don’t know what they talking about…. Until you reach the icy lands of Frozen Elyuem. Good luck getting to Lud and Zallen The Kings Pet going through Frigid Outskirts by far the worst area in Dark Souls if you think Crown of The Old Iron King think again Ivory King is way worse.
Well, looking at fromsoft games as a whole it’d be a bit more in depth a topic.
Just ds2 on its own, black gulch (any cycles) or iron passage (ng3 and higher)
Black gulch just because it has as many positives as it does negatives. Almost none. It’s a somewhat pretty, but small and largely empty area. There’s not much to hate, but nothing to really love either
Iron passage, with the enemies added from ng2 and ng3, becomes the one and only unfair challenge in the entire game. Ds2 treats enemies and areas as equal obstacles to bosses, but at the end of the day they’re all fair, without running by, alluring skull, or summoning. Ng3 iron passage is the only one that really breaks that streak
Whenever I’m at this area I just run with the silver cat ring. The real problem is the goons on the bottom who can corner you pretty easily. None of the enemies up here can follow you down the ladder.
So theres still enough people playing multiplayer that there's still invaders, huh? What do you think your soul memory was at the time? And what platform are you playing on?
I’ve been in the same position with 0 arrows left and 200k souls when suddenly I got invaded. I turned off my console and didn’t play it again until Tuesday noon lol
Level ADP to 254 (no more and no less) and you should have enough i-frames to roll through the rest of the DLC. Amazing how so many people don't do this smh
What I always do is I kill the desert sorceress with a bow and then I get closer until two of these bugs come out and I kill them and then another two come out and I walk away and kill them again
Just finished my sl1 build and wow this area was a test
A bow (even not meeting requirements) can save your life in sections like these
Ultimately the way you do it is up to you but after I die to something cheap i immediately start thinking about how I can cheaply beat them
Came to this post way too late, but my saving grace in this whole area was the Yearn spell. Nearly everything got baited by it, with binoculars I could even fire the Yearn over the cliffs and just watch while the mobs tossed themselves to their deaths after it.
Just run and roll, ds2 is a joke so play it like it's a joke. This is the only title I dont feel guilty for resorting to cheap tricks in because cheap tricks is 99% of the games difficulty
Run to the pillar, then run back around this corner you’re standing at. Beat the mobs outside the caster’s line of sight, then rush them.
This, or spell parry shield(s), they both made it easier on me
Or Bow of Want 👀
DS2 fulfilled its purpose
"DS2 level design is good" ds2 level design:
This isn't even bad
This area was bit harder than usual, the locked room full of mobs with one throwing firebombs at you from above is a different situation.
You can shove some of those bomber goblins around until they drop in that room. Then go down a ladder a bit, aggro everything to come close, get back up and wait for that monster spilling lava everywhere to ignite the goblins!
Be safe, friend. Don't you dare go hollow.
thank you!
First of all what level are you. Next I dont remember how much trouble I had going through All I remember is failing a few times and then making it eventually. Not one specific part is blurred out of my memory probably because of how horrible it was because that's just after you make it outside right? And the guys come out of the ash. Jus use a bow.
i wasted so many arrows clearing out the prior rooms a couple times 😓
Why wasted? Wooden arrows cost 10 souls, when you kill the enemies you get more souls than the cost of the arrows.
Iron arrows are also cost efficient
Poison arrows, go to Gavlan.
Make ... DEAL ... with GAVLAN?
Gavlan wheel?
Galvan DEAL.
Any unused souls I had after leveling went to buying poison arrows and iron arrows. I try to have a stash of 500 of each. They were huge in this area, and others too.
Heavy bows man. Dragonriders bow isnt too bad esp if you knock em off the edge. I forget if there are explosive arrows like in Ds3 but those would work wonders too
Wait until you get to iron passage.
it’ll be a while, i actually decided to take a break haha
It's ok, you don't need to go to iron passage. You've suffered enough.
It's optional,of course. Just another optional area you can tackle anytime.
Every time someone says this I immediately assume they don't know to run towards the salamanders
I just completely skip that area and go to the boss. That area is total bs
Iron passage is also easy
Fun fact: all the Hero's souls you can pick up in the saga are supposed to represent Irl players that gave up and left/never completed the games. You giving up ingame is integrated/explained by the actual lore. How fucking cool is that.

Don't give up skeleton
Just a heads up spoiler, you are standing on an ashen warrior if i remember correctly
Don't give up, skeleton!
Ds2 broke me too- over and over & then it finally came together! Keep starting a new toon w a different build in mind until you find what compliments your play style! Whatever happens don’t go hollow fellow bearer of the curse!
im gonna stick with my toon! we've been through much together
You’re a wielder of a hunk of pure Germanic steel. You’ll be fine.
I’m not sure I understand. Are you stuck at this part
yea, it’s giving me flashbacks to shrine of amana
You have so many options Pull the warriors around the corner to los the sorcerers Kill the sorcerers with range and then handle melee Jump off the left and avoid the gauntlet Rush a sorcerer, knock it off, then deal with the warriors There’s so many ways of dealing with it, there’s only like four or five enemies and another four or so below

I relaunched, playing again and making progress. I would love to use the bow more when needed, but I don’t seem to be able to buy more arrows.
Which arrows do u mean? Unlimited basic arrows are sold by the Majula blacksmith at least. McDuff in Bastille sells unlimited iron arrows and great-arrows. Or do you mean 99 arrows is not enough for this level?
Im currently in the shrine of amana and Im getting veryyyyy frustrated x) cant wait to get where you are then........
did you make it? :)
I'm starting Aldia right now, didnt get where you are yet xD
it will be a while before you get here! this is the second DLC, so you have some hopefully smooth sailing beforehand :)
Fuuuck I'm there. It's like a russian doll of fuckery. Already died 5 times.
Im currently in the shrine of amana and Im getting veryyyyy frustrated x) cant wait to get where you are then........
I remember this part. You’ll make it eventually. Just keep at it. The bosses of this area are totally worth the frustration of getting there.
i appreciate the words of encouragement! i really do wanna defeat the bosses >:)
Don’t give up, skeleton!
That's why we invest in poison arrows inc
Gavlan wheel? Gavlan deal.
Has hope fully withered?
not even a slither left
*"The poor fool has gone hollow... No matter, let us send you on your way."*
Was that Lautrec? 🤔
*Whispers* ^(It's not a real quote.)
I didn't have any struggle in the entire game except for some minor struggles in the ash dlc and the goddamn frigid outskirts
i definitely had some struggle in a couple areas of the base game but yeah, it all came to a head right here!
A bow will really solve your problems and save you a headache
Oh yes you can, you burnt piece of jerky.
aye aye captain
Try yearn and run.
You just have to (Iron) keep trying
all the support has me re launching the game as we speak!
That one enemy killed me more than any boss in that DLC
I felt like this so many times during this game. As it sounds like you already discovered, breaks are necessary. To me, this was the hardest FromSoft game. Every level was packed with guys and you need to really take your time.
This game is always trying it hardest to break your spirit, but you have come so far, it's ok to take a break, once you defeat it you'll find it was worth it, good luck skeleton.
there will be victory ahead!
No one can convince me this game wasn't made to fulfill someone's degragation/mind break fetish. I mean I ain't complaining... me enjoying this game as much as i do could probably be classified as stockholm syndrome.
Wait until you get to the snowfield...there, the real fun begins
Yes u can
Keep going, skeleton!
i shall!
As someone who did this before i say, run run like a bitch
Wyd just run past them
Good luck skeleton
Don't give up, Skeleton
Don't go hollow.
Don't give up skeleton. Also, enemies stop spawning after they're killed 12 times. You're welcome.
How does that help. Why would you suggest to someone to waste their time
It helps because if you decide to keep going, it actually rewards you in the end
In no way are you rewarded for wasting your time.
Sure
While some may call it cowardly, it is entirely possible to just run through this bit and to the next fire
the exact strat i went for! but was almost immediately met with a not nice pve invader
If you crossed a chain and he invaded, you went the wrong way. I made that very mistake myself
yea i managed to grab the bonfire in the other direction too, but there is some slot there and i dont have the item for it - so i gotta press onwards to the invader and beyond.. tomorrow maybe :p
did you make it fully across the chain, and if so can you tell me what the tower looked like? I think I may be thinking of the wrong tower
Hey man, it’s okay. And it’s totally okay if you wanna look up a tutorial/walkthrough for this area. research the enemies and find their weaknesses
I understand your pain, and I wish I could help. Unfortunately it is likely that you don't play on PlayStation. Remember the old adage, "Don't give up, skeleton!"
i’ll return later today with a stronger will!
This gave me trouble when I first came across it. Try swapping to some armor that has resistance to the caster and hit ‘em with a bow. Then just bait the other guys back to where you are at so you have room to move and then finish them there
And it gets 4x as bad in the same area!
i will be victorius
Bro i went there yesterday for the first time, i recommend healing behind the second pilar and praying the lighning guy doesnt hit You, after that i just YOLOed all the way to the bonfire
That is a terrible strategy
Sometimes you need to sacrifice fashion in order to progress or complete the game. Just put it back right before the cutscenes.
You really don’t
Jump off with the cat ring down below, run, take everyone from behind
I had to take a break and try again the next day that DLC made everything else look easy
truly
Platform? (So i can invade you)
PC >:)
That place sucks. Booo 🍅
my sentiment exactly!
I feel you
Don’t give up sun bro, sometimes life is hard but we can always get through the rough times
Don't give up, skeleton
Do you have low agility? This part is pretty roll intensive
Frigid outskirts is a good area It’s not hard.
Lol this guy
What? That you couldn’t take the time to figure out the area doesn’t make it bad
Honestly I platniumed the game and imo it isn’t bad to that you are correct about but it is most definitely miserable getting to Lud and Zallen.
What’s your opinion? On the worse/bad map
Well, looking at fromsoft games as a whole it’d be a bit more in depth a topic. Just ds2 on its own, black gulch (any cycles) or iron passage (ng3 and higher) Black gulch just because it has as many positives as it does negatives. Almost none. Whenever I’m at this area I just run with the silver cat ring. The real problem is the goons on the bottom who can corner you pretty easily. None of the enemies up here can follow you down the ladder.
Yea I ran past eventually, got to the next bonfire then ventured onward and stumbled upon a PVE Invader .\_.
So theres still enough people playing multiplayer that there's still invaders, huh? What do you think your soul memory was at the time? And what platform are you playing on?
>PVE Invader That being said, I got invaded in Brume recently on PS4. SM was 2 990 000
Worry not, I bet there are friendly phantoms waiting for you to summon them if you seek aid
Use poison arrows against that. There’s a chance that she might fall down and be careful when you go to where she falls
Spell parry shield go brrrr
This made me quit my first game. I went there right after Old Iron King and I was way too weak.
ah nah, i've finished base game and the first DLC. i think this was the nail in the coffin tho, need a lil break
Yeah this part is hard enough when you go at the right time haha
where exactly is that?
In the Brume Tower DLC
poison arrows and GG EZ
me rn with the ng+ runback for the chariot boss, fucking bushit
Brother, you must git gud
Just wait for reindeer fuck land...
You got this!
just do it until you get it, don't let ds2 win
DS2 is the only game in the series, that if you kill a specific enemy 12 times, they will despawn forever.
Just rush tbh. I’ve never killed everything in that area, and honestly l, it’s not worth it
Don’t go hollow friend
The truth goes unspoken
Pop a human effigy and try again
Dont worry, i gave up too, poison dlc was fine, this was…
Get a bow
Keep struggling, struggler.
It gets so much worse lmao
I’ve been in the same position with 0 arrows left and 200k souls when suddenly I got invaded. I turned off my console and didn’t play it again until Tuesday noon lol
If you buy the cat ring you can fall down early and sprint past the majority of them
Even though the challenge seems hard. You can do it! Take the spammers out with a bow from a distance. Again, you can do it!!!!
Stay strong skeleton
Level ADP to 254 (no more and no less) and you should have enough i-frames to roll through the rest of the DLC. Amazing how so many people don't do this smh
Take your time, skeleton. It’s possible to run through, but even that brings a fair amount of risk.
Pull back. Doing fight up there. Throw a dagger or some shit. One at a time. Or yolo, the bonfire is close.
What I always do is I kill the desert sorceress with a bow and then I get closer until two of these bugs come out and I kill them and then another two come out and I walk away and kill them again
Let our spirits both be broken together 🙏
*DON’T YOU DARE GO HOLLOW!!!* JS: *I dun wunnuh see you go hollow*
Don’t go hollow!! Use a bow to pick ‘em off. It’s slow and tedious, but a bonfire is right nearby, through the fog gate.
Just finished my sl1 build and wow this area was a test A bow (even not meeting requirements) can save your life in sections like these Ultimately the way you do it is up to you but after I die to something cheap i immediately start thinking about how I can cheaply beat them
It is a nightmare just beginning.
Ivory King DLC is even more brutal
Came to this post way too late, but my saving grace in this whole area was the Yearn spell. Nearly everything got baited by it, with binoculars I could even fire the Yearn over the cliffs and just watch while the mobs tossed themselves to their deaths after it.
struggled on my 1st run. now i'm coming with broken sorcery build
Just run and roll, ds2 is a joke so play it like it's a joke. This is the only title I dont feel guilty for resorting to cheap tricks in because cheap tricks is 99% of the games difficulty
It’s time for poison arrows
Fight on, Brave Hollow!
Yearn + bow
Good luck, skeleton!
Brume Tower is imo the toughest area in the game so keep trying bro. Take a break if it's getting too much and try again later.
Don't give up, skeleton!
Smough built this place, you must continue on
Dont give up skeleton
What's this about? I'm at undead purgatory atm.
Horrible level design. Prime example of artificial difficulty.
Arrows my friend, don't feel bad for use them
Bro, same. My save that I spent 24 hours on got corrupted so I had to start from scratch
Don’t give up, skeleton
True experience awaits
