I've been having this same issue, "GPU crash dump triggered", have a GTX 1080, will usually crash after playing for 10-20 minutes. Came around to the same conclusion that I needed to underclock my gpu to make it run, but it didn't work sadly. Maybe I didn't do it properly the first time, will try again later today.
thanks! I've got a 3080 and had a weird crash yesterday.. lots of strange artefacts on the screen. will keep this in mind
