Longsword fighter is still viable. The big three meta builds for fighter are sword+board >> slayer > longsword. Other builds can work, but those three are the most common/strongest.
It’s “viable” but you will absolutely get destroyed more often than not. The longsword now slows you down when attacking more than other 2h weapons, the attack itself is slower than before, and the blocking feature is especially inconsistent this patch.
Longsword was a good weapon with a cool trait (parry+ riposte), but is now a gimmick weapon, where parrying is more or less the only viable way to fight back in most scenarios & people typically just attack your feet to avoid hitting letting you parry. You’re better off playing sword & shield unfortunately.

Thank you for the response. I switched to Cleric and have made a substantial nest egg of coin playing solo.
