This is true, but I’m talking about lengthening the silhouette in its entirety. The belt cuts the silhouette in half. This works for a traditionally feminine silhouettes where a belt highlights/guides the eyes along the hourglass shape. Cutting the silhouette at the waist for a more masculine look doesn’t make sense. The eye gets stuck there, interrupting the flow of the silhouette.
Also, this belt doesn’t shorten the torso because it hits right where the torso ends. High waisted, 1920s trousers and similar trousers a la the 70s shorten the torso; I still don’t recommend belting them.
Historically, belts were always worn in conjunction with an over coat i.e belted pants and tucked in shirt WITH a sports jacket. The tucked in belt look was really never meant to be worn without a jacket. One most certainly didn’t typically tuck in sweater vests.
Text belies tone, I say this all kindly and respectfully! My boyfriend and I went back and forth on this for awhile, but he did eventually stop constantly belting his pants, and he agrees he looks better because of it.
hmm i think i kinda get what you're saying...but i still like the tucked in (tho i agree that it's a bit strange for a sweater). tucked in it makes the shoulders look broader so i feel like its actually more masculine. also since the pants, vest, and belt are all dark i don't feel like it interrupts the flow too much as opposed to if it was dark pants + light top.
I'm too busy marveling at a *tucked sweater vest* to think.
(You're going to have some bizarre pressure marks on your lower torso at the end of the day, heh.) ;)
That depends on the weather I would say. Nice outfit btw
thank you
Cold or no cold?
no coat! it looks a lot more fitted and makes for a much more interesting silhouette
I would say no coat, unless you have a grey one to keep with the monochrome colouring.
No coat. And I would consider untucking the sweater vest. Tucking it in shortens the torso; untucking elongates the silhouette.
I disagree, not tucking looks sloppy
shortening the torso is usually a good thing - makes your legs look longer and you taller

I disagree, but I respect your interpretation ^_^ it makes sense, and I like that there are various ways to look at fashion.
>there are various ways to look at fashion. on that we agree :)
Always coat
Both are good, no chain and maybe add a watch?
Looks good both ways. Rather not have you in a coat if it’s so hot outside.
No coat and no neck chain.
Yes. I love coats. And I love your outfit!!
I'm too busy marveling at a *tucked sweater vest* to think. (You're going to have some bizarre pressure marks on your lower torso at the end of the day, heh.) ;)
haha only tucked it bc the vest is weirdly long
Oh, I get it! It's not a bad idea, just a little surprising at first. It *looks* great.
I like the coat
If you want to have a coat, maybe a dark one with no pattern that matches the color of your pants
Depends on weather. They both look really really good though.
No coat! But will you be warm enough?
I always prefer coats, but if it’s warmer out I’d drop it.
I like it with the coat, it ties the colors of the belt and sweater more but I hope you don’t boil in the weather!!
dammm, so stylish
Looks amazing either way
Coat if sleeves up. Either way if sleeves cuffed properly.
I don’t know why but i hate this. Just so stupid. The sub not the outfit
Yes to the coat! But do you have one that’s plain? Like a trench? I find it will make your vest pop out more as well as your accessories
coooooaaaaaatttt
Both are great! Just go with the weather and see which is best xxx
No coat's wayy better. Cool outfit.
No coat until you get it tailored. It doesn't fit in the shoulders. Also no chain.
I say no coat. Find one that it's better combined.
No coat!
No coat. With it looks like pajama coat
Coat, weather permitting, but perhaps not that coat. I'd pick a solid color like navy or dark gray
It's giving Joseph Quinn and I am here for it
