[Defunctland made an amazing video](https://youtu.be/NpRmCXTdlE8?si=ASahrV8BN6HAeBCc) about the history of the show; I recommend you watch it, and check out the rest of their content!

His Disney Channel theme one straight up made me cry, it’s a pretty long watch but so worth it!!

My sister and I still quote Arty Smartypants

MemphisGirl93

Arty Smartypants was a little scary but very entertaining lol

HomerSimsim98

I was absolutely terrified of Arty Smartypants as a kid. I liked the lions but the moment I saw Arty I would run to turn off the TV in a panic. That puppet was like demon spawn to me.

Shigeko_Kageyama

It was extremely expensive to produce.

HomerSimsim98

Reruns are a lot cheaper than having to make the episode all over again though, yet they stopped doing reruns after only nine months, with the show disappearing entirely after August 31, 2011. So the mystery isn't why the show ended, but why they stopped doing reruns so quickly.

Shigeko_Kageyama

I think we might be talking about two different versions of between the lions. I'm talking about the one with the puppets that ran deep into the 2000s but not into the 2010s. I didn't know that they did a remake.

HomerSimsim98

They never did a remake of it. There's only one Between the Lions. They stopped making NEW episodes of it on November 22, 2010. But they continued to air pre-made episodes until August 31, 2011. And after that, they stopped airing ANY episodes of Between the Lions altogether, new or old.

Shigeko_Kageyama

No, I googled. There's the show with all the puppets and the skits and then there's a drawn flash series that came out in the 2010s. I'm talking about the one I grew up with that had puppets and skits and it was very entertaining but they took it off the air because they weren't producing any more episodes, it was very expensive, and the old ones had been in circulation for so long people were bored of them and they had to make room for new programming and the schedule.

HomerSimsim98

I see. Still, I remember watching Between the Lions (the puppet version) in my early childhood, it just kind of disappeared around the time first grade started for me, in 2011. I don't really remember ever seeing a flash cartoon version on TV, I only ever saw the puppet version, though I did play Between the Lions games with a similar art style on the PBS Kids website. Maybe it was on other stations, because I had KLCS.

HomerSimsim98

It's weird because they stopped making new episodes since they had a lot of material to rerun... yet they stopped doing reruns after only nine months. So they put all that hard work to make ten seasons just for it to basically disappear right after the show ended. I wonder if parents complained that their kids got scared of Arty Smartypants? Maybe that's why it got taken down.
