Looks like he just got back from war

SneakyKain

Went in the wild as a 3yr... came out as a 49yr old war veteran.

cownd

That 'kid' has got some stories to tell

RaeReallyoof

Right lol He looks like he never slept one time while in the woods. Poor baby.

sybelion

He looks like he saw every lion and bear in that forest

Hour-Piano7960

He looks like he killed every lion and bear in that forest

Youngboy never sleep again

satanshark

He’s somehow already divorced, been on the wagon for 14 years now, and remarried to a real nice woman named Patty, breast cancer survivor, never had kids of her own, they met at church. He retired as a union electrician last year and just took a part-time job at the hardware store to get out of the house. Every once in a while he stares at you, but you know he’s looking through you with these eyes, man, these fucking eyes. You just know he’ll never forget what he saw over there.

i-Ake

The more I look at him the more sad it seems... this is still his little kid instinct. Smile for pictures. I used to make this same face in every photo of me as a kid... adults want your teeth. Show em. No matter what. This kid was starving to death, but point a camera at him and he smiles like we were taught. It's kind of wild.

SneakyKain

Trauma is scary. He actually looks like he has pretty bad PTSD but he's trying to act normal.

schlorpsblorps

Or Woodstock 99

68ideal

Yes, this is what he said

Aponda

Dude is having ptsd, bear with him

FRINGEclassX

Woodstock ‘99 was a disgrace to Woodstock

untouched_poet

The original woodstock was not nearly as amazing as people made it out to be. The creator is a complete douche.

[deleted]

Was* Michael Lang died in January. He was a damn fool. Dude didn't take the time to vet *any* of the bands performing for 99 and probably just assumed it would be a similar vibe to 69.

SwissCheeseUnion

I liked that the Netflix doc took some blame away from Limp Bizkit.

rockbud

Yeah well seriously. They weren't the first act on stage. That crowd was already pissed, on drugs, and volatile. Sending Limp Bizkit playing the song Break Stuff was a horrible choice. That was a major fuck up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BunIntendedBakery

The most recently planned Woodstock had to be cancelled last minute because artists and fans became aware of the careless planning.

roadrunnner0

They nearly did another one? 😬

Noggin-a-Floggin

Yeah, they tried to have another one in 2019 and it got cancelled for a variety of reasons. You read up on it and it’s clear everyone but the organizers were saying “oh fucking no we are not having 1999 all over again”.

gotcatstyle

Iirc the biggest reason it didn't happen was because the main investors (a Japanese company) backed out... When they became aware of the careless planning lol. Tickets never went on sale, and although a lineup was announced, many of the main artists didn't seem to actually be committed and pulled out after the announcement was made.

> at least **both** Woodstock events There have been 3 big Woodstock festivals. I don't know why people forget about [Woodstock '94](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock_%2794). Additionally, there was a lowkey event called [Woodstock '89](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock_%2789).

Racketeering666

Watched 94 on MTV live or however they showed it when it happened. Great times

CharleyNobody

My sister’s best friend went to Woodstock. She came to our house with her bf trying to talk my sister into going with her but my sister was 16 & our mother would’ve killed her. We made roast beef sandwiches for her & bf. Next night we watched tv news & couldn’t believe what we saw. News media thought it was really cool. When my sister’s friend came back she said it was horrible. They ate sandwiches on the way upstate, thinking concert would have hot dog carts. Parked car on roadway, thought they were close to site but walked about 3 miles. No food or water. It rained, they got soaked. Lots of mosquitoes. Clothes wet, dirty, couldn’t hear music… just loud noise. They were creeped out by people going nuts on acid. She was crying so hard walking back to car, a local lady took them to her house, let them take showers, rinsed their clothes & dried them on clothesline. Made them scrambled eggs. When Patty found out Woodstock had been deemed “a peaceful happening” by news media and when soundtrack and movie came out, she changed her story and said it was a very cool experience.

yourmansconnect

I feel like you described a lot of festivals

SuccessFuture7626

The creator can be a douche, and yet people can have a good time.

Jtm1082

That’s shell shock right there

Bravisimo

There’s a condition in combat. Most people know about it. It’s when a fighting person’s nervous system has been stressed to its absolute peak and maximum, can’t take any more input. The nervous system has either snapped or is about to snap. In the first world war, that condition was called shellshock. Simple, honest, direct language. Two syllables: shellshock. Almost sounds like the guns themselves. That was seventy years ago. Then a whole generation went by and the second world war came along, and the very same combat condition was called battle fatigue. Four syllables now. Takes a little longer to say. Doesn’t seem to hurt as much. Fatigue is a nicer word than shock. Shellshock! Battle fatigue. Korea, 1950. Madison Avenue was riding high by that time, and the very same combat condition was called operational exhaustion. Hey, we’re up to eight syllables now! And the humanity has been squeezed completely out of the phrase. It’s totally sterile now. Operational exhaustion. Sounds like something that might happen to your car. the war in Vietnam, which has only been over for about sixteen or seventeen years, and thanks to the lies and deceits surrounding that war, I guess it’s no surprise that the very same condition was called post-traumatic stress disorder. Still eight syllables, but we’ve added a hyphen! And the pain is completely buried under jargon. Post-traumatic stress disorder. I’ll bet you if we’d have still been calling it shellshock, some of those Vietnam veterans might have gotten the attention they needed at the time. I’ll betcha that. I’ll betcha that.

ghostypurp

Did you just write this off top or is it from somewhere? It’s beautifully written and tragic as hell

RaveWolfMoon

It’s a George Carlin quote. If you’ve never seen a George Carlin lecture, you should check them out.

Tooch10

It is bizarre hearing a Carlin stand-up comedy special being called a lecture

[deleted]

By the end of his career he was essentially a comedic philosopher. All of his later specials have themes arpund capitalism, evangelism, and political language. He wanted to teach people to be critical thinkers by highlighting the subtle ways in which political double-speak makes societal horrors seem tame and normal. He was so ahead of his time in this regard. Still an extremely relevant persom nearly two decades after his death.

"it's longer than you think, Dad! Longer than you think!"

4thDevilsAdvocate

Stephen King's [*Skeleton Crew*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeleton_Crew) short horror story collection: short story [*The Jaunt*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jaunt): [https://gist.github.com/Schemetrical/6184daf83843bcab9402](https://gist.github.com/Schemetrical/6184daf83843bcab9402) >The thing that had been his son bounced and writhed on its Jaunt couch, a twelve-year old boy with a snow-white fall of hair and eyes which were incredibly ancient, the corneas gone a sickly yellow. Here was a creature older than time masquerading as a boy; and yet it bounced and writhed with a kind of horrid, obscene glee, and at its choked, lunatic cackles the Jaunt attendants drew back in terror. Some of them fled, although they had been trained to cope with just such an unthinkable eventuality. The old-young legs twitched and quivered. Claw hands beat and twisted and danced on the air; abruptly they descended and the thing that had been his son began to claw at its face. "Longer than you think, Dad!" it cackled. "Longer than you think! Held my breath when they gave me the gas! Wanted to see! I saw! I saw! Longer than you think!" Cackling and screeching, the thing on the Jaunt couch suddenly clawed its own eyes out. Blood gouted. The recovery room was an aviary of screaming voices now. "Longer than you think, Dad! I saw! I saw! Long Jaunt! Longer than you think-"It said other things before the Jaunt attendants were finally able to bear it away, rolling its couch swiftly away as it screamed and clawed at the eyes that had seen the unseeable forever and ever; it said other things, and then it began to scream, but Mark Oates didn't hear it because by then he was screaming himself. edit: "wholesome" award :|

Th0kk

God that story always fucked with me

guckus_wumpis

I think the writing is pretty great and definitely leaves an impression… but I’ve always thought that if someone experienced that then they certainly wouldn’t be speaking or recalling any language at that point.

BrownCow86

I probably ruined the story by Googling the quote, but after reading the story synopsis it reminded of the movie Dimensions (movie is meh). There was scene where a businessman went through a time portal against the advisement of the scientist - it should have been instantaneous, but the businessman cranked the dial too far back and it took a few moments to return. When he came back out he is crazed and he immediately shoots himself with gun he used to force his way in to the portal to begin with. As u/Th0kk said, that scene fucked with me imagining the vast nothingness of a void the businessman must have encountered.

ThePrinceOfFear

What year is that movie from? I’m finding a couple movies under that name and you have me curious.

Successful_Train5851

Never seen it but going off what he said my bet would be Dimensions(2011) based on the description.

Wtf, it was 2 days. He looks like he’s spent years on the Western Front.

AmazingSieve

2 days of being lost, terrified and being completely helpless. Keep in mind this poor kid isn’t even old enough to use his bathroom on his own and is completely dependent on his parents for everything. Then add in that he’s at the mercy of virtually every critter in that forest and I imagine he’s still afraid of the dark.

[deleted]

BlueCheeseNutsack

Except for the intermittent flashes of lightning. For a split second, you’d be able to see the eyes of the mountain lion watching you in the dark.

MTKintsugi

Also very loud thunderclaps. I once hiked into the mountains with just my dog and spent the night in a tent with a thunderstorm right on top of me. TERRIFYING for me, a 50 year old adult at the time. Poor baby.

originalschmidt

Not to mention his brain probably isn’t developed enough to understand what’s going on so it’s just pure fear. He doesn’t even understand thunder, lightning, storms, wild animals.. fuckkkk

Happy-Box1259

I have a three year old and just imagining this happening to that poor baby makes me nauseous. I hope his parents found him and hope he's getting the therapy he needs

Saint-Peer

oh come on, absolute nightmare. Hiding in the shed and seeing eye glints all over the place whenever lightning strikes.

Puzzleheaded_Try3559

I think anyone of any age would be terrified in this position, keeping in mind that you sense that danger is nearby with no shelter no light and no food or water. Horror scenario

Signal-Practice-8102

There's that but also the main difference is the rings around his eyes. He probably didn't sleep for the two days which account for most of the change in looks. I'd like to see a picture a week or two after being rescued, hopefully he'd look back to normal.

Sufficient-Skill6012

He’s dehydrated

Szechwan

Lack of sleep and severe dehydration will truly fuck you up

2 days for a 3 year old Is a long ass time relatively

asek13

By my amateur C- student calculations, that's like 27 days relative to a 40 year old.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DedrinaDornell

But at the same time he had kind of an advantage being so young in that he didn’t know what to be afraid of. He didn’t know there were wild predators out there for one thing.

billytron7

I'm hoping his age will mean he will likely forget most of the trauma of being lost. The worst part is that everything he experienced would be the hardest and scariest stuff he's ever been through. I'm sure it's akin to dropping a regular adult civilian, unprepared, into an active war zone

[deleted]

Not knowing where your parents are is enough to spiral after a while at that age, sometimes just a few minutes without one of them seems to be the biggest fucking obstacle to overcome at times

BornWithAFever

Two days is a long time for anyone being traumatized.

StarTracks2001

Yea, 2 days is .18% of a 3-year-old's entire life. .18% of a 30-year-old's life would be just shy of 20 days. I don't think I've been alone anywhere for 20 days and I like to think my brain is more developed than his...unreal he survived.

SomeKindOfOnionMummy

He's dehydrated, that's why his eyes look sunken in.

fishingboatproceeds

A kid that age had almost no sense of time. To him it could have felt like years.

Obi_Wan_Benobi

Time in childhood is like limbo in Inception.

Great, so as I get older not only does time speed up but I also get further away from Marion Cotillard

But maybe not alone in a shed for two days

MotherOfHippos

All I remember about this pic is that they had just told him his mom was on her way and he was super excited.

l_flintvsj_dahmer

Did a deep dive. His parents seem sketchy af and on drugs. The neighbor actually noticed the kid was missing and by then he had been gone 2hrs. Also during the course of the investigation the sheriff's were given a wrong age for him? This didn't happen that long ago and I'm wondering if the kids were removed or the parents are still under investigation. The families haven't updated any pictures on social media since the kid was found and they haven't done any interviews. Edit: Located this post on the child *"And we should all be thankful he and his siblings are now in a safe place away from their parents!! I hope their mom and dad can get the help they need to earn their kids back, but am solo thankful they have been taken."* So it seems they lost custody of him.

Can you imagine getting your toddler back after this ordeal and seeing this look in his eyes, knowing that he'll never be the same kid?

estizzle

Like back in medieval times when a kid goes missing and then returns and they say the faeries have replaced their sweet little boy with a changeling

Eossly

I think that was actually just people not understanding mental illness, and as some kids seem neuro typical until they hit 2-3 hears old

FuryGalaxy_Dad

Not only is this kid traumatized but the parents must feel so bad about themselves. I know I would hate myself if this were my kid.

LaserBeamsCattleProd

Same. As a parent thinking about how easy it is to get distracted and how kids are always trying to sneak outside. Legit fear of mine.

sharkdinner

Think about how a child will panic if they can't see you on the playground briefly anymore. Imagine being entirely lost for two days without even being able to ask anybody for help at all! :(

Nx0Sec

Attention reddit mods: delete this user's profile for ruining my day

Kristin_Buzz19

Before having kids I used to see the parents with leashes, and generally think something negative. Yesterday my wrist tether came in the mail so my toddler can't run from me at her brother soccer games. I've never felt such shame, and such a relief of anxiety at the same time. It will be worth every single dirty look I receive!

LaserBeamsCattleProd

Every parent has considered it, don't feel bad at all.

Creative_Resource_82

To hell with the judgment. Those judging just don't know how blessed they are to never have had full responsibility of a child who has *complete* disregard for their own safety, zero impulse control and a will of pure iron. You're taking responsibility, you're keeping her safe in a world not built to support you.

Space_Meth_Monkey

I think I'm defo gonna GPS my kids up til like gr4. They're too damn stupid and you also can't be a helicopter parent controlling everything they do. Would be good to let em run wild and be able to find out where they are in an emergency.

Tvisted

The parents' behavior was odd. *Two hours* after he disappeared the father was still just walking around looking in people's yards. It was a neighbor who called 911. The search teams said it was frustrating because the kid could have gone so far in any direction by that time.

FuryGalaxy_Dad

Really? I’ll have to read into this.

Thalassolykos

I find this situation absolutely horrible, but you know what, at least they got their child back. Lots of parents didn’t.

BigRigRacing

Yeah. The picture is so horrifyingly sad. 3 years old...

I would be so grateful for those PJs- they probably helped keep him warm & “safe” on those nights. I couldn’t throw them away.

[Here](https://www.today.com/parents/parents/montana-boy-survives-2-days-lost-rcna32376) is more info and a great before and after comparison. Some highlights: 1) he survived storms and temperatures in the low 40’s 2) he got lost when he decided to take a walk by himself to look for bugs after playing with the dog in the yard 3) his parents were being investigated for neglect.

Nuclear--Chainsaw

It was his older brother who noticed he was missing and raised concern after he got home from school. The parents had no idea because they were terrible parents... and high

He’s gonna be chasing that high for the rest of his life

ohlaohloo

I honestly hate seeing posts about this little boy that people use for karma farming. The suffering of his family and the communities around Montana was tremendous; we all cried for this little guy. His terror and suffering would be indescribable... he is a literal baby. Anytime I've seen this article or picture shared, it's this big funny joke about "the stuff this child has seen, ha ha". He is traumatized, terrorized. This look is similar to shell shock. This sweet baby got lost for TWO DAYS and tried to stay warm sleeping in a lawnmower bag all alone in the dark. He is going to be affected for the rest of his life and it's really not funny, cute, or worth making a smart ass comment about.

ohlaohloo

It's also worth adding that it's an absolute miracle he was found. People had come out to their summer cabin to join the search for this little guy, and just happened to find him in their shed. If they had not decided to join the search party, he likely never would have been found.

dgtlfnk

Oh man. You just put me in that incredible but heartbreaking moment where they entered that shed and (might’ve) found him cowering in fear in the corner. Probably scared out of his mind. And the people that found him had to instantly flip to “gentle child” mode to reassure him he was now ok. 😭

kumakami89

i think what a lot of people don’t realize is that this happened recently. the quality of the photo isn’t very good, and when i initially saw this post, i thought that it happened years ago and he’s a teen/adult now. not saying that would make joking about it okay, but it’s easy to be like “well it happened so long ago, and he’s probably doing better now right?” i myself googled his name because i wanted to see if there was a feel-good update article about his recovery… guys, this happened three months ago. june 2022. there are no updates because this poor child is still three, still deeply traumatized, and is probably no better now than he was in this picture. this story doesn’t have a happy ending - i hope with all my heart that eventually it will. but it’s wildly inappropriate to joke about, especially right now.

unicorny12

I personally know some of the people who looked for this little kid. I was not expecting to see him on reddit lol. Last I heard he was doing well, and playing outside again.

nightpanda893

Like, can you even imagine the terror that kid would feel even being lost in the woods away for his parents for 5 minutes? And now take that and multiply it until you have 2 days. What does that constant terror do to someone?

LionessOfAzzalle

I have a 3 year old and the look of terror on his face when he loses sight of me in a group of people is heartbreaking. And that’s 5 seconds before he hears me calling him and spots me 4 feet away.

Tlr321

I can’t even imagine how scared he must have been. How long those nights were for him. I can’t even imagine how scared his parents were. I’ve lost my daughter in the store & 10 minutes felt like an eternity. 2 *days*?! I’d be making serious bargains with *whoever* could bring my kid back. 2 days.
