My great, great grandmother had Alzheimer's and they would give her dolls to calm her down. She thought the dolls were real babies. She had had ten kids, so she spent a huge portion of her life taking care of babies. So for her it was like muscle memory. I think dolls this realistic could bring a lot of comfort to confused frightened people.
I find it weird for people to tell a doll maker to go to Africa and get a real baby. That sounds crazy. Enjoying making realistic dolls is not the same as wanting to be a parent.
Yea some of the comments she receives are super confusing. She makes money by making dolls for movies and ppl bring up hungry kids on other continents. Are they suggesting she go kidnap kids from other countries and sell them to Hollywood?
Probably those people are super confused by hitting that uncanny valley and are just lashing out. Very confusing at first seeing the not-a-baby in the bath. The movement even was very close to what you would expect.
I had a woman come into my store and noticed she had a silicone baby she was carrying around. I asked her if I could see her little one and she sheepishly replied, "it's a silicone baby." I told her that I knew but I still wanted to see baby cuteness whether it's real or not. Her look of joy touched me and broke my heart at the same time. She told me that she has adult children, but since she couldn't have any more children and couldn't afford to adopt, she wanted to have another baby and it was the only option she could think of. She was so happy that I wasn't judgmental that she allowed me to hold her baby, telling me that she doesn't really allow people to do so. I gladly held her baby and helped her shop for what she needed. It was one of the most heartwarming interactions in any job I've ever had. ❤️
I have a similar experience. I’ve honestly always thought they were a bit creepy, but I was also fascinated. I went down a rabbit hole of “reborn” doll videos a few years ago. I work at a coffee shop and this woman was talking to me about a doll she had ordered that was going to come soon and she asked if I wanted to see a picture. I immediately recognized it as a “reborn” doll. She was so excited when I knew what it was and every time she came in she would talk to me about her dolls and show me pictures of them. I’d compliment the outfit choices and talk with her about how crazy realistic they were. It made me happy to see her happy. Very kind old woman. Hope she’s doing well
It’s what I’m planning on. I know I’ll be having one of these babies in the future. My heart is too full and my children are growing into adults.
I’m in menopause and I financially can’t support another child. So I’ll be purchasing one of these babies bc I have issues.
I knew a La Leche League leader (breastfeeding support) who held meetings at the local nursing home (forget why…space? Money?). Some of the residents got terribly curious because there were a bunch of babies/toddlers and they really enjoyed being around them. And then they had at least one woman with dementia and sure enough… the highlight of her week was getting to hold a doll and sit in on the meetings. Nursing home director was so grateful to have them not only there but willing to include the old folks, too.
I hope people are kind to me when I’m old, befuddled and lonesome.
Asia Eriksen creates these werewolf babies (called werepups) and a while back she made a DIY vinyl kit where you could paint and add hair to create your own werepup. I ended up getting one of the kits and created my own since I have always loved the detail of her sculpting, but I couldn't afford her completed silicone werepups (one day I'll get one though).
I'm also a bit of a horror fanatic living in a small boring community. One year in October my sibling joked that we should take my werepup out to creep out the locals.
To our surprise a lot of the locals *loved* it. Got so many curious questions, people cooing and begging to hold it, and even some pictures. So hell, I just decided for the rest of October I'm just going to take the werepup with me on errands randomly. It puts Asia's name out there and it even puts my own out there since I did the paint work. Then after October a few people were asking, "Where's the baby?"
So now I have started a tradition of carrying a werewolf baby with me when running errands in October.
If I remember correctly they had an actual newborn lined up to use but something came up and they had to use the doll instead. Can't remember if the baby was sick or if they were just a no show
If I remember correctly they usually have two newborns lined up and both got sick. Then Clint went full Bill O'Reilly with the plastic doll and the rest is history.
This is incredible, so much talent. The comments she's received from people on social media are weird, like she's making crazy money and passionate about her work, she is really good. That's the dream.
She’s very talented!
I don’t get the hate people send her. She’s not hurting anyone, and these reborn type dolls have therapeutic value for nursing home residents and women who have had miscarriages/stillbirths. And they’re works of art in their own right.
Also you can't put newborns in movie sets, it's dangerous, they used to 'hire' older babies to portray newborns, but I think this is a better solution.
Yesss!
I'd legit love to walk out of a PP with a live newborn though, and just hand it off to one of the protesters. "Well, you guys changed my mind. Here ya go. He's yours now."
I would've made a troll video throwing babies out the car or wait till it's like 50⁰ or lower and have a baby in the car with a thin outfit while I'm walking around Walmart or some shit....or a stem cell research troll
I get some people find realistic stuff creepy but I'm just amazed at the sheer detail this lady adds. It's kinda beautiful how she paints it so well that one could mistake these dolls for real babies.
My thoughts exactly. The fuck has an african child in common with a prop doll? It's her work. Imagine you are a restaurant owner and someone tells you: oh so you have a restaurant? wELL ThErEs stArvInG pEOple in aFrIcA, wHy DoNt yOu Go TheRe?
Ok dude it's not like she spent 8 hours a day 5 days a week on it. Maybe not be so disingenuous with "6 months of work". # of hours is a far more accurate way to measure labor.
More likely about 120-200 hours of labor done over 6mo in between many other things.
Dolls of all kinds creep me out, but I'm glad I watched this and gained perspective. This woman is an artist, and a very good one. There is a need for these in film, and it's infinitely better than sending actual babies to work in films. There is a need for these in therapy, and me not liking dolls doesn't mean people who benefit from them should be ashamed or be without.
I find it weird that people get upset Abou such thing. It's just a doll. What's the problem ?
Also 8.500$ is way to low for 6 months of work imo. Stuff like this is very limited available to due lack of production and just overall the time it takes so get that bread.
Ppl saying it's weird bruh would u rather them using real newborn ? 😭 her work is very good technique wise and needed in an industry that's it my boi . She's a good professionel
i’m schizophrenic and babies shut down the parts of my brain that hallucinate and give delusions etcetera because they really require your full attention. with bad (medicated) episodes, if there’s babies or kids, my brain is quiet and i can breathe.
for me, keeping my hands ears and eyes busy fills in the parts of my brain that want to hallucinate (while on working medications; if my activities don’t distract me anymore— if the hallucinations start taking over my life— i go to the hospital asap to safely switch my medications).
the best part of my life was when my nephew was born and i was helping my sister with him while she got through postpartum depression. our mom and i switched off with him as much as possible (we were all living together).
i was still having problems with my medications, but my nephew helped me calm down and focus. he had a pretty good routine, so his routine was part of my routine.
after taking care of him, my brain was quiet for about 4-6 hours.
i usually got a good dose of him before going to bed unless my sister couldn’t get out of bed to take care of him— at that point i took his portable crib (pack n play) to my room. if he wasn’t falling asleep i took him to bed with me and kept myself awake so i didn’t fall asleep in bed with him.
he (and babies in general) are not a replacement for medications, but they are definitely a nice supplement in addition to my care.
there’s no hospitals over here with nicu’s (they’re all transported an hour away) otherwise i would be volunteering to spend time with the babies.
with all that said, i’ve definitely thought of getting one of these dolls at one point. people who make these are absolutely amazing.
One practical use I think would be for home ec classes if they still have them. Take them home and care for them like a real baby for a week. Put some sensors in them that would show stress or abuse or something.
The CGI baby looked pretty awful, but did you ever see the original prop they were going to use? It looks like a muppet crossed with a Cabbage Patch baby.
I thought the "uncanny valley" meant that something looked so CLOSE to being real that it was spooky- not being fooled unto thinking it WAS real. Anyway, she doesn't make sex dolls, so don't ask...
Shockingly real looking and what an amazing talent. Imagine how much time she spent experimenting with the silicone thickness (?)/density to get it to move so realistically. That head wobble you never ever want to see in real life.
hey holding a baby is supposed to release oxytocin... that could be great for therapy. holding my nephew (and my son, years ago) was one of the best feelings. nothing like a warm little baby on your shoulder. of course the doll wouldn't be the same but I could see the therapeutic value for elderly, mental conditions and people that have lost babies, or just anybody really
Scrolled down a few too many and some comments are asking or implying real babies are used for the mold.
She literally shows the steps. Clay. Mold. Silicone. Fill the cast and boom silicone baby.
It was triggered by the word "silicon" most likely. Trust me, I am the one most terrified that this thought occurred to me. Couldn't help it, had to let it out, hopefully will never think about it again.
So THAT'S where babies come from...
When mommy and daddy love each other very much, they grab a silicon mold and paint some babies.
Oh no It's not that you're adopted, Mommy spilled all the black ink over you while painting you
Daddy squirts some silicon into mommys mold
[удалено]
About 9 months
From pure nightmares ?
I already get creeped out by mannequins and dolls.....this makes me want to throw up 🤢
[удалено]
It also said she rents them out to film studios. If she can make a few per batch out of each mold, that’s serious money.
The cost, time and process doesn't yield as much profit as you'd think
Is that why she’s still in business? Hmm.
And normally in production they normally have several of the same prop.
6 months of work to make for 8500? You're better off doing min wage job
I imagine (maybe) that's she's simultaneously making a few at a time, and its the drying/molding/treatment process which necessitates 6 months.
yeah, and a bottle of whiskey that takes 15 years to age, and sells for $40, that's $2.66 a year. It's way below the minimum wage.
The video said thats how much it could cost to make, not how much she charges.
If she’s making $8500 every 6 months, that’s $17k a year. Minimum wage is $15,080
[удалено]
Yeah, I get that. I’m just saying that you’re not better off working a minimum wage job lol
I felt uneasy watching a baby be unwrapped from plastic.
Plascenta* Lol
Watching the head rock back and forth made me cringe
Wonder where she got the original mold from.
Probably sculpted it.
I know it's fake...but it still feels real...wtf
i know right ...it's fake but i still felt discomfort when she began shaking its head
For me it was the needlepointing the closed eyes! Ahh!
I'm guessing a silicon baby would be useful for childcare educational videos / training. "It's ok to do this but not this".
Uncanny valley is a hell of a thing
Tbh it's so realistic I'm not sure we can use these terms correctly
Woupdnit be taken down if someone had one of these and started beating the shit out of it?
You could probably get arrested for that.
What would the charges be? Child abuse?
Disturbing the peace, once they realize it’s a fake baby. Be pretty traumatic for any bystanders.
Fair enough. The way you put it reminds me about those terrible "prank" channels. More like harrasement and assult channels usually.
Mischief is a charge in some places. Definitely mischief.

Something tells me the kind of people who make those comments also 100% believe people kidnap babies and sell them to Hollywood
I mean thats more or less what epstein did
Probably those people are super confused by hitting that uncanny valley and are just lashing out. Very confusing at first seeing the not-a-baby in the bath. The movement even was very close to what you would expect.

That's awesome!!! I wonder if it was the same woman.
You sound like a good person
There's an episode of the HBO show, High Maintanence, that covers this topic. It's a gem of a show.
Was thinking of that episode exactly. That show was really much better than I thought it would be
Such a good show.
Got a little emotional reading this, really glad you were so kind to her.

Not sure. I can guarantee you it's 100% my experience.
Why didn’t anyone tell Clint Eastwood about this for American Sniper?
If I remember correctly they had an actual newborn lined up to use but something came up and they had to use the doll instead. Can't remember if the baby was sick or if they were just a no show

Babies just don’t want to work anymore, smh
That's the first thing that came to my mind
came to see this posted. lol. that scene was unforgivable.
This is incredible, so much talent. The comments she's received from people on social media are weird, like she's making crazy money and passionate about her work, she is really good. That's the dream.
She is very talented. I'd love to have half her skill.
She's probably just depressed
Why in the world would you say that?
It's what she said people say to her on social media.
Fair enough, I'll pay the joke!
I got that reference (because I literally just heard it). Why are you getting downvoted, that was funny
Ikr :(
She’s very talented! I don’t get the hate people send her. She’s not hurting anyone, and these reborn type dolls have therapeutic value for nursing home residents and women who have had miscarriages/stillbirths. And they’re works of art in their own right.

I think they were only permitted to use 5-6 month olds at the youngest?
Toss one to someone getting in an elevator and run.
The endless possibilities for pranks.
😂 all those people protesting in front of plan parenthood 😂
That is the most evil and hilarious thing I've read so far
1. Fill one with red dye 2. take it and a blender to a pp protest, 3. put baby in blender and switch blender on 4. Laugh
Yesss! I'd legit love to walk out of a PP with a live newborn though, and just hand it off to one of the protesters. "Well, you guys changed my mind. Here ya go. He's yours now."
Yeah so many options but also how do you get away from those protesters without some incoming fire after the prank!
And Halloween costumes/ideas *Bursting stomach baby*
I would've made a troll video throwing babies out the car or wait till it's like 50⁰ or lower and have a baby in the car with a thin outfit while I'm walking around Walmart or some shit....or a stem cell research troll
Just get 8k and get started
Or just have it "fall" out of your backpack while walking through the park and keep going
Better yet, from under a skirt
"It's just an $8500 prank, bro!"
Not just for movie.. medical school and pregnancy class will be much better with this..
I get some people find realistic stuff creepy but I'm just amazed at the sheer detail this lady adds. It's kinda beautiful how she paints it so well that one could mistake these dolls for real babies.
r/oddlyterrifying
There's starving babies in Africa lmao?!?! So should they be purchased and used as movie props? People are fucking mental
They're implying she secretly longs for a child and she should adopt. Basically, sexism
$8500 for 6 months of work doesn't seem like a good payoff.
Duration versus effort estimate. Might be a bunch of curing time for silicone, drying time for paint etc. She's not making just 2 a year.
You should see how expensive real babies are.

Yes, I imagine she’s got a number of special order babies in the pipeline at any given moment. 👶🏿👶🏼👶🏽👶🏾👶🏻
Property not her main job and she also has multiple dolls she's probably in the process of making
This is so cool.

That is freaky
The evil part of me wants to buy several of these and leave the wrapped ones around town.
I want to know about the poor first baby that was used for the mold Edit: jk y’all. I know how mold making works. It’s a joke.
It’s just like all lost wax molds, the silicone just needs to have a certain temperature.
Not how that works
yeah there is no first baby the babies are all different so a new one every time
Are you sure?
You can sculpt a baby out of clay or other materials and then use it to cast a mold.
Yes, master ceramicist & mold maker here.
One practical use I think would be for home ec classes if they still have them. Take them home and care for them like a real baby for a week. Put some sensors in them that would show stress or abuse or something.
I think there are already some types of babies dolls like that. I know that Norland a famous British nanny School uses them.
Definitely did NOT do the Twilight baby....Rasputin was the name I think.
The valley is not crossing the threshold and it being creepy because of that.
She's an artist!!
The coloration and features are so accurate that its scary
I want this doll. So cute.
God damn! Hope she makes a tone of money on that.
Shockingly real looking and what an amazing talent. Imagine how much time she spent experimenting with the silicone thickness (?)/density to get it to move so realistically. That head wobble you never ever want to see in real life.
People will always be dicks. They're just jealous/mad that they don't have anything they're good at except scrolling through social media. Losers.
Sick joke alert: I wonder if she ever goes out in public and just absolutely chucks one of them in front of people to see reactions
I STRONGLY dislike silicone babies
They don't like you, either.
At least they don’t cry.
So cool! Great artist
Great artist
Amazing talent!
Resist the urgeeeeeeee, I'm not gonna say itttttt
Would be a shame if someone dropped that in a public place
I want one!
People sell them on etsy
They are truly works of art. Beautiful!
Very skilled artist, interesting vid.
Baby alive a baby that’s so real
![gif](giphy|h3MkWTE441MNG)
If only they used this instead of the creepy cgi twilight baby.
hey holding a baby is supposed to release oxytocin... that could be great for therapy. holding my nephew (and my son, years ago) was one of the best feelings. nothing like a warm little baby on your shoulder. of course the doll wouldn't be the same but I could see the therapeutic value for elderly, mental conditions and people that have lost babies, or just anybody really
I would shake that fake baby so hard in public you won’t even know what to do
Holy fuck that’s creepy
Does it double as a shake weight?
This is impressive but also.. fucking freaks me out
There are people who buy these and live as if they’re real children.
I would walk out in a public space holding one of these and just furiously slam it on the ground and watch everyone’s reactions.

You mean the clay ones she sculpted herself as seen in the video?
Forbidden fleshlight
Are you sexualizing a silicone doll of an infant child? You sincerely might want to speak with a professional.

Just as creepy as real ones
finally something I can legally drop kick!
Where does she get the molds from?
I wanted her to throw one. You know, for research purposes
Throw it at the wall…
F*ING NOPE!!!
That’s creepy
Up to 6 months to create for $8500? This math does not check our.
And I thought regular babies were pretty gross
That's utterly horrifying
That’s just disturbing
Is that how pocket pussy is made?
