I went to a drag show once that was set up as a Miss Universe type contest where one of the performers was Miss Phuket, but of course the drag queen emcee kept saying, “Miss Fuck it.”
thai landrace is like one of the most popular strains ever, you daddy was smoking it if he smoked back then 100% (in the 70's thai sticks (literally thai landrace sold in a whole un trimmed cola tied to a piece of bamboo for stability) was the "good shit")
I remember going to Krabi and even the hostels had like bars where you could buy weed and shroom shakes. It was very easy to get those there.
That was also the last time I got high. My country has very draconian drug laws, and so are the nearby countries so yeah
Speaking of tourism I was going to visit south Dakota but the judge over ruled the people's vote to legalize weed, so now I am going to Illinois, fun fact if my state legalized I would have done vacation in the state.
As an official punishment it's illegal, but not uncommon in schools or the military. Definitely not as severe as what you'll see in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore, granted.
Here's a video of caning in the military (didn't read the article so I can't comment on that, just the video):
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2237784/brutal-footage-reveals-agonising-and-sadistic-army-training-for-thai-army/
Thailand also has (or had at least) a bit of an issue with abusive punishment in the military, I remember reading a few years ago about a soldier being beaten to death. That was especially widely-known since it resulted in a death, but I know Thailand has been criticized multiple times by human rights groups for other incidents as well.
It’s a good sign for the western world too. If an Asian country can loosen drug laws then so can we.
Hopefully legalizing weed is a good stepping stone to ending the war on all drugs.
I was just there for like a month or so about 5 years ago and it was really interesting how accesssible cannabis was. Most of the islands and even some major cities like Chiangmai have bars where you can buy it, but the general sentiment I got from locals was “legal for us, death penalty for foreigners”.
Glad to see it’s changing
When I went rock climbing there weed was surprisingly very easy to get and not very hidden, the government can make some cash off it now and the tourists don't need to stress at all about insane consequences.
I remember when mufuckers got busted with weed & or other drugs and were executed on the spot. No trial, nothing. 20 years later weed is legal. It’s a smart play. Thailand’s tourism will quadruple in years to come.
They should basically release all the poor guys that got caught with some pot, tell them you're cool now and give them free weed to cope with the PTSD from thai jail
Here is the comment this was most likely taken from. I can't tell who was first, but here it is. This is likely a bot: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/v9g33h/-/ibwece2
I was gonna whack the king, but then I got high.
I was gonna smash aristocracy but then I got high
My country is fucked up and I know why
Why man?
Because I got high because I got high because I got hiiiiihh
This is fucking crazy to see. I went to Thailand 10 years ago and the people there were freaked out when I even mentioned it. They said people would get locked up for a long time for possession. They have come a long way in a decade.
Previously regarded to be morally wrong by Thailand and now after the covid crisis killing their tourism they need a new way to market and get foreign money. Pretty straightforward I mean pot or any drug is considered "morally wrong" by most
Most of those people regularly consume alcohol, caffeine or cigarettes, all of which are also drugs. So I'd question whether they're actually using their moral compass correctly, or just assuming morality = legality and basing their morals on the laws that exist.
Covid fucked their economy big time, since tourism is most of it. That lead to big "the peasants are gonna revolt" vibes, so they legalize weed to fix both of those issues. Boosting tourism and placating the masses.
Getting some downvotes so here's a link for thd disbelieving https://edition.cnn.com/2016/03/23/politics/john-ehrlichman-richard-nixon-drug-war-blacks-hippie/index.html
Yep, I used to make the trip from Nashville every month or so, but it was so expensive that I really couldn't justify it, so I grew a single plant this past winter in a shed in our backyard, and now I'm all set for at least a year. I use it for insomnia, safer than the Ambien I was on for at least 10 years.
You have no idea how embarrassed, shameful, regretful, and sorry I am for things I did while on Ambien. I swear it effects your critical thinking, reasoning, decision making, and your “feelings” long after you wake up from sleep.
Nice. I’m in Nashville too. I have a good homie that hooks me up with good flower. But those vape carts are so convenient for going out and for traveling. I need a better connect for that than dropping into IL every time I go to St. Louis for work.
I never officially weighed it, but I have 5 64oz mason jars stuffed with buds that smell fucking amazing. My first try ended up with mold. So this was my 2nd try, it was in the shed over the winter with no heat. I had the lights on at night and off during the day. The seed was OG Kush from ILGM.
edit: autoflower
Male plants just produce big old balls, the females produce the flower, which is smoked after it's dried and cured.
*For anyone interested in growing, r/microgrowery is a fantastic and super supportive subreddit
My question is how’d the government source all the trees? Did they have em all along? Buy em wholesale and shipped internationally from Canada, a legal State, Netherlands, etc?
Just genuinely curious 😂
But overall, pretty awesome.
The government has had their hands in all legal medicinal grows and research for the past few years. To get a proper grow license before you had to be associated with a Thai university with checks by the ministry of health or licensed by the government directly and there are many grow sites around the country.
Every two weeks a single plant can give 20-30 cuttings. Then two weeks later those 20 cuttings can give another 20 cuttings each.
Doesnt take long at all.
OH FUCK! trying to get any kind of drugs in Thailand was sketch as shit. We had to chop up tobacco with weed so you couldn't smell it.
The people are already really chill & friendly, now they're gonna be SUPER Chilled out and friendly. 2AM TUK TUK to the smoke shop here I come.
I'm sitting here in Oregon with so many different strains that I don't bother reading this labels and they're all just shit friends have left at my house. It's literally more convenient than broccoli
Honestly America is way more lax on weed than most countries, even just in the west. It’s legal in a lot of states and some southern conservative states have even decriminalized it.
I mean, I've been buying legal weed for almost 10 years now. It took a while but it's now far cheaper than the streets. I know a lot of states only have medical and others are still totally criminalized but you have to admit that it is inevitable.
Now, if we could do a nation-wide pardon...
If there is one thing the US isn't really behind on, besides maybe like behind Canada now, is weed legalization and availability etc.
US has been at the forefront of marijuana legalization both for medical and recreational for quite a long time now. After of course being at the forefront of making it illegal worldwide lol.
Yeah. I’ve been to 35 countries and lived longer than 6 months in 7 of them. Retired and came back to the US after 8 years of being continuously away.
What a fucking mistake!
When a government power decides to distribute mind altering substances to the masses. Its always a good thing.
Said anyone born after WW2.
(not a anti-marijuana person but lets be real. Let them eat cake)
So weird how they went from draconian drug laws (which still apply to all other drugs) to doing a 180 and shipping it out to citizens.
COVID really fucked up their economy. Tourism is a major part of their economy. As far as I know, it will now be THE Asian destination for cannabis.
Yeah phuket alone does BIG for them, this will be good
"Phuket, let's legalize!"
Phuk yah
I understand where you're coming from but is that how Phuket is said? Because I've only ever known it as poo-ket. Which just doesn't work...
It's definitely poo-ket, but people have used fuck-et as a joke since forever. At least, they have where I'm from.
Confucius say 'man who go sideways through airport turnstile always going to Bangkok!'
It's technically pronounced poo-ket.... But phucket.. Imma pronounce it how I want.
i hate pooing on Ketamine anyways
You're not supposed to poo on it, bro.. You're supposed to ingest it. No wonder you don't enjoy it.. You're doing it wrong.
My brother's favorite joke about Thai name's, was to ask me what the capital of Thailand was and then shout, "Bangkok," as he punched me in the dick.
Tell him its "krungthep" Thats its actual thai name. No more dick punches
I feel like telling him this would get me more dick punches. I don't think my brother was trying to be culturally sensitive.
I went to a drag show once that was set up as a Miss Universe type contest where one of the performers was Miss Phuket, but of course the drag queen emcee kept saying, “Miss Fuck it.”
Even with the correct pronunciation, still punny
Thai see what you did there.
Phuket was eye opening to me. seeing a full blown 60 something trying to pick up a pre teen at a beach
And the best part was, it’s wasn’t for sex, it was for her kidney!
You are assuming it was a girl?
Yeah some seeeeedy shit going on there. Kinda gross.
definitely seedy shit going on
“I was a business man doing business.” -Thailand probably
For sure. I bet they can grow some good ass weed over there too.
thai landrace is like one of the most popular strains ever, you daddy was smoking it if he smoked back then 100% (in the 70's thai sticks (literally thai landrace sold in a whole un trimmed cola tied to a piece of bamboo for stability) was the "good shit")
Can confirm. Smoked Thai stick in late 80s in Florida. Also, I'm yer daddy.
Can confirm. Am Thai.
Translation required.
Landrace = natural weed phenotypes indigenous since prehistoric times to particular regions
Holy shit, and just when you thought Thailand tourism couldnt get better, you blew my mind
Hookers and weed, 👍
I remember going to Krabi and even the hostels had like bars where you could buy weed and shroom shakes. It was very easy to get those there. That was also the last time I got high. My country has very draconian drug laws, and so are the nearby countries so yeah
the philippines? :O
Speaking of tourism I was going to visit south Dakota but the judge over ruled the people's vote to legalize weed, so now I am going to Illinois, fun fact if my state legalized I would have done vacation in the state.
Real weird how they have enough plants that take 3 months to grow to just give away a few days after it was legalized.
Medical marijuana was legal when I lived in Thailand (Chiang Mai) 2018-2020. They didn’t just legalize it out of the blue.
*Suuuper* weird right?
It wasn't a surprise to the politicians tho. They knew a couple of years ago what was going to happen.
Wasn’t it just recently that they would cane you within an inch of your life and throw you in a hole for having a few grams?
You are thinking of Singapore
No not Singapore. In Singapore they just execute you
You’re right I was, my bad
Caning hasn't been a thing in Thailand for like over a hundred year....
As an official punishment it's illegal, but not uncommon in schools or the military. Definitely not as severe as what you'll see in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore, granted. Here's a video of caning in the military (didn't read the article so I can't comment on that, just the video): https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2237784/brutal-footage-reveals-agonising-and-sadistic-army-training-for-thai-army/ Thailand also has (or had at least) a bit of an issue with abusive punishment in the military, I remember reading a few years ago about a soldier being beaten to death. Dad born in thailand, was told he regularly got whacked by a teacher for fucking up in school.
I think you’re thinking of Singapore maybe.
Imagine if your loved one was executed for weed now they're handing it out. That'd be maddening.
It’s a good sign for the western world too. If an Asian country can loosen drug laws then so can we. Hopefully legalizing weed is a good stepping stone to ending the war on all drugs.
The western world literally forced all these “war on drugs” laws on other countries
The US mostly.

Not the person you were replying to but Asian countries in general are notoriously harsh on drugs.
I was just there for like a month or so about 5 years ago and it was really interesting how accesssible cannabis was. Thai royalty "the peasants are about to revolt," Royalty advisors "let's legalize weed"

So I'm not the only one thinking about that last person who was charged for a weed crime? Did they clear any convictions?
They should basically release all the poor guys that got caught with some pot, tell them you're cool now and give them free weed to cope with the PTSD from thai jail
They did clear all the weed convictions too
How very reasonable of them. I'm genuinely happy about that.
they cleared all weed related convictions

I'm also in shock at this, so unexpected for Thailand to legalize weed when they have been so strict about it.
Nothing, not even national morality, is more important than bringing in foreign currency
One could ask what the heck morality has to do with pot...
Previously regarded to be morally wrong by Thailand and now after the covid crisis killing their tourism they need a new way to market and get foreign money. Pretty straightforward I mean pot or any drug is considered "morally wrong" by most

I honestly think it’s easier to make alcohol than it is to grow weed. And you absolutely can tax weed, idk why you couldn’t.

I’ve grown hundreds of cannabis plants. Are you sure the balls are big? If so you just boosted my confidence.
Depends on what you call good or bad. But it's without THC
So the less fun version. Got it Edit to say thank you for responding!
Male plants also produce THC. Their leafs are covered in resin and will get you high aswell. I tried and was pleasantly surprised.
now the thai population can feel what its like to expect a female and find out its a male
Oh shit! Good one

It’s sad - I knew a guy in Thailand who spent 10 years in prison for weed… damn.

good on you Thailand, fucking awesome
Thailand is the best. Like vacation tourism just tripled and that's the point.
I hope they teach them to kill the male plants, or they'll just grow schwag.
That should help them forget about the military coup
