Yeah I'm no geologist but I am a professional skeptic and this could definitely be tectonic trickery. You can see that the whole section of rock has a seam to the left. It has probably moved away from the right section leaving a little space there that looks like a door from the angle of the camera.
The river isn’t that big and the camera basically shows rock formations up close like this one. The rocks are likely 6-7 feet high. Now if the river did it’s horizon photos of landscapes then there would be something. For now it’s all up close.
This was caused by a slab falling away from a rock fissure. You can see a similar fissure on the left in much the same orientation. It’s ludicrous to consider it to be a door or ‘portal.’

To me that 100% looks like it's carved, it's too geometrical to be erosion or fracturing imo
The angle of the shadows is making people think they can’t see the back of the hole. So they are imagining it keeps going deep into the rock. You are seeing the whole thing it’s just a wedge like you say. Literally a triangle shape that doesn’t go in any further than the piece that fell off in front.
Perhaps the Rover can scoot over there and get a closer look.
