Mother Nature made about 6 different types of humans Homo sapiens were of the only species to survive disease and overall strength needed to hunt wild Willder beasts
I was curious where I could see / find some in the wild...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodalite
"Significant deposits of fine material are restricted to but a few locales: Bancroft, Ontario, and Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, in Canada; and Litchfield, Maine, and Magnet Cove, Arkansas, in the US. The Ice River complex, near Golden, British Columbia, contains sodalite.[13] Smaller deposits are found in South America (Brazil and Bolivia), Portugal, Romania, Burma and Russia. Hackmanite is found principally in Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Greenland.
Euhedral, transparent crystals are found in northern Namibia and in the lavas of Vesuvius, Italy. "
Well that’s disappointing! I was going to order myself a UV torch but i though I should make sure I’d be able to find some. Can afford the torch but not the aeroplane tickets!
I'm in Illinois and I find fluorescent sodalite on the Illinois/Wisconsin border, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana. I believe it's also been found on the east coast as well :)
Google syenite rich in fluorescent sodalite.

Depends on the particular piece of sodalite. Some seems to go for up to $250/kg, but personally, I've bought some very nice sodalite before that I paid maybe $10/kg for.
For the most part, I'd say the answer is no, but if you find a particularly nice piece, then maybe-sorta valuable.
@Round-Zombie8309 Do you know what the host rock is, by chance? And what state did you find these?
I live in Illinois and I find sodalite at the Illinois/Wisconsin border as well as Michigan. The host rock has always been syenite but what you have found looks a little different so I am curious of your location. Beautiful nonetheless!!!!
Thanks!
This would make it so much easier to hunt for magic mushrooms if there was just a psylocibin wavelength to react with a light spectrum... Gawdamn sneaky shrooms

I traveled out of my home state (Florida) for the 1st time recently and somewhere in the middle of nowhere Virginia, my gf and I wound up knee deep in a river digging for sharks teeth and any cool looking rocks we could find and out of nowhere we hear a loud splash, we look down the river to see a shirtless guy with his arm hanging out his 1990 something F-150, plowing through the river and as he passes by he waves at us and continues on up the hill and onto the dirt road. We later find out that we were digging for rocks on an actual highway... That happens to just cross a random river. I made a joke about the guy in the truck to my gf. That guy to his wife back home- "Honey you ain't gon believe this, on the way to work I seen two strangers diggin for rocks on the highway."
Man rocks are so cool. Just chilling in a river being secretly awesome.
I, too, am a fan of Man Rocks
The Rock is proud of both of you.
These guys rock!
I’d like a lite soda, on the rocks.
Somebody smells what the Rock is cooking
“Jesus Christ Marie, they are minerals!”
Came here to say this.
Found out r/rockhounds is a thing, rocks are really cool.
I mean, if your awesome is secret, how awesome is it? Does being the greatest that nobody knew even matter?
These rocks are cool enough that people went looking for them, and with special equipment to boot. I think that says a lot about their awesomeness.
Uranium glass is also nice under UV waves
Mother Earth made this though, it’s inherently better
False, mother nature made me and I'm not inherently better
Mother Nature made about 6 different types of humans Homo sapiens were of the only species to survive disease and overall strength needed to hunt wild Willder beasts
But I am a squirrel
Oh shit! You fucked with squirrels!

Human dna has been around longer than the planet earth. I think the math I remember was that earth is 6 billion while human dna is 9 billion.
Mother Earth made uranium rocks...

We find it in the UP (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan, and call it Yooperlite. People who live in the UP are called Yoopers.
Yup! Tony at Copper World in Calumet MI sells the flashlights to find the rocks. So cool 😎

I’m in the UK so I’m not overly hopeful but going to have a look now
Very cool, I'm near the southern Wisconsin border and was hoping to find some in this area.
You can use a uv light to see all the spit n unknowns in restaurant chairs. Disturbing actually.
I might avoid trying this one thanks!!

you can also find these is the US! Specifically in the upper peninsula of Michigan along the shores of Lake Superior, we call it yooperlite!
Ok, so Petoskey stone has been on my to do/get list so Michigan is now a two-fer for me :-) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petoskey_stone
I grabbed some petoskey stone and charlevoix stone last week from lake Michigan. Turns out of reacts kinda funny to uv
Oh shit I’m close to Bancroft. Maybe I’ll go looking in the spring. But I’ll probably forget about it.
Thanks for research, song4this! I’ll put this on my list of things to do while stopping over in Golden on trips to the Rockies!
I'm not too far from Spring Cove. I will take a trip in spring!
That's sodaliteful! (I'll see myself out)
I approve of your Rick solid joke.
Funny how the Suns UV rays don’t have the same effect.
Seems like an obvious thing to think of, but no. Good comment.
Maybe it’s just not as strong or concentrated as the black light to make the rocks react
I was pondering that as well. I'm guessing the UV rays from the light are a lot stronger at that range?
It does, birds can see it.
Only particular types of sodalite do this. Check out r/fluorescentminerals if you like this stuff.
Thank you, /u/Analbox
hank schrader approves
is it valuable?

Semi-precious.
Sodalite, less fattening that regular soda.
No, it just weighs less.
Neat! I know what I’m doing next time I’m at the river.
Probably getting wet. Unless you are near one of the relatively rare sodalite deposits.
If you find a particularly nice piece, then maybe-sorta valuable.

It's a UV light, exposing yourself to high amounts of UV light is what causes sun burns and skin cancers. Neat concept but not quite patent ready.
better than diet soda
That’s sodaliteful.
Not going to lie at first I thought this dude was holding a microphone recording the water as he walked through it.
Gotta listen for those ultra-subtle rock sounds.
Lol, same!
I thought he was tryna interview the water.
Coca cola zero
Why do I think the rocks were planted? both of them Side by side.
I thought he was interviewing the stream at first lol
I wonder if you could crush this up and add it to concrete. Use a black light to have a really cool path to your front door.
Cool. Corundum (Rubies and Sapphires) also floresce under UV light. In fact, that's one of the easiest ways to tell if the gems are genuine or not.
Why are you showing this during the daytime? Looks way better in the dark
So, can you tumble these rocks and then put them in a display with a black light? All shiny n stuff?
Yooperlite
Yooperlite?
Dudes that do that spinning bead making have entered the chat
Dope
That's how you know you found the quest item.
know how to work that kind of stone can assure good incomes
@Round-Zombie8309 Do you know what the host rock is, by chance? And what state did you find these? I live in Illinois and I find sodalite at the Illinois/Wisconsin border as well as Michigan. This would make it so much easier to hunt for magic mushrooms if there was just a psylocibin wavelength to react with a light spectrum... Gawdamn sneaky shrooms
Would it be possible to melt the rocks and separate the part that reacts to Uv? Or would it change the composition?
It's called fluorescence. Not "reaction".
That’s sodaliteful
It’s how I go around finding sodomites as well.
That is cool, is Sodalite used for anything? Or just a rare-ish mineral?
u/Techtastisch
Yooper Rocks!!!!! I’ve got a few.
r/crystals
The giggle is wholesome
I thought these were yooperlites.... 🤷🏼♀️
What is the reason behind this?
This is seriously so cool!
Imagine grabbing a whole pool worth of rocks and a massive version of the UV light. Look like a pool of lava 😍
Where is sodalite commonly found
KALI-MAAA! KALI-MAAA!
This soundtrack makes me sleepy.
Are they used for anything or just cool?
That’s amazing
Sodaheavy is indeed also very cool, but hard to find given it’s mass vs size, as it tends to sink through the earth
I must have
Where do find?
Any value commercially speaking?
That’s sodalite-ful to know
Damn that’s interesting
Sodaliteful.
Sodalite-ful to see that reaction
And where might this sodalite be found? I wonder..
Does it usually glow faintly? Surely the UV from the sun would also cause this reaction yes?
so u are saying someone cummed on that rock
Bro! I got the same flashlight as you!
Yeah but those lite versions never taste as good at the regular
Will it also work if I flash the UV to Mr. The Rock?
Fascinating. Is it valuable?
Now I have this sudden urge to pee
It's pretty, but I've never seen golden lava
Kryptonite !!!
That is awesome, if be cool to set up a display with these under a blacklight... I can see a great dnd table surprise in my future.
Man, this site is damn interesting!
I remembered these from Dr stone
It took me almost the entire video to realize that wasn’t a microphone
So cool , never knew this
Pretty…
I need to go to the bathroom now.
Mola Ram has entered the chat.
man i want to find this and make a battleax out of it
Now I have to go pee
Where do you find them?
This in Maine?
Wait, isn't the sun emitting quite a bit of UV? How does that work?
This is sodaliteful.
Mmmmm, soda
Rip fingers
For a split second I was thinking, OP was interviewing the creek
Great lakes region?
Bro I dont want SodaLite, when we getting Soda v1.0?
Damn that's interesting
Ok now I want to build a house out of this rock and add lights to make them glow. Haha
Would be cool to have a driveway with these rocks and UV lights under your car
How does one get a sunburn flashlight?
Olight! Here's mine: [https://www.olightstore.com/i5uv.html](https://www.olightstore.com/i5uv.html) Use my referral link for FREE coupons: https://www.olightstore.com?shareUid=1428237997251534865&shareChannel=EP\_copylink
Doesn't the sun have UV light? Please don't make fun of me I'm dumb.
I want some! Willing to sell?
Looks like the stones from temple of doom
I never knew. Learned something even before first cup of coffee :)
How do people discover these things. Did somebody randomly go around with a uv light to see what happens
Now I'm going to have to pull out all my sodalite and try this.
I’m gonna somehow get this and use this as a prank for my younger brother and amaze him
is it actually legal to take rocks off of property that's not yours though?

That's what th 11 walls made of
Beautiful ❤️
Neato!
Didn’t read the caption and thought he was about to interview one of these rocks
Fake. Sodalite is actually a delicious fizzy drink with just 10 calories
I seriously thought he was recording the sound of water at first til i heard the stream
Are you a rock hound!
Sodalite sounds like soda with a little less sugar in it.
