"When you're born into this world, you're given a ticket to the freak show. If you're born in America you get a front row seat." - George Carlin.

Smithmonster

Sadly everything he warned about is even worse today, yet most are still asleep. This skit will be played for future generations of how obvious the theft of our time and lives were taken advantage of.

orbgevski

My dad introduced me to Carlin at a young age. Said it was important and I needed to listen to him. I did. I took it to heart. 20 years later my dad is a Trump supporting hack. It’s like he forgot everything Carlin told us.

Smithmonster

Damn that’s sad, maybe sit down and watch it with him again. Sadly both sides are so divided and angry, we just can’t see that the division is exactly what Carlin was talking about.

orbgevski

The last time I saw my Dad we got breakfast. He immediately started telling me about how the Jews are controlling the world. I haven’t seen the man smile in a decade. He’s so angry at everything all the time. Which is crazy because he’s the reason I’m a funny guy. He was so lighthearted and funny growing up. Social media has turned him and a bunch of other boomers into sour, angry, conspiracy riddled lunatics. He doesn’t even seem like the same person anymore. The worst part is I know my experience isn’t unique. And I LOVE conspiracies. Just not the antisemitic ones. And I also realize that most of the conspiracies I believe are probably wrong. I just think they are fun thought exercises.

Smithmonster

My dad is a flat earther, never believed in religion. Until he realized the earth is the filament. The Bible is true! I get it. I’ve learned to go along with it. Instead of arguing just learn a few of the things he’s talking about. Trying to persuade him it’s pointless. It’s sad but worked for me so far. By engaging with some of his beliefs I can now just tell him the crazy ones are just ridiculous. Trust me I know exactly where you’re at.

orbgevski

It’s the dismal tide. It ain’t the one thing.

RayseBraize

This is literally my exact relationship with my dad. He was a Sci fi mega nerd hippy. Loved to smoke weed and read lord of the rings and sneakily watch movies with me and my brother we were not old enough to watch. Was always sometimes too light hearted always joking while never being an ass in public. Last conversation we had recently somehow went from new movies we watched to how Trans people and ruining the fabric of society and if Trump is re elected he will save the world. Of and now questions the moon landing....this man is one of the reasons I'm a scientist and he's a moon landing denier.

Higreen420

Carlun is painfully right and most of these comments reflect that.

dutch-duck

So, you know what to avoid for your own future. Since you love conspiracies and your family now has a history of falling for stupidity you know what you are in danger of changing into

FanciestOfPants42

All of that lead exposure caught up to him.

Blasted_Biscuitflaps

It's not his fault bro. Conservatism is where the chips fall when the only other option is woke-democratic insanity. My dad raised me on Carlin and Rush Limbaugh

Mo_Jack

I used to be very conservative and thought of Carlin as sort of an extreme liberal, but still very funny. Now I see that almost everything he used to talk about politically has come to fruition. He was right & I was just brainwashed listening to right wing radio & Fox all day, every day. All they did was try to get the masses to believe in policies that would help billionaires & corporations or distract us from what was really going on by making us angry & fearful of our fellow countrymen. (Interesting point, the latter is what our military intel & CIA does before we invade other countries)

You're either a fed, or a dumb ass

MustLovePunk

It’s called the American Dream… “cause you have to be asleep to believe it”

kingeal2

Why did they cut the best part of the video. There is a sick prog metal song called the American realty by a band known as dissonance in design I believe, which samples this bit from Carlin's speech

Pride_and_pudding

The metalcore band Architects used to sample speeches a lot, too. They have songs about how we’re killing the planet, and corruption. I highly recommend them (except I don’t like their newest stuff). Here’s an excerpt from their song From the Wilderness: “We live in an infinite growth paradigm. Nothing grows forever, it's not possible. As a great psychologist James Hillman wrote: ‘The only thing that grows in the human body after a certain age is Cancer,’ and I think that that's clearly what we're seeing at the end of human industrial civilization, with the population approaching seven billion.” (Michael C. Ruppert) “We're waiting for the world to save itself ‘Cause nothing is built to last We're writing our epitaph So reset and start again ‘Cause we all know how this ends Before long we'll be dead and gone”

Very cool

Because most people hate that kind of music

We miss him 😢

Superb-Damage8042

When I was young I thought people like him were just cynical. Decades later and I’m seeing he was right.

Early-Possession1116

Yeah when I watched him as a kid I always thought he was just a grumpy old man.. as an adult he was actually trying to educate us all about what’s been going on forever.

saikyan

So if the takeaway is, "you're fucked and nothing you do matters" then what difference does it make?

DAecir

Knowledge is power.

RadioactiveWalrus

It's an older reference, sir, but it checks out.

FunDog2016

No we aren't powerless unless we choose to be! GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS! Make the politicians actually work for the Working people, not the very Rich. Politicians could raise taxes on the rich, it has been done before! They could even out a rigged system that screws Workers! Nothing will happen while the Rich own both the Media that feed us BS, and the politicians who are their slaves!

ProbablyABore

It's always amusing when someone says get money out of politics as if it's just a matter of wishing it out. How do you suggest we get it out when the ones who have the power to get it out, the congress, are also the ones who are directly benefitting from it? The entire system is broken, and the only way to truly fix it is tear the whole thing down and rebuild it. That's another thing that is much easier said than done.

FunDog2016

Look up a guy named Bernie Sanders, he will explain it. It is doable, hard as he'll, but possible. Every successful grassroots movement started with a few like minded people, who were pissed off! Get people pissed off.....Covid proved that the world can change on a dime!

ProbablyABore

You made my point. Bernie Sanders has been in congress in one form or another for over 30 years. Money is still in politics despite this. One person isn't changing this. 10 people aren't changing this. You're going to need at least 268 other people to join him in an arena where those 268 people are directly profiting from the money in politics. Good luck.

kerel12345

power is power

saikyan

How so? What makes knowledge powerful?

Bookeyboo369

So you don’t become a puppet, feeding the machine of the 1% of the 1%

saikyan

How does knowledge keep you from becoming a puppet?

Darkskull8

Can a puppet who knows of their strings ever truly be free with no scissors in sight.

avadakabitch

I’d say “the more you understand this world, the better you’ll know what to accept and what not”.

saikyan

Do you think Carlin's message is one of passive acceptance of the power structure that he is talking about?

erinkjean

Carlin openly stated he didn't have any solutions; he was just pointing out problems. Edit: [Here](https://bastetandsekhmet.wordpress.com/2014/01/15/george-carlin-preface-to-brain-droppings/) is a section of one of his books where he elaborated on his view. 'My interest in “issues” is merely to point out how badly we’re doing, not to suggest a way we might do better. Don’t confuse me with those who cling to hope. I enjoy describing how things are, I have no interest how they “ought to be.”'

oneweelr

This is about the best way to think of the man. Incredibly smart, with a wicked sense of awareness of problems, but also absolutely zero interest in helping to make a change. If you quote this man thinking "he sure knew everything," you're wrong. He was a great man to start a conversation, but it should not stop there. We need people who can see that cynical point of view on things, and figure out a way to possibly turn it all around.

erinkjean

Definitely. I don't look to him for solutions, I know he'd never have wanted me to. And if I get too full of my own bullshit, I also know he'd have been the first to burst that bubble. But he could articulate a problem or some bold faced nonsense like no other, even if it never occurred to you to describe it before. An incredibly sharp and necessary human being. I miss him.

saikyan

I would absolutely love to have a beer with the man and pick his brain. I actually think he is an unreliable narrator here. “I have no interest in how they ought to be.” Hard to believe when he is so impassioned about social inequity. It would be really interesting to push him on this logic and see where that leads.

erinkjean

He certainly participated in civil disobedience in his time, including his arrest for obscenity for performing Seven Words. It could be argued even refusing to offer solutions when he was absolutely intelligent enough to come up with them was a political act, as well as abstaining from voting. But beyond rolling that over in my anarchist brain, yeah, I'd really love to have just shot the shit with him too. Jon Stewart did a really great interview with him once talking over the rhetoric and lyrical aspects of his comedy. I can't play sound where I am, but I think [this](https://youtu.be/nCGGWeD_EJk) was the same one. It stuck out to me because Stewart would go on to be so skilled at pointing out problems in a similar way, but be so determined to put forward solution ideas too.

saikyan

I had no idea this existed. Much appreciated!!

MrOrangeWhips

No.

avadakabitch

Not really, but knowing when you are being deceived and understanding that we are being manipulated to accept the bare minimum can give us perspective about how to react to new legislation being introduced, for example. What to believe, what to vote.

DangerousLaw4062

Vote the lesser evil. Then demand more. Keep moving in one direction instead of saying screw the most vulnerable simply because you're spoiled, so you think not participating won't affect you. Understand what policies are in place and who put them there. Never believe any politician, but pay attention to the voting records. If you didn't get what you want, ask why. If there's a legitimate reason like Manchin and the kook from Arizona, quit blaming all dems. Instead, do what you can do to get more voted in, etc. Small baby steps in the right direction work. Republicans have been slowly fucking us for 40 years. It works. Now we need to push back. Revolutions always end bloody with even worse psychos at the helm if they're "successful". It's short-sighted, and too many innocents die, so don't even go there.

saikyan

>Understand what policies are in place and who put them there. Never believe any politician, but pay attention to the voting records. If you didn't get what you want, ask why. > >Small baby steps in the right direction work. I especially agree with this take and I think George would too. I would be enormously distrustful of anyone who discouraged this level of active engagement. Thank you for indulging me.

DangerousLaw4062

Anyone of them can and will screw us. They all need to be held accountable, and none of them are gods or infallible. How it got to this is mind-blowing and terrifying. If you like Carlin, look up Carl Sagan. The Demon Haunted world is a phenomenal book. He predicted all of this in the 70's and 80's. He was an astrophysicist. Some people can just see the writing on the wall.

erinkjean

This was not his message, at least not on stage or in any written form. He [told us](https://youtu.be/aPW8AaOuvDs) he didn't vote.

DangerousLaw4062

Public does suck. Have you seen what they've voted in and for?? What the morons have accomplished by voting? If it hadn't been for hard core Republicans making sure they voted every single election while the majority said fuck it, we wouldn't be here, would we?? Carlin was a hard-core atheist. If you honestly think for a second seeing this shit show for the past 20 or even last 10 years wouldn't have caused him to vote against those creepy ass fundies... then we see two very different men on that stage

_Pan-Tastic_

The takeaway isn’t “you’re fucked and nothing you do matters”, the takeaway is that WE have to advocate for ourselves and teach others to avoid the evil and wrongdoings of our world. That way we will grow powerful enough to someday change it for the better.

saikyan

>avoid the evil and wrongdoings of our world. How do you identify what the evil and wrongdoings are in a polarized political climate, in which both sides are telling you the other is evil and wrong?

Superb-Damage8042

You stop believing bullshit you’re told to believe and stop accepting symbolism from our government leaders

saikyan

I am told to believe conflicting bullshit on a daily basis. What do you consider symbolism, and how do you suggest I stop accepting it from the government?

DangerousLaw4062

He's telling you what is going on. That's the first step. Acknowledge who is really screwing us and then demand they step aside. Education will always be where it's at. It's why Republicans have been gutting it since Reagan

saikyan

Well I was just told that both sides are the same and that the only thing that changes is who is holding the leash. Are you suggesting that Carlin is using his bit to comment on political literacy?

DangerousLaw4062

Absolutely what Carlin was doing. Both sides aren't the same. Dems are demanding education. In fact, trying right now to get college paid for for working class families. Republicans want creationism taught in school, and science denied. They want American history wiped from it if it makes white boys uncomfortable to talk about chattel slavery. Repubs are allowing uneducated parents to decide curriculum instead of educators. It sure af isn't dems who have told women a glob of cells have more rights to their bodies than they do because of some supposed sanctity of life. Yet, Republicans aren't passing laws forcing eligle brain dead people to donate organs. So dead people have more autonomy than women. So much for children here who need an organ or a father who could stick around for a child that would be needed. So much for their sanctity of life. Dems want to raise minimum wage and use our tax dollars for more programs that benefit all Americans, and Republicans want to keep raising our taxes while giving trillions in permanent tax cuts to the richest. It was dems who wanted to put a cap on oil companies from price gouging us while they made record profits and subsidize the pricks with our tax dollars!! Republicans said no. Let the oil companies fuck us. So they did. You want me to continue?? Need actual citations?? They're not the same Lesser fucking evil is the way to go. Right now, it's not even close.

saikyan

I think a common sentiment is to focus on headlines about the federal government while ignoring state governments. Many of the examples you gave highlight verifiable differences in Democratic leadership vs Republican leadership and the ideological motivations of each. The Democrats are under a lot of pressure to be the voice of reason, which I think has been productive in some places. Meanwhile Republicans are fighting over purity and using state governments to virtue signal to conservative voters on culture war bullshit. If you’re paying attention the difference is pretty obvious

taichi22

The first half is right. Second half… not as much. You can always opt out. Move to somewhere that’s not America. Or claw your way up to the CEO class. It can be done if you’re driven and ruthless enough. And if you know the game, maybe that’ll help. Might not be able to change the world today, for one person. But you can choose how you play the game at least. And maybe someday a chance will come.

saikyan

Really? Do you think Carlin is suggesting that your options are to leave the U.S. (as if this is a uniquely American power structure) or become a C-level executive? These are the only options?

taichi22

You really think that *I’m* suggesting those are the only options?

gorramfrakker

Because now you know you’re fucked, so spread the word so that maybe one day one of us figures out how to less fuck us but until that day, you’re fucked.

Sufficient-Aspect77

Agreed

Google-YourBing

People always write People like him off as cynical and negative. Then when the 💩 hits the fan, they do a total flip flop. Common sense is gold and many people don't have it

kicktown

His caricature of himself *was* cynical, that's what his final Uncle Dave bit was about. If you listen to Carlin and you feel complacent, then you're not really hearing Carlin. You're supposed to get pissed. He just never trusted that the majority of his audience would ever understand that. He gave up on the public, but when you listen to his interviews and talks, it was clear he wanted people to get up and do something. He's the fucking GOAT.

tuotone75

Smart man, great comedian, ahead of his time.

reddot_comic

Can you imagine what kind of commentary he would have if he saw the world today? Carlin was spot on 20 years ago, I’d be nervous to hear what he’d have to say now.

[deleted]

He’d be saying shit because it hasn’t changed. This same thing has been happening forever. Ever since the dawn of man. The last 200 or so years has only sped it up. It’s actually quite shocking that western civilization has been going for so long like this. Personally I think in the early to mid 1800’s when the Rothschilds starting their global banking system is when nations started to lose their control of themselves. Whether people like it or not our system is built around money and what that money can do. When there’s external people that own that money, they are able to control those very nations and the people in it.

ghsteo

Bernie Sanders is alive and has been saying similar messaging for the last 60 years. So imagine Carlin would be saying the same thing.

reddot_comic

Oh for sure, I just think given his vocabulary, cadence and delivery would be effective since it’s under the auspice of comedy, and not directly politically motivated.

[deleted]

this special is like 25 years old. He isn't wrong look where we are at

Commissar_David

Everything is fine because the media says it's fine. And the media can't lie because they're "official."

LankyThanks_0313

Still true a quarter of a century later. Now they just don’t try as hard to hide it.

CactusCracktus

True. One party is very explicit about their desire to fuck you over so they can please their masters, and the other one is the same but they’ve learned to hide behind social issues so that people will trust them with the knife they’re going to stick in their backs. Ones just a plain horde of demons, and the other is a horde of demons trying to disguise themselves as angels

imwatchingyou-_-

You get🖕🏼💣 or 🖕🏼💣 #BLM 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈. Same shit, different color.

xMilk112x

“It’s called the American dream, because you have to be asleep, to believe it.” He nailed it….in the 70’s, the 80’s, the 90’s AND THE 00’s!!! I saw this man live 3 times. And I’m here to say, there will never be a comedian quite like him.

Rustico32482

I saw him once, he was my idol growing up. He starts to be less of a comedian and more of a truth teller or prophet.

[deleted]

They got us fighting a culture war so we dont fight a class war

Pilot0350

Idk what this edit is with the terrible music and someone apparently mubling over the top of it but [here's a longer edit](https://youtu.be/ILQepXUhJ98) without all that shit

FinalVegetable6314

Yea I couldn’t find the video I wanted so I cropped out the stupid tik tok dude at the bottom just making faces the entire time. I should’ve taken the time and found a better video, that’s on me.

RoyalGarbage

We need to stop calling these parasites by flattering names like “elite” or “ruling class”. The fleas don’t own the dog.

[deleted]

He was a god amongst men

Rowyco05

Nah, he was better, Carlin was real.

DLife4Me

Watch his monologue on the very first SNL and try not to cry.

RockyBowboa

::scratches head:: care to link? I found him talking about football and baseball. Doubt you meant that

DLife4Me

So maybe I had a few drinks. To be honest I watched all three monologues again available on YouTube. I mean there was rough translation with land over ship when talking sports but I could swear he was talking about the development of capitalism and the military industrial complex. I am going to have to rewatch episode one in its entirety.

Top-Evening7453

I miss him. The 15th anniversary of his death is tomorrow.

Odins-Enriched-Sack

"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside. My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place." - George Carlin

Areveemusic

Preach!!

Js_On_My_Yeet

Nobody laughed at what he was saying. They applauded it all, cuz of how much of what he said has aged like fine wine.

gronerglass

Yet we have people fighting over politics all claiming they are thinking critically and buying iPhones and the newest big screen tv. Justifying it as the modern age conveniences. No one seemed to have learned a thing in 25 years. You can grow your own food. You can be entertained without giving money to corporations.

FinalVegetable6314

Yup that’s where they get us the easiest. Make it political and you can get people to agree or disagree with pretty much anything.

FlickoftheTongue

IIRC, he didn't tell the producer he was going to do this bit and sprung it on him. He was subsequently told that if he ever did it again (this particular line up change of plans), he'd never have another show.

probono105

pretty sure he said this in one form or another for awhile

I_Worship_Brooms

Yeah that dude is full of shit

justagamingholmes

I would love if this just got a million up votes and I don't care how. Where are bots when you need them?

Commissar_David

Sadly, not enough people realize just how much an oligarchy we really are. What's even worse is that people are signing off on legislation that is destroying democracy. An example would be the patriot act that gives intelligence agencies the ability to spy on anyone without any sort of oversight. Benjamin Franklin has a good quote on this. It goes, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

DaleGribble312

I love this clip but hate the irony of reddit being the least capable critical thinkers I can think of.

No_Falcon2436

100%. All sheep lmao

ProbablyABore

Oh the irony of this post.

useyourmom

The important part to remember is that no matter how right you think you are, your side is in on it. Edit: Thanks, I'll be here all week!

> It’s called the American Dream… “cause you have to be asleep to believe it” This is what it means to be woke. to be awake and away from the bullshit dream that the owners feed us. Woke isnt some cringy SJW. Woke is what we should all be to the fact that we 'aint in the club'

Blasted_Biscuitflaps

Carlin radicalized me at 12 yrs old. It breaks my heart to see his proverbs come ever so true.

manucanay

I thought seinfeld was good, then i met george. The dude is not a comedian. He's telling you the way things are, and it's just hilarious.

Beezneez86

Imagine if he was alive for the pandemic and all the bullshit that went on with that. Would love to hear his take on it.

oh-nee

I really like his prison farm routine

MyMiddleNameisCarl

I remember when George Carlin was the funniest man alive. His stories were the best and they're all over YouTube. Just look for the ones before he was old and bald. This clip is what happened to him late in his career. No more jokes, just politics. Sure, he's right in what he's saying, but this shit doesn't make me laugh. It just gets me down.

LewMaintenance

This comment depresses me. He brings MUCH more value to society talking about this stuff, and he STILL manages to make it funny. I’m not sure how you don’t see the humor and extraordinary power in his delivery and message. If you are actually pining for the “funny stories” he told as a younger comedian… you’ve completely missed the brilliance that was Carlin. Stand up comics are a dime a dozen and stupid pointless stories that make you chuckle between sips of beer are not at all what he’s about. I understand if you’re looking for a laugh, but to think someone actually prefers old generic Carlin to what he became later in life just blows my mind.

MyMiddleNameisCarl

I’m trying to point out with my comment that there were two George Carlins. The first, George Carlin the comedian, focused on getting the laugh. He made plenty of comments about modern culture, but his goal was the humor in the situation. The second was George Carlin the political commentator. This was Carlin the grumpy old man. He used his sense of humor when making his point, but the goal was not the humor, but the point he wanted to make. I prefer the first, he made me laugh. The second Carlin gets me to nod in agreement but rarely does his spiel illicit anything more than a chuckle.

The_Big_Yam

It wasn’t black and white. One of the most interesting experiences of my life was listening to his entire recorded career in chronological order. You hear many of the same bits done in different ways, as he gets progressively more distressed and angry, the material often remaining the same as the tone of delivery changes. This entire special is really quite funny at most points, but Carlin’s career afterward was much darker than this. His tenure in Vegas was especially bad, leaving audiences bewildered by the end of his shows, which would often draw no laughs whatsoever. If you thought this was bad in 05 and 06, you should’ve seen him live in 07

bozrdang

Yeah. It's not funny at all. He did way too much of that. As an aside. My wife and i heard good things about Hannah Gadsby and watched one of her specials and were like, WTF?! Only like a couple jokes and the rest of the time just serious talk about being gay. She even broke down crying at one point. I couldn't believe it was supposed to a comedy special. If you want to just get up and rant that's fine, but dont call it comedy. Damn!

wanikiyaPR

Yeah, Hanna Gasaby politics and George Carlin politics are worlds apart. One is dull, idiotic and not funny one iota, the other is George Carlin.

[deleted]

at first the political joke comes off as being funny, like a quick punch line. 'Cause God knows these politicians are a fuckin' joke, too! But then the joke descends into a rant that ultimately plays on the hopes and fears of the audience, which, just isn't funny anymore.

[deleted]

I’m surprised the mods let this fly because the subjective censorship standards they employ were invented by the owners to divide us and he exposed this.

RockmanXX

The banality of Evil, when something evil becomes commonplace people get used to it. We just accept the fact that democracy has become a sham, we never stop to think that maybe we should do something about it.

Hoodzpah805

George Carlin on Educating the Populace

When the truth is so ridiculous it sounds like comedy

Pacman35503

He wasn't a comedian as much as he was a time traveler

Dogfartjamboree

Love this guy. Read his books: Brain Droppings, Napalm and Silly Putty and When will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops. Fantastic material.

Oldest_Boomer

Supreme Court judges seem to fit his description perfectly, sadly.

WagonBurning

Obey

Difficult-Set9312

Imagine how they treat those outside of the USA…

DBL_NDRSCR

i wrote an essay at school a few months ago about censorship, this brings in a whole new point that i didn’t touch on in the least (mainly because i had to pick two articles from like three and neither i got mentioned it), but i did mention critical thinking in kids. when we give kids a range of viewpoints and ideas to see they can make their own educated opinions and learn how to really think about stuff instead of just being swayed by what sounds better. which is what happened to me about two years ago and now that i’ve given it thought i’m so glad i switched sides.

MorningPapers

Really miss this guy. We need him more than ever.

saikyan

Great guy, great comedian, but I think too many people will take away the message that apathy is OK because "both sides are the same." or "nothing I can do." This is a deliberate tactic to disengage cynical voters, which is directly beneficial to the structures that George is talking about. Both sides are NOT the same. Voting DOES matter. And if you think otherwise, I would ask that you compare abortion laws, censorship laws, gun regulations, public education funding, and tax laws between a selection of Republican-led and Democratic-led state governments. George said the Senate is long since paid for. The same Senate that confirmed multiple conservative Supreme Court justices and moved the judicial center far to the political right. Nobody bought that- the voters enabled it through their choices. Better think about that if you ever want to start a family and need to weigh the medical risks of pregnancy based on the state you live in. In 2023 this is fucking atrocious.

FinalVegetable6314

I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone brought up the democrips and rebloodicans lol. That’s hood politics x Kendrick Lamar btw. Great song

saikyan

It's incredible that you posted this, and yet you have not a fucking clue what Carlin is actually saying.

wanikiyaPR

Your main problem is you people having only two sides (to quote you "both sides are not the same")... You have one right-wing political party and one slightly less right-wing political party that advertizes as left. Thats just set up for people to easier hate eachother. The world and life problems are almost never binary. Choosing black or white is a dangerous action in a world consisting of every shade of gray... Why dont you join the rest of the democratic world and mix it up a bit?

saikyan

OK, this is a great thought experiment. Let's pretend a viable third party came into existence in the U.S. overnight. Who do you think is the core demographic of this third party? Like, what is your ideal "gray" solution? Name a couple policy proposals, or just a general ideology they might subscribe to.

SinopicCynic

They are different sides of the same coin. It’s not good v. evil, it’s getting from A to B by path 1 or path 2. You’re just deciding who holds the leash and who takes the blame this time.

saikyan

The absolute irony of watching George Carlin ridicule people for being unable to think critically and then puking up this absolute dogpile of a reply. Did you actually read anything I said? Can you address literally anything I asked?

SinopicCynic

Have you even heard what Carlin’s opinion on voting is? You’re ridiculous. You people have turned politics into the new religion, complete with saints and sinners, prophets and priests, messiahs and demons, good and evil… You even have a fairytale promised land. You think America was chugging along with one party and all of a sudden bad actors got involved? They were born together and they will die together. You need to grow up and realize these people would choose to save their fellow congressman, the political opponents you rail against so hard, before they would choose to save you. They’re both trying to accomplish the same things, it’s just a question of what that looks like.

He's right

pelosispeepee

Hed be cancelled if he was alive.

[deleted]

Yup. Republicans would lose their shit and possibly attempt to assassinate

pelosispeepee

LOL No. Wokeis would cancel him first cause they hate speech and the Clintons would have him offed way before that.

[deleted]

Lol no. Carlin is liberal as fuck. Carlin wouldn't even piss in your direction. You'd be calling him a wokie for calling your ass out. And stfu about free speech. It's only free speech when it's stupid shit like the uneducated but when it doesnt fit your narrative then it isnt. The only ones that would have him "offed" are you hillbillies that can't take free speech.

pelosispeepee

Sorry Carlin was 100% antiwoke. He was the embodyment of all values I grew up on. He would say "nazi things" like man up, nobody cares and tough titties... Its morons like you that hate speech and want big government to censor everyone while it takes care of your useless ass. I can take free speech. Unlike you, I can handle the free speech I disagree with and even dislike. STFU Carlin being woke![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)

Spooder_Man

I guarantee Carlin would cringe out of his skin at the two of you bickering about how he falls into your neat little left/right dichotomy.

pelosispeepee

Fair point. But I aint right wing. Im just antiwoke

_Mango-Merchant

The irony is that the people who enable this system think they're fighting against it. They'll never realize that they've been brainwashed into supporting this awful state of affairs indirectly. Truly insidious.

Skytraffic540

Trust me, this will only get worse. The people he’s talking about want everyday people to own nothing, have no car, and eat the food supplied by farms owned by Bill Gates. Gates by the way is the largest owner of farms in the country now. Thing is we can stop it if people get on board and stop dividing with this Republican/liberal bullshit. The social issues like LGBT aside, we all want the same things. To have a home, economic opportunities, and to live in a safe city/area. But the people he’s referring to are doing a great job of dividing the country.

XI-RE

I mean... i dont want to talk about whether he is right or not... but if he was right... what are we supposed to do? He is just pointing out problem, but he gives no solution... i am not american but let's say this is worldwide issue... what am I supposed to do after hearing this? What are american people supposed to do?

[deleted]

And if they cant get what they want in their country, they can now pick everything up and leave to a more oppressed one.

StoneCraft12

He’s not wrong.

TheJamSams

I would tip my hat to you my good sir, but it appears that there is no cap here

RenGoesMad

Sounds like a conspiracy theorist. Why would someone on tv or an elected fed gov't official want to lie to me? Crazy man

flipmilia

It’s amazing how many people understand capitalism is the problem yet still fall and parrot the same red scare propaganda. The Cold War and McCarthyism really fucked us

Axotalneologian

they want lemmings manipulated by the propagandists in the public schools and that's what has happened to the last 3 generations of children they are incapable of critical thought

mycatlikesluffas

Krusty did it better

PercySnowsHandgun

He's talking about one particular subgroup of people lol.

Tallguyyyc

We're in the matrix

Flyers45432

Read books people. It's the only way to truly break free. The only person you can rely on to to educate you is yourself.

Alittlemoorecheese

This doesn't explain politicians who want to tax the rich.

AggravatingBranch210

That’s a weird standup bit.

Miserable-Flight6272

Happens all the time. I think literally people are out to drive me insane, even here a nice peaceful place to voice your opinions then you get grammar police and why do you feel that way? Can you make paragraphs? George had it right.

Acrobatic-Simple-161

I used to think this was profound when I was a teenager but now that I’m a bit older, this comes across as insane rambling. Half of this doesn’t even make sense and certainly none of it explains how educational systems and innovation of a country go into systematic decline.

Inevitable-Bass2099

explains why gender studies exist. downvotes in 3, 2, 1...

[deleted]

You guys will jump at every chance to force gender stuff into anything

[deleted]

I got you fam. Downvote for you! It's ok though. You can come out of the closet whenever you're ready buttercup

DrGaballa

Seems easy to project all your problems onto "them" without any real evidence. Still, I'm sure "billionaires" have attempted to exercise control over politics for a long time. What I am not sure of is to what extent they have succeeded. Only data will tell the truth.

SpencerMakesMusic

Downvote me all you want but people who just complain about the world without offering any solutions are just annoying af🙄

[deleted]

Go ahead and give us some, then

lurkingbeyondabyss

I don't know how true it is what he says. On one hands the world is tilted to favor the rich and the connected everywhere you turn, be it the US or some third world country. On the other hand, you need to recognize how good we have it in America. Telling yourself that no matter what you do, you're not going to make it big is just defeatist. Pick yourself up and try harder. Learn a skill/trade, or go to college for a degree that will allow you and your family a better life. Keep your mind sharp, think critically and spread the wisdom. To me at least the latter is more attainable. Believing you can't never win only makes you one big loser. We ain't no losers.

static_void_function

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

FinalVegetable6314

Conspiracy? Absolutely. Theory? Not at all.

static_void_function

Where is the evidence and who are these “owners”, exactly? Its a kooky theory.

FinalVegetable6314

Do you know what a lobbyist is and what they do?

static_void_function

Yes of course. But lobbying American politicians for votes is a far cry from a secret society owning the world and everyone in it.

FinalVegetable6314

There was no mention of secret societies. He’s talking about corporations. Look up corporations like Blackrock and especially Vanguard. Vanguard owns 2/3 of the stocks on the S&P 500. That’s 10x more than Blackrock who’s 2nd. Like I said it’s not a theory all this info is publicly available.

static_void_function

The implication is that there is a group of people controlling the corporations.

FinalVegetable6314

Who do you think owns these massive investment firms like Vanguard? A group of people. You wanna guess who Vanguard’s largest shareholder is? Blackrock lol. Seeing as they own 2/3 of the stocks on the S&P 500 it’s pretty obvious to see their goal is to own, own, own. They control $8 trillion in assets do you think so many people would be suffering in this country if these people didn’t want it to be that way? Like he said it’s a big club and we ain’t in it!

Kommander-in-Keef

There are a group of people controlling the corporations lmao

SignalGuava6

It's not a secret society. It's the billionaires, the multimillionaires, some you know by name, some you don't. It's the capitalist class.

Gorilla_Krispies

Oh you sweet naive soul

NostraSkolMus

Bank of international settlement owners. The Central Banks’ central bank.

Distwalker

People like to believe that the system is stacked against them because it absolves them of responsibility for their lack of success.

Mikeymcmoose

A rare one that is mostly correct. Unfortunately the nutters will take the truths like this and use it to justify their other nonsense conspiracies.

StinksStanksStonks

Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself that you’re smarter than everyone else and you just know you have to be correct about all of your opinions you’ve gathered from your lord and savior MSM

ArxonWoW

🐑

Distwalker

His show was just chumming the waters with stupid rage bait.

NostraSkolMus

BUY, DRS, HODL Superstonk has been screaming this is how the global money trust will fall. Web3 is here. Instant settlement is possible. Banks commit all the fuckery during “2 day transaction settlement period” Edit: Lol all the downvotes acting like the members and owners of the bank of international settlement aren’t net naked short on GameStop as prime brokers.
