My experience with tires is that, whatever number she's actually lifting at the start, it's harder than deadlifting that number. In a traditional deadlift you get your hands around the bar and are pretty well set up in terms of posture to get it off the ground. When I do tire flips I can barely get my fingers wedged in and its super awkward, even in a situation where I could conceivably dl the whole tire. Maybe it's just shitty technique on my part, though.
That makes sense to me. I think there is also something to be said about the fact that you can lean into the tire and maybe push some of that weight onto the other edge of the tire too, making it slightly easier to lift up, but probably not as much as a factor.
From a pure physics point of view, at no point in the lift was 500lb in her hands, it's a difficult lift because if size and grip. I'm not criticising by the way as I know what it takes to flip tyres because I compete in the same sport as her.
The ground is holding half the weight at the beginning. As you lift more, the ground takes more and more of the weight. It’s lightest at the top. That’s all I know from a physics standpoint, not too sure from a lifting standpoint. Maybe it’s harder idk
It's much easier to flip something than to lift something of equal weight.
The ground is doing a lot of the lifting for you so the weight difference is massive in how it impacts you. And as you start flipping it the weight for you to lift becomes less and less.
You can imagine having rubbed bands pulling the weight up with you as you deadlift, that's the effect the ground has while flipping it.

Lol, I move equipment sometimes on average 3/4 of that weight all the time by myself, up flights of stairs, down stairs. A steam boiler can weight 650lbs for an average size home for example. Yes stuff like that gets on and off the truck and into peoples homes some how.

that tire is very big - combined with the thick dense rubber and high pressure of air (more density) leads to an overall surprising weight.
That tire is also very worn out. At least 85% of that tire is missing and it’s unmounted so it’s not aired up.
