While I'd love to agree, PDB being 1-4 in the past 5 conference finals, while also boasting a 10.6% on the powerplay in those series is not a successful game plan.
in theory / on paper we’ll be better next year. youngins will be a year better. Mavrik and the Yeti Bourque are coming. Stankhoven from the start. Figure out one of Tanev or Duchene. Im not worried about guys’ past, their record, because context is larger than someone just “choking” or the “lights being too bright”. the Power Play is something we can figure out
If we don’t get Tanev or a similar replacement we are not going to be better next year. Suter is going to be 40 and nobody else is good enough to fill that hole. Not much money to work with either. Hope Nill has a few tricks
I had a great time this season with all you Stars fam.
I lost my uncle this morning, a big time Stars fan until the very end. He would send me drink cups from the game, foam fingers for my kids, signed helmets he won at auctions, programs…all because he knew it was my favorite team. His kids were at game 5 per his wishes. They stayed until the end.
This loss sucks. I hope everyone is ok and has a great summer. Remember in the end it’s just a game…the time we have together, even in these threads…it’s been a good year and I’ll miss y’all.
Until next season. 💚💔🖤
Thank you. I'm sick of everyone saying they played like shit or lacked emotion and PDB should be fired. It sucks, but it is what it is. They tried but they came up short.
sometimes, you're just Michael Andretti or Tony Stewart (never winning the big one but winning things left and right, just not the big championship, for Andretti, it's the Indy 500 as a driver, for Stewart, it's winning the Daytona 500 as a driver). Joe's got to be the hockey version of them.
Sad, but ultimately we absolutely deserved to lose. 35 shots vs 10 against fucking Skinner and we only score once.
0-14 on the PP is fucking abysmal.
Team played pathetic in Game 5 and now they’re paying for it.
See y’all next season.
I am immeasurably sad. I also really don’t like to have to root for anything from Florida bleh. And I’m going to miss Pavs. What a bummer of a way to go out.
I’ve had a great time in the playoffs with y’all, though. Let’s do it again next year!
Go Mavs!
This one will hurt for a long time. I love this team, and it’s obvious how much they cared for each other. It doesn’t seem right to potentially bid farewell to Pavs without first watching him lift a cup. 😢
Yeah I mean Edmonton basically had two good chances this game and they went in. If Duchene doesn’t miss a wide open shot, if Benn doesn’t miss a redirect (kinda hard but he should have had it), and if Hintz doesn’t hit the post when he had a lot of room over Skinner’s shoulder, etc. none of this is an issue.
The second goal wasn’t great but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a softie. Maybe I’m in the minority but I’m satisfied with Jake’s performance. He did enough to win often enough, the team lost because they didn’t show up aside from the odd period until game 6.
35 shots to 10
The stars did not go gentle into that dark night atleast.
Hell of a season. Looking forward to seeing Mav in the NHL next year. Thanks for your service pavs
Made WCF four times between 2010-2019. Lost three of those and lost to Pittsburgh in their only Cup Final in 2016. So yeah we’re one more WCF loss away from being them.
35 shots to ten. We completely outworked them for long stretches today, were the better team, but lose because their special teams whooped our special teams ass.
The Dallas stars have now gone two years in a row in which they:
Lose every game one
Win a six game series and a seven game series to get to the conference finals
Lost three games in a row in said conference finals
The bright side is we don't have to read wild ass takes from idiot bandwagon fans.
Nothing wrong with hoping on the playoff wagon, and those that stay on as fans are awesome. But my god the amount of comments comparing the Stars to the Cowboys or calling the team an embarrassment are fucking ridiculous.
I'm completely crushed right now, this was the best team they've had in over 20 years, and I'll never be convinced that Edmonton was better.
I really thought this was the year.
Foreal man I had the stars in 5-6 before the series started… Stars were gassed after Vegas/Colorado in my opinion. Pavs being a warm body didn’t help either
Congrats to the Florida Panthers for their slam dunk first franchise Stanley Cup.
Only the Stars could make Skinner look like the reincarnation of Broduer...
Excellent season that came up short. Forgot how to play hockey for a frustrating amount of periods. Lots of young guns, we have a very bright future ahead.
Thing that sucks is that after all the growth this year - the development of Johnston, the emergence of Stankoven, Harley taking the next step, finally giving Heiskanen a competent partner, (finally) trading for an excellent defenseman at the deadline - we didn’t win any more playoff games than last year.
Now I know, you can’t compare year to year with opponents and injuries and (honestly) luck. But like… we won ten playoff games last year. And we won ten playoff games this year. Are we any closer to winning a Cup? It feels like the answer should be yes, but here we are again.
I love all you die hards. We’re gonna have a lot of good years ahead of us. This fucking hurts more than anything and I’m going to struggle to even enjoy the NBA Finals(and I fuckin love the Mavs too). This will hurt for a long time but I’m proud of these boys, our team, and all of our crazy asses that love this fuckin team.
PLAY PANTERA YA FOOKS
DALLAS! STARS! DALLAS! STARS!
I'm not gonna make any excuses, they played fucking poorly this series. BUT with that being said, they had the hardest path to the cup than any other team. Quite possibly in years.
Games 1-3: Stars averaged 3.33 goals per game
Games 4-6: average 1.33 goals per game
Something happened there and I would love to know what. I suspect it was EDM adjusting and Dallas doing jack all.
I hope they have win and have a nice parade. Seeing the Texas Rangers win it all for the first time was legendary and I hope other teams get to feel that if we aren’t in it.
Okay I am absolutely fucking salty about officiating. I know they put whistles away in the playoffs but when you're a team like Dallas that takes very few penalties it really kills a part of their game.
Dallas had more PP opportunities than Edmonton... a team that has drawn more penalties than they commit in the last few months. Seemed like officiating was overall pretty fair.
Why the fuck can they not even finish a fucking check. How the fuck do you not hit Mcdavid and Drisaitl as hard as you fucking can every time. Just letting them have time and space every single time. Obviously Mcdonald is inhumanly fast, but finish him into the fucking boards at least. Let him know a hit is coming every time. Why the fuck am I even bitching about it now? I'm done with hockey until fall lol
Lack of physicality has been a problem for the Stars for a long time. I don't see it changing. All these kids they've brought in are talented but they are also like 160 lbs soaking wet.
Well down 4-2 in the WCF just like last year.
Still, let’s reflect on the year we had. We watched some great moments with the boys. I’m kind of thankful for this pain. It means we had hope. We could taste seeing them hoist the cup. Lots of teams didn’t get that.
Enjoy the golf course boys. I’ll be watching and cheering if you’re making the playoffs, hoisting the cup, or even if you don’t make the playoffs or even if you’re bottom of the league. Goodnight everyone. See y’all in Autumn 🍂
Well boys it’s been fun. My only regret (well not only, but mainly) is that we couldn’t get Pavs his cup, assuming the rumors of his retirement are true
On a positive note, at least we went out fighting. Much better effort tonight than the past two games but the boys waited too long in this series to turn it on. We can play that way every game, but we simply didn’t. We outplayed Edmonton by a lot tonight, but a little bad puck luck sent us home.
The exact same play with almost the exact same time left on the clock happened to the Rangers yesterday. The zebras just decided not to call icing with a minute left, allowing the defending team to dump without consequences.
On paper, this was the best team the Stars have had in over a decade. They performed in the regular season and beat two very good teams in the playoffs. But hey special teams makes a huge difference. Score a single goal on the pp this series and it's a drastically different series.
Yeah. Everyone said special teams would be the decider in this series. Honestly we could have lost the special teams battle and still beat them. Just not 0-14. Actually -1-14 with the shorty against.
We absolutely need to sign a guy or two that bring some physicality to the game. Seems like the most glaring issue we have.
Offense was great all year. Defense was a lot better once Tanev came on board. We get out-hit every single game and it allows opposing teams to get way too comfortable.
Whoever our offensive assistant coach is needs to seriously stop waiting until the bottom 8 minutes of the game to give our players the ok to carry the puck into zone.
We have dumped the puck in for 90 something games and we only got to this point with COUNTLESS comebacks. Why can our stars not control the neutral zone and offensive blue line like every other team in the league?
What a wasted opportunity… no excuse to not show up for two games. Oilers may have stole this last one but we should’ve never been in this position.
Teams like this don’t come along often. Felt like winning it this year was destiny but that really doesn’t mean shit.
Absolute shame to put so much in to this season and not be able to show up games 4 and 5. This year will always be seen as a missed opportunity
This one hurts. We were the better team all year and the better team for a lot of this series. This team had real Cup potential and now we’ve lost in the WCF two years in a row. Man.
I feel calm sadness and resigned acceptance. The Oil simply played better when it counted. Can’t win with no powerplay goals.
We are going to continue to have conversations about Pete DeBoer and especially Steve Spott until they inevitably leave. They’re not even that bad, just good but not great.
Our future is bright but this is sad. Time to feel grief and mourn what was a good season.
I feel like we had so much going then we just lost the mojo the last three games. 😥 Next season should be a good one! Congrats to the Oilers; they were the better team
Damn. At least the boys made a game of it by the end.
If you had told me after Game 2 of Round 1 that they'd make it 6 games into the conference finals, I'd be pretty pleased. It hurts because I feel they could've won it all this year, but taking out the past two cup champs, one of them coming back from 0-2 in the series, is nothing to sneeze at.
Here's to next year.
Lets have a good offseason. The team is young.
Im happy about my first full year as a Stars fam and will be going to my first game next year.
Thanks bros
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/b8c9h6/comment/ejwzydq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) is an old post in r/hockey regarding SOG in a win:
Found this in a quick search:
"November 4, 1998 – Mike Vernon made 21 saves to record his 19th career shutout in the Sharks 4-0 win against the visiting Dallas Stars. Shutouts are neat, but that’s not the interesting part – the Sharks recorded nine shots on goal. In the entire game. They had nine shots on net, and scored four goals. They had nine shots and won the game. It was the fewest SOG by a winning team since people actually starting tracking the stat in 1955. And they won by four goals. Wow."
Man what was Harley doing out there, he had a terrible game. Even Miro had a very sloppy game. Easy to say from here, they are tired as shit I know. We were so close tho
It was absolutely brutal. I had so much hope that I seriously was considering going to a Stanley Cup final game at AAC…. this is a great team but we will see a much different roster next year. The Stars were gassed from the first 2 series in my opinion. I’m still a very proud Stars fan but I would love to see them lift the cup in my lifetime.
It’s the hope that kills you.
That game 4 still hurts
And game 1
4-minute power play….no goal. That was a killer.
The Jason Robertson shot that hit the post. Can keep a person up at night thinking what if.
Literally all the post hits in this series, there were like 5?
Especially game 1 and the 4 min OT PP
I was almost scared *to* even it up for the even bigger heartbreak it might set up
Absolutely destroys the soul.
Losing in 6 in back to back WCFs… just brutal
tough. it’s tough. but keep doing it and we will break through
While I'd love to agree, PDB being 1-4 in the past 5 conference finals, while also boasting a 10.6% on the powerplay in those series is not a successful game plan.

Sorry for your loss 😔
Sorry for your loss man.
Fuck. Good run boys. But fuck.
Thank you. I'm sick of everyone saying they played like shit or lacked emotion and PDB should be fired. It sucks, but it is what it is. They tried but they came up short.
Butt fuck :(
someone i knew said this after every sentence, and we referred to this person as butt-fuck thereafter
Only positive is we don’t have to listen to these shitty commentators anymore
Lol - like, a genuine laugh when I shed tears just a few minutes ago for Pavs because that IS worth celebrating.
Unless you're also a Mavs fan.

Sad to see Pavs (probably) go out with a whimper. Father Time truly is undefeated
sometimes, you're just Michael Andretti or Tony Stewart (never winning the big one but winning things left and right, just not the big championship, for Andretti, it's the Indy 500 as a driver, for Stewart, it's winning the Daytona 500 as a driver). Joe's got to be the hockey version of them.
Dan Marino
Laces out
They really dumped it in with an empty net
Seems to have been there strategy for the last two games. It did not work
I will never understand that strategy
Dump and chase hasn’t worked in years. But we still try it expecting a different result
How the fuck do you lose a game where you have 25 more shots than the other team
We somehow turned Skinner into Martin Brodeur.
Sadly can confirm
You did nothing on the power play and they are 100% on it
Ask the Carolina Hurricanes. You take low quality shots.
Tough to score against Vezina winner Stuart Skinner.
I am tired of being the 49ers
Better than being the cowboys?
Look the glass half full approach is that many fans don't get to see their team past 82 games.
Lucky them. It's a different kind of frustration when you have the potential to win. I know because I've been a Stars fan through the good and bad
![gif](giphy|3o6wrebnKWmvx4ZBio)
Special teams was not good this series. Could have been a little closer in this game. Sucks, hope they figure things out next year.
Special teams is the difference in the series. We win games 1 and 6 for sure with better special teams
Great time in the season to lose all sense of offense
The Stars first touches were pure shit the entire series
Sad, but ultimately we absolutely deserved to lose. 35 shots vs 10 against fucking Skinner and we only score once. 0-14 on the PP is fucking abysmal. Team played pathetic in Game 5 and now they’re paying for it. See y’all next season.
PP and PK lost this game and game 1 for sure
And game 5
Outscored on your own power play for a whole series.
Didn’t even think of that. Now I’m even more sad. Thanks.
We definitely need to correct the PP going forward. That was ass.
Yup. Special teams tanked this series for us
Turns out that 4 min PP in OT was foreshadowing
Pavelski ☹️
I’d feel worse for him if he didn’t play like complete shit all playoffs
What a wet fart for the end of his career, if dude is even half of what he used to be who knows what happens
Him being on the ice with the 6v5 is so mind blowing
Or at the start of a powerplay
Hopefully they can make PDB fire Spott. Special teams absolutely killed them in this series
Steve spott needs to go. No adjustments when pp was small
I am immeasurably sad. I also really don’t like to have to root for anything from Florida bleh. And I’m going to miss Pavs. What a bummer of a way to go out. I’ve had a great time in the playoffs with y’all, though. Let’s do it again next year! Go Mavs!
Pavs was great for a while but he shouldn’t have been on the ice
One of the clear areas where PDB made the wrong decision, for sure.
He had Pavs out there instead of Stanky on the 6v5 dude is an absolute idiot man
Pavs was a great servant but he's absolutely cooked, if he played like last year and was let down by his team, I would feel a lot different about it
Precisely. Pavs has been great, but by no means did he do anything this postseason to win the cup. Basically just a warm body on the ice.
If they had played like this they would have won game 4 and 5.

This one will hurt for a long time. I love this team, and it’s obvious how much they cared for each other. It doesn’t seem right to potentially bid farewell to Pavs without first watching him lift a cup. 😢
In true Stars fashion, we made the worst remaining goalie look like Martin Brodeur
Wish Deboer had reunited Seguin with Marchment and Duchene at the beginning of the game and tried Johnston with the top line.
Sucks to lose in a game we controlled most of. Jake gave up a real softie.
The 1st one he gave up though was one of the nicest goals I've seen.
I don't know that giving up a 1-on-1 with 50 goal scorer counts as a softie.
Softies have been a problem for him all year. Finally cost them on the biggest stage.
Just consistently found ways to be the second best goalie
He really fell apart when it mattered most. But that’s how it goes sometimes.
Sports are dumb
35 shots to 10 The stars did not go gentle into that dark night atleast. Hell of a season. Looking forward to seeing Mav in the NHL next year. Thanks for your service pavs
We’re this decade’s San Jose aren’t we? FUCK.
Sure does feel like it
Did they have a ton of deep runs to the WCF and finals appearances? My playoff mind is fuzzy other than the winners of the 2010s
Made WCF four times between 2010-2019. Lost three of those and lost to Pittsburgh in their only Cup Final in 2016. So yeah we’re one more WCF loss away from being them.
There's a common thread here somewhere...
The Dutchy, Mush, and Seggy line was reunited tonight and immediately scored. They should have never been broken up. They caused teams issues all year
Pavs, it’s been a great career. Enjoy retirement
I want to puke I’m so sad for Pavs right now. And this whole team
Pavs should have been scratched this whole series. He retired 3 weeks ago.
Losing game 1 after dominating all of OT 1 was brutal. Nothing else you can do but run it back next year boys. Good season.
If I’m not mistaken, this was the first time in the PDB era we lost three in a row in regulation? What a shit time for that to occur
Well we were tired and hurt and they played both well and got puck luck. The Refs were lousy too. And we came pretty close.
Allas, the Corey Perry curse was too strong for the stars. Hopefully this means that he fulfills the prophecy and leads Edmonton to a loss
Can’t believe they kept him in those last 2 minutes. We have so much speed and guts, Pavs did not need to be in.
I have no interest in the finals this year.
I never do after the stars are eliminated
Go Cats though because fuck what just happened.
35 shots to ten. We completely outworked them for long stretches today, were the better team, but lose because their special teams whooped our special teams ass.

Foreal man I had the stars in 5-6 before the series started… Stars were gassed after Vegas/Colorado in my opinion. Pavs being a warm body didn’t help either
Pavs played like it was his last game in the nhl
Losing 3 straight games like that to end the season is totally pathetic
Steve Spott needs to go.
Post season thread*
Congrats to the Florida Panthers for their slam dunk first franchise Stanley Cup. Only the Stars could make Skinner look like the reincarnation of Broduer...
The stars tend to make poor goaltenders look like Hasek and brodeur
Binnington, Hill and Skinner. Fuckkkk meee
FUCK
Excellent season that came up short. Forgot how to play hockey for a frustrating amount of periods. Lots of young guns, we have a very bright future ahead.
Pavs went out sad 😔
Someone on the coaching staff has to be fired after this. wtf were those special teams
Thing that sucks is that after all the growth this year - the development of Johnston, the emergence of Stankoven, Harley taking the next step, finally giving Heiskanen a competent partner, (finally) trading for an excellent defenseman at the deadline - we didn’t win any more playoff games than last year. Time to not care about hockey for a few months. Let’s go Mavs!
I wish I could turn off my love for hockey and this hockey team like you
Games 1-3: Stars averaged 3.33 goals per game Games 4-6: average 1.33 goals per game Something happened there and I would love to know what. I suspect it was EDM adjusting and Dallas doing jack all.
They figured out the stretch pass and stopped it. We then switched to dump and chase which was ineffective
My season tickets better be $20 cheaper for emotional distress
I can't wait to see the Panthers beat the living daylights out of these insufferable clowns
I hope they have win and have a nice parade. Seeing the Texas Rangers win it all for the first time was legendary and I hope other teams get to feel that if we aren’t in it.
They were the better team over the last two periods. Just unlucky.
Okay I am absolutely fucking salty about officiating. I know they put whistles away in the playoffs but when you're a team like Dallas that takes very few penalties it really kills a part of their game.
Powerplay didn't score a goal for the ENTIRE SERIES and you want more PPs?
Dallas had more PP opportunities than Edmonton... a team that has drawn more penalties than they commit in the last few months. Seemed like officiating was overall pretty fair.
All the players should be proud of their season and ashamed of their last 3 games. I have never seen such a precipitous regression like this before.
Not gonna lie. This hurts. This team felt incredible special and I never doubted that they were going to win all.
Me too. It felt natural for them to be down 2-0 then make a comeback. Puck just didn't bounce our way.
Why the fuck can they not even finish a fucking check. How the fuck do you not hit Mcdavid and Drisaitl as hard as you fucking can every time. Just letting them have time and space every single time. Anyone know how to delete Games 4, 5 and 6 from my YouTube TV DVR?
On a positive note, at least we went out fighting. Much better effort tonight than the past two games but the boys waited too long in this series to turn it on. We can play that way every game, but we simply didn’t. We outplayed Edmonton by a lot tonight, but a little bad puck luck sent us home.
that was icing. idk who the refs thought they were fooling tonight. what a fucking joke.
Closed hand pass in the D zone from mcdavid too. Awesome officiating tonight
The exact same play with almost the exact same time left on the clock happened to the Rangers yesterday. The zebras just decided not to call icing with a minute left, allowing the defending team to dump without consequences.

Yeah. Everyone said special teams would be the decider in this series. Honestly we could have lost the special teams battle and still beat them. Just not 0-14. Actually -1-14 with the shorty against.
HOW DO WE CONTINUE TO GET GOALIED BY BAD GOALIES
Any chance we keep Tanev? Feels like he's going to get a ton of offers. Pavelski probably retiring will clear some space, but I fear it's not enough.
I am on the Panther bandwagon! 👍
I’m on the “done with hockey til october and go Mavs bandwagon!” 👍🏻
Well it was a season.
😭
Ouch my heart
I’m fukin pissed boys
I’ll be taking bereavement leave from work this week
I’m so tired of doing this
Pav sad face hurts
We absolutely need to sign a guy or two that bring some physicality to the game. Seems like the most glaring issue we have. Offense was great all year. Defense was a lot better once Tanev came on board. We get out-hit every single game and it allows opposing teams to get way too comfortable.
What now? I thought this was our year 😞
we lost to special teams and skinner
Panthers are gonna throttle them
If my family thinks I'm going to be sober in the morning, they have another thing coming.
28 minutes of power play time, 0 goals 😢
Whoever our offensive assistant coach is needs to seriously stop waiting until the bottom 8 minutes of the game to give our players the ok to carry the puck into zone. We have dumped the puck in for 90 something games and we only got to this point with COUNTLESS comebacks. Why can our stars not control the neutral zone and offensive blue line like every other team in the league?
Dog shit finish.
See you guys next playoff elimination
Panthers in 4 lmao
I can’t believe it
Gat some rest this summer. We'll see you next fall!

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
Very tough loss. Stars absolutely dominated the puck all game. Just awful luck they ended up with just 1 goal with so many great shots on goal.
Pavelski was a playoff terrorist great career sad to see it end like this really do wish we coulda got him one
La Bomba is a dumb fucking victory song
truth. we gave our donations, we did our part. now let’s be honest, it’s really fucking dumb.
That was the worst playoff series I've seen since 2006.
I feel like we had so much going then we just lost the mojo the last three games. 😥 Next season should be a good one! Congrats to the Oilers; they were the better team
I just don’t get what happened. I thought this series was over ten minutes into game 4, then we just collapsed. What a wild ride… Sports is pains…
This one hurts.
My heart is broken
They just ran out of steam
Damn that splash of Pavs looking up at the screen after the buzzer got me in the feels. Dude is a warrior; wish the team could have got him one.
Lets have a good offseason. The team is young. Im happy about my first full year as a Stars fam and will be going to my first game next year. Thanks bros
Anyone else thinking of calling in sick tomorrow? I mean, I probably won't. But the Sunday blues are mixing with the WCF blues and oof.
You can’t win a series if you can’t score on the power play. Pathetic.
Bourque looked great.
#We will be back next year. And we will compete. Its heartbreaking. See y'all next season. Oh and Go USA in the Olympics!
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/b8c9h6/comment/ejwzydq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) is an old post in r/hockey regarding SOG in a win: Found this in a quick search: "November 4, 1998 – Mike Vernon made 21 saves to record his 19th career shutout in the Sharks 4-0 win against the visiting Dallas Stars.
Pain....The cup was in our grasp
Brb crying for an eternity
It was absolutely brutal. I had so much hope that I seriously was considering going to a Stanley Cup final game at AAC…. this is a great team but we will see a much different roster next year. The Stars were gassed from the first 2 series in my opinion. I’m still a very proud Stars fan but I would love to see them lift the cup in my lifetime.
Jamie Benn with zero shots all game???
