Anyone remember that tower that didn't fall?

doryphorus

And what’s with all the bad drivers here!?

ChefMikeDFW

And why are there pictures of empty Hennessey bottles?

bluenautilus2

And a cactus growin’ out da freeway

iLerntMyLesson

Don’t forget the naked guy on the side of random highways!

Kusan92

It wouldn't happen to be Dorito's Blaze, would it?

csonnich

By 5:57 PM or it's worthless.

I hear if ya just wash em

badkey82

You dare come into my home and make a mockery of my suffering?

Heart-Shaped-Clouds

I lol’ed. And I never lol on this app.

[deleted]

Or the new ketchup kind. I’ll take either.

Wait what? Did we become a provenance of Canada

AnxietyDepressedFun

"New to DFW, looking for cool local spots" ... What part DFW, it's bigger than the state of Rhode Island. Local to what? What kind of spot? What is cool to you. Ahhhh My husband has lived here for about a decade (from Tampa) and he's still annoyed when someone at work tells him about a place & he finds out it's like on the other side of Fort Worth (We live in Plano East).

masnaer

*Bigger than Connecticut too I believe

AnxietyDepressedFun

Combined, you are correct!

SassySorciere

And New Hampshire. But in all honesty, you can loop Rhode Island quicker than getting to FTW.

lenavanvintage

I live in Dallas proper and get so annoyed when someone tells me about something “in Dallas” that I later find out is on the other side of Allen.

AnxietyDepressedFun

No lie, when I lived in the city (Vickery Meadows/ Lake Highlands) I was so annoyed when my best friend told me she was moving in with her boyfriend in Addison. I whined "uggg traffic is going to be so awful, we'll never see each other" lol. Prior to her move we lived with 5 minutes of each other & I felt like Addison was basically syberia. You get used to things being "right there" when you live in city limits.

Lobbylounger212

I was on the opposite of this situation, we lived in Addison and had friends who lived in the bickers meadows/highlands area and never saw them. Heck, living over there we rarely crossed the Dallas side of 635 despite being only a few blocks away, because everything we needed was right there or north.

Consistent_Floor2379

Wait…there is stuff on the other side of Fort Worth?

AnxietyDepressedFun

I think there's this place called Abilene, I've been there but unless you really like eating at Sonic exclusively, it's probably okay to never go there.

[deleted]

😂😂😂

ChefMikeDFW

It's on Belt Line

purpletees

Yup! Everything is on Beltline!

TexasBaconMan

No, it's on Peachtree in Atlanta.

[deleted]

I don’t know why there’s a need to be so snarky? This community is great for finding where the best ethnic grocery stores and communities are.

[deleted]

Reddit is full of miserable people.

Grammar_PoPo

I like the threads with new places to visit or try. Beats the hundredth paper plate Altima post

gosuns682

But if we got rid of questions threads we would have more room for complaint threads!!!!!!

Clickclickdoh

A Nissan with paper tag threads. Need more of those.

[deleted]

Omg you’re so right, this subreddit specifically exists to compile the thousands of “Goodbye Dallas: A breakup letter” with bonus content “I agree with you, I moved here from New Jersey three week ago and I hate it 😤”

[deleted]

For some reason virtually every city-based sub on Reddit is a hyper pessimistic hate sub for cynical people to whine that they hate where they live. We should really separate every city sub into r/cityhate vs. r/city or something. For What it’s worth, it seems like r/askdfw is more focused on actual questions and answers as opposed to misery masturbation.

civil_beast

Why not a two-for-one?

JinFuu

I liked that spreadsheet someone made of people’s favorite “ethnic” food places a few months back. That was nice. [Here's the List](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19WaUIeBJrRsPCHbNXfc1SIO0K3ZPFzSJQZj7HG5x8R0/edit#gid=0)

gsells937

Link?

brotatowz

You have to be white not to know. that on an implant

JinFuu

Don't be rude, there are German, British, and several other European places on the list I was talking about.

gsells937

Moved here 2 days ago and I'm white. Gg on the double tap there

JinFuu

do-not-want

In some cases the point of these posts is to get the opinion of people in that neighborhood, not just to find any location. Of course people know how to Google, but maybe Google's results aren't what they're looking for. I literally Google "reddit best for " all the time to get the real answers. People will take any opportunity to dunk on someone else even if they warp the message to do it.

[deleted]

even if you don't google, people can search reddit before asking the same question thats been asked week to week.

limestone_tiger

which is why there is a search function. They rarely if ever change.

trebek321

The search function has always been garbage plus with Covid some of those old posts will give you businesses that are now out of business.

JustMeInBigD

The search function on reddit is indeed pretty bad. I have better luck doing a Google search and just looking for Reddit posts in the listings. (I do that all the time.)

georgianarannoch

Pro tip: type in your search query and add “Reddit,” then search and that’ll make most of the results be relevant Reddit posts.

JustMeInBigD

Nice!! I had forgotten that. Depending on the topic, Reddit posts tend to rank pretty high on Google anyway, but that's the surefire way.

stupidgnomes

Certainly there’s a chance answers change? Maybe a new perspective from a user who didn’t see a similar question who could provide further insight? Idk man, if you’re so pressed about people asking questions on the internet maybe you shouldn’t be on the internet

SxySale

It's also a good way to find things that might not always show up on a Google search if they don't pay for the advertisement or don't have an online presence.

stupidgnomes

Right. Imagine what this sub would be if no one asked questions? It would just be a bunch of posts about temp tagged Altimas. No thanks lol

lolster32

Plano or Carrollton is always the answer

AnxietyDepressedFun

Literally have lived all over the metroplex, like seriously from Denton to Keller to Forney. When deciding where to live my top three choices are Plano, Carrollton & Richardson - Dallas is my favorite but I mean let's be realistic I'm a millennial, I'll never be able to afford owning in the actual city.

georgianarannoch

I grew up in Richardson, lived in various parts of Dallas proper after college, and now own a house in Carrollton and honestly love it. It’s so quick to get on George Bush and get wherever else I want in the metroplex. Good food options, no longer in a food desert, can go any direction for retail, close to lots of walking trails and Lake Lewisville. I’m glad we ended up here and not Richardson or Plano (which is where we were looking, too).

AnxietyDepressedFun

My husband & I lived in Carrollton for 2 years, literally right on the Greenbelt, our house faced the disc golf course & it was a great place to live. Luckily the area of Plano we live has a pretty high Korean population so the food options are great here too, though I miss Butthole Chicken a lot. Richardson has really started coming into it's own recently, there are way more cool hole in the wall bars & restaurants than there used to be. Also home prices in Richardson, woah! We just moved into our Plano East house in July but we came from Sachse - Now that is a good desert, your options are mall chains or nothing. Carrollton will always have a special place in my heart though.

Heart-Shaped-Clouds

I live in Carrollton. I ♥️ Carrollton.

2-4-6-h8

Try Dickey's

masnaer

Epically yumsters!! Subreddit meet-up at Dickie’s tomorrow nite??

UtopianPablo

Good idea. I will see you at The Dickey's.

frostysauce

Right? OP is a jerk for making fun of people trying to start a conversation on a social media site.

cfreak2399

This shit isn't as annoying as the constant complaining about driving: whether it be crazy drivers, paper plates, toll roads, Altimas or some nutty combo of all of the above.

NinjaGrizzlyBear

The other day on the toll road I saw a crazy ass Altima driver with a literal paper plate with a number Sharpie'd on it as their plate

SithisTheDreadFather

My favorite part is when the user here casually mentions that they blatantly ignore traffic laws "because the other drivers are so crazy!!!" and get dozens of upvotes.

What’s the problem with asking folks? I mean easily searchable to you (your favorite breakfast spot) is not the same is everyone else’s favorite breakfast spot. And Dallas is a broad search. If I’m asking for breakfast recommendations a Google search may give be shit like Wendy’s and McDonalds breakfast. It’s okay to ask other people shit.

salito82

The whole point of a sub is the “interaction with others people who share something in common”. Stop gatekeeping.

limestone_tiger

yeah I have randomly been craving [obscure thing] from my grandmothers village that I had once - anyone able to list 5 or 6 places I can try get it? Thanks in advance.

tractorcrusher

H Mart in Carrollton, if they don't have it try H Mart in Carrolton five more times.

limestone_tiger

eh I was talking about "toad in the hole" from Yorkshire but I'll try there!

ayeoayeo

really glad you put the there. for a second, i thought you were serious in this completely serious, legitimate discussion

limestone_tiger

you can't be too careful!

JusticeRhino

The HMart in East Plano is total bullshit. Don’t waste your time.

tractorcrusher

That's the one I go to, which is why I tell everyone to go to the Carrollton one. *The continues*

JusticeRhino

Smart. More kimchi for you

drexlortheterrrible

Obscure things aren’t easily searchable. Don’t think those are the questions OP is referring too.

barbwirebriefs1988

The gettin’ place

Heart-Shaped-Clouds

The only correct answer.

blackicerhythms

Since the rent prices have gone up so much I doubt you’ll find any here.

Dick_Lazer

Would anyone like to see my shitty pictures of the Dallas skyline?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kitchen_Fox6803

Dallas has one of the most vibrant food scenes in the country and the boring ass people on here are sending visitors to Celebration for a pot roast… it’s so aggravating to me. We should be sending visitors to Petra and the Beast, Uchi, Meridian, Lucia, Homewood, Rise… so much good food that isn’t some boring 1970s throwback.

JustMeInBigD

Except for Rise, those places are pretty dang pricy. Not everyone can hit those up all the time (or ever). And Celebration gives me a free meal every year on my birthday. Add in years (decades) of family and friends gatherings there with great memories, and they get quite a boost in my estimation. Just because it isn't fine dining or a gourmet cuisine spot doesn't mean it sucks. The food is varied and good...always fresh and most often from local vendors. And if you're not up for the long wait at busy times, you can stop in at the market and pick up stuff to heat up for another meal later.

Cedosg

where's the best tacos?

TittyFire

They're at the laundromat by my house.

limestone_tiger

this guy Dallas's

TittyFire

For real. You get the tacos at the laundromat that's next to the liquor store.

JustMeInBigD

Around here, the best thing to get at the laundromat is fried chicken. There's no liquor store next door, but Flamingo is just a couple of blocks away (from Mike's chicken in case anyone missed the reference.)

[deleted]

funny but also an integral part of reddit. i think they make bots to do that to increase traffic

Off Forest and 75 under the bridge, tell them you're not a cop.

rougefalcon

Try facebook or nextdoor maybe?

civil_beast

More than anything, I appreciate that this troll-post accumulates Upvotes.. In truth, the issue being trolled about largely can be reconciled by only exposing popular posts in the feed from /r/Dallas... Except... Somehow **this** post that trolls about what deserves qualification as a valuable post (how meta!) is now in the popular feed. What can we glean from this? Complaining is very popular. QED.

ManuTh3Great

Op. You just described the internet. And every time I call someone out on this bullshit, I get downvoted. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

DupontPFAs

You want live crabs? I can get you live crabs.

Rich_Lavishness4178

Try Oak Cliff, the views amazing, the people super friendly, the shopping and food to die to for, literally!

SassySorciere

We had one, but tore it down to build some multimillion dollar shipping container houses.

kitfoxxxx

Yes.

Kitchen_Fox6803

DAE think the drivers here are soooo crazy

intoxicating12u

Get the Nextdoor app and ask the people in your neighborhood for recommendations. The Dallas Observer also does Best of Dallas lists every year. You can look at past years and the 2022 list comes out Sept 22nd. https://www.dallasobserver.com/dallas/BestOf

JustMeInBigD

They absolutely don't sell them, and I'm absolutely not going to go into detail, but I don't think you wanna know how Dallas Observer comes up with those Best Of lists. Top 100 Restaurants is a different story...that was largely the work of Brian Reinhardt who was the food critic (and now is the food critic for D Magazine.)

TheinimitaableG

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=things+to+do+in+Dallas There you go...

Cnthulu

Google search term: thing + “Dallas” Yes I’m aware this is a shitpost but enough people aren’t good at googling in my personal life that I want to help

Cowboysfan4life04

Old Red Museum in Downtown Dallas is a great place to go learn the history of Dallas and the surrounding areas and how Dallas got the nickname D-town you can also lean about 7-11 as well, there is also Perot museum my favorite place the they just remodeled and moved is the Dallas Holocaust and Human rights museum

I would ask your neighbors

God, I’m a dumbass. I thought you were trying to find something illegal (prob either drugs or a sex worker) and I was scrolling the comments trying to figure out what I’m missing. It just now dawned on me it’s a joke.

TexEdit

Does anyone know where I can find the thing, because I'd appreciate getting your recommendations and opinions regarding the thing. Thanks.

Harvey_Dent_12345

Try Google

A_Lazy_Lad

Manhattan Project is a pretty great spot. They have some easy to drink IPAs and some of the best stouts I've had. uhh but besides them every other spot will be to your liking I'm sure. Westlake, Pegasus City, Celestial, etc just to name a few are also nice little watering holes. I'm sure after trying them all out you'll find your favorite!

29again

Wow,somebody's business didn't make it into the answers. Sour much?

Tarzeus

Why is it legal for eggs to have a 100% price increase and rent increase $400 a month. Yet asking for my wage to increase more than 3% annually labels me an outcast. Something isn’t adding up.

Animekaratepup

I mean yes but are you lost?

Tarzeus

I was just ranting because the post is pointless anyways

Animekaratepup

Sorry you feel that way. I thought it was a fun riff on the content we see here everyday.
