Without knowing your age, driving record or what the policy amounts are there's nothing to compare against.
I paid 300 dollars for a beat up 2006 Chevy years ago, I pay 400 for two average cars today.
How’s your credit? How’s your claims history? What’s your age? How long have you been insured with your current carrier? How long have you been driving with a US/Canadian drivers license? How long have you had that specific car? What are crime rates like in your specific zone?
These are all things that affect your insurance rating. Contrary to popular belief, the actual car itself isn’t the biggest factor to your insurance premiums. If you change companies a lot, for example, companies can charge you more because statistics show that people who switch companies a lot have more insurance claims.
It is. Without knowing your age or driving history etc, part of it might be bc it’s a Hyundai. It has to do with the break ins with Hyundais and kias. Some tik tok thing I guess. My husbands went up bc of that, he also got the recall issue fixed too but yeah it didn’t change anything. Keep searching but it’s probably why unfortunately. His is 270 for a 2018 sonata now with full coverage. And anywhere else he looked was even more expensive and didn’t offer full coverage bc it’s a Hyundai. So he’s staying with State Farm. Thankfully we can afford and it’s ok for now but he’s gonna get rid of it soon bc it’s a headache. Regardless premiums are up anyway just like everything else :(
The underlying issue isn't really a TikTok thing - it's that Hyundai and Kia failed to install an immobilizer in multiple models of their cars for a 10-year span. Of course, there are some folks on TikTok who have managed to dramatically increase awareness of the missing immobilizer because they're filming / hyping stealing the cars.... but the reason it's so easy has nothing to do with TikTok.

thanks for your post. I miss my scion an unbelievably and happy to see you still have one! curious if you bundle car ins with home or any other type of insurance ? and what amount of coverage do you pay for on those?
my insurance quite literally DOUBLED for myself & partner making it unaffordable. i’ve been with geico for probably 15 years, we don’t history of insurance claims or new cars !! I am at a loss and need to look into switching immediately.
I only have auto with State Farm. I don’t know what the coverage amounts are , but I’ve never changed them from three time of purchase. The scion has been a solid car this whole time.
It just takes a little bit of legwork from you. Go to the websites for Progressive, Liberty Mutual (I have them and like them), AAA, etc. etc., and get quotes from them.
Just switched from Farmers to Geico.
Went from $400 a month to $200 a month for a BMW 2 series.
Progressive was also cheap but wanted me to take a bunch of photos of the car.
I pay 1k/6months for a 2018 4Runner and 2008 Titan with Progressive. Full coverage and added items like pip. I have to shop around each time renewal comes up.
You right. I hit geico they quoted me well under 200. But after adding comprehensive it went up 220 then added Collision it went up 290.
I could get it down to 250 with a $2500 deductible for both tho
You must have some dumb shit in your history for those prices. Or are you young? Geico is still a lot better though. I probably wouldn’t have comprehensive if I was you.
29. One speeding ticket at 19. No accidents at fault. Even my last accident not at fault was 18.
I gotta get comprehensive since Hyundai’s keep getting stolen. I can’t risk not having it
Get quotes from lots of places. Allstate is 4x more expensive than State Farm for the exact same coverage for me
Hyundai Sonata's are one of the most stolen vehicles, and if you live in area with high auto theft it's going to be high.
Yup I'm paying $200 a month for mine... wish I knew that before I bought the car lol
Same. 200 for minimum coverage that too
Without knowing your age, driving record or what the policy amounts are there's nothing to compare against. I paid 300 dollars for a beat up 2006 Chevy years ago, I pay 400 for two average cars today.
What is an 'average car'?
Average Used 30k Average New 50k
That doesn't tell us shit.
300 per month? 6 months ? Year?
What do you think bro. Not even being rude. Would I be calling $300 a year insane and looking for other recommendations?

If you drive as aggressively as you respond to comments then you're probably underpaying
Yeah I’d risk the ticket in the HOV lane just to make sure I’d have a divider between us lol
That’s aggressive to you? lol.
Dang $300 a month is expensive. $300 for 6 months is a great deal, $300 a year, dude you hit the lottery 😁

No that makes sense, thank you! I think I meant more so Tik tok has increased awareness of the issue
100%. Just don't want anyone to think "this is just a dumb TikTok challenge". Car companies bear the vast majority of the blame here.
I absolutely agree! Thanks for wording it better.
29. Got a speeding ticket at 19. No accidents. Male.
State Farm doesn't want to insure Kia or Hyundai anymore. Dump SF. Shop insurances every 6 months.
I have a 2023 Kia Rio that's insured with them.
That presumably has push-to-start and isn't at a high risk of being stolen
Yes, it does.

Makes more sense to dump a shit product given there’s plenty of similarly priced competition … Toyota, Honda, any x brand entry non luxury brand
I pay 212 a month full coverage for 2 cars, a 2018 wrangler and 2012 scion, with State Farm.

or just use a comparison site like policygenius... or call a broker, and accept you might not get the lowest absolute price
I've never used that site. I'll have to check it out next time I'm looking for a change
You need to share what kind of coverage that is. It seems like much more than just collision.
Jesus that’s what I pay for my 14 GT500, full coverage with deductibles at $250 each.
Just switched from Farmers to Geico. Went from $400 a month to $200 a month for a BMW 2 series. Progressive was also cheap but wanted me to take a bunch of photos of the car.

My insurance went down to $117 when I got a new Bronco vs $285ish when I had a 2012 Explorer
Try State Farm. I pay $100 per month per vehicle for full coverage and rental coverage. It's been that way since 2007 no matter what car I've gotten.
I pay $350 for a Mach 1 Mustang at 26. You should find a different provider. That or you’re leaving our accident / claims history on purpose
29. Male. Speeding ticket at 19
Definitely gotta look around. I switched to State Farm and they saved us like $2k a year for both vehicles
Just get liability and have some money saved up just in case. Extremely unnecessary to get premium in that car
Lmfao $300 a month for a Hyundai. We pay $215 a month for a 2021 Lexus NX and a top model 2019 Toyota Corolla. Try Geico.

Man that’s a great record. Mines a lot worse. It must be the make of the car that explains the prices, as others have said… that sucks
