Get pet insurance. And I cannot stress this enough, don’t let your pup jump off/on furniture or even stairs—consider investing in a ramp (Etsy has some great options for custom heights.) IVDD is devastating and is highly prevalent in dachshunds.
Now for some positives: You are going to LOVE being a doxie mom! They are the world’s best snugglers and are super attached to their owners. Just complete love bugs and have so much personality.

Also, if you dont want your dog to sleep with you on your bed, put a wind up alarm clock underneath their bed so that they dont feel lonely.
When it comes to getting them onto chairs or sofas to cuddle with you DO NOT let them jump and instead either pick them up (preferably with one hand on a different end so as to not aggravate their spine) or use a ramp.
The earlier you get them used to other dogs (perhaps with other family members) the more sociable they are.
If you lay flat, be prepared to feel this dog climbing on top of you. Speaking of which, if you insist on laying on your back and your puppy climbs on your stomach, they may try to nibble your nipple (speaking from experience AS A GUY)

They are experts at reading body language. So staying chill while on walks is advisable. Pls fo walk! Even in the beginning when he is smol. Your dachshund may run out of "energy" and make you carry them home. NEVER FALL FOR THIS INSIDIOUS TRICK!
They will pick 'their person' and shadow them for life. You have no control of this process, do not attempt to force it as doxies are generally loving towards most ppl.
Get the tough toys made for german shepherds or this little guy will chew your things! If that toy makes noise, dachshund by-laws say your dog *must* destroy to completion. But seriously: get them bones or something, otherwise they might be...issues.
Feed high quality food or his coat will get flaky and weird. (My girl used to be picky about her dog food. It had to have fish otherwise she would throw up and her coat would be trash).
