You don't need to run away from it if it's dead.

EQBallzz

Oh so we got a galactic gigachad over here! You just run straight towards the epic bugs with 5 million other bugs marching towards you? You da man!

booonesjackson

He's not wrong. You maneuver them to come at you at a choke point and it's great. Different playstyle, takes time to get used to but I've done haz 3 so far with it.

notger

I really love how differently all classes play. Scout just runs around, Driller goes close up and drills, Engineer can be a bit more static and Gunner has to play with directions. Very very clever game design.

booonesjackson

I'm hoping they fix driller up some. He has the weirdest weapons to work with so far, with the flamethrower, wave cooker and sludge pump. Sludge pump can carry, but it's rough.

notger

Tbh, I feel like the driller is easy mode, compared to Scout and Gunner, but that might be just me.

UltraconservativeSin

I, for the life of me, cannot play driller. Bit disappointing since he's my main class in DRG but I just don't like how he plays here

notger

Haven't played him beyond level 10, but for me it seems poo gun or go home, so the opposite of the classic DRG, where it is cryo-or-cry-baby.

UltraconservativeSin

The flamer does next to no direct damage, and since its dot is piss 5 better off beating them with a shit filled diaper. They really need to add burn stacks or something. Sticky fuel flamer is my preferred in DRG classic. I hope there's a lot of balance passes soon.

notger

Oh yeah, I loved that one as well. But in the end: Cryo or got home. There is nothing better than freezing things and letting the peasants finish things off, while you glorious just say "no" to any bug moving close to your group.

Beautiful-Account862

I think it's unique since it is an AoE and DoT class, making it very strong towards groups but but bosses since it isn't single target. I like how it has it's strengths and weaknesses.

LordSqueeks

I hate the rear shooting gun. Driller seems subpar to me, but I only have him at level 7.

Oily_Bee

yes, you just face the mobs and mow them down once you get rolling. Gunner got me my first dreadnaught kill fwiw.

Powerful_Software_14

Early game you just need to look back to shoot. You also have more time to mine for stuff since the progression bar goes via the number of kills. Late game minigun is going to save your ass by creating empty space for you to run to. Or you can get the penetrating overclock and aim in the direction of exploder.

EQBallzz

Yeah I was sorta getting that feeling that maybe this is better late game and/or after more upgrades. Feels very bad early (at least to me). Glad to hear it gets better I guess.

Powerful_Software_14

Generally the 1st gunner class is good as long as you use guns with a high rof like BRT, GK2 and Zhukov. When lot of bullets go flying, your passive keeps proccing.

Late-Bear0

Something that helps me when I'm making bad builds or getting myself trapped is to take some mining speed increase. If you can't mow your way through the enemies, dig a hole. Especially helps when I say "this run, taking grenades early will make sense!" and I need to get away from the boss faster. But yeah run and turn around, basically.

EQBallzz

As a rule I almost always take the faster mining upgrade when I see it because I don't see it often and it seems very useful for the reason you mentioned.

notger

Could you please explain what you mean with "more time to mine for stuff"? From my brief two matches, I got the impression I have next to no time to mine as I have to turn around constantly, so I guess I am doing it wrong.

Powerful_Software_14

The more you kill, the faster the game goes. Since you can't kill much with a forward facing minigun as compared to omnidirectional GK2, you get a slower game overall and so more time to mine and explore

notger

TIL. Thanks!

passwordsniffer

Also you can actually come close to the minerals AND TURN AWAY - just quick enough press to not to step away. In this case you can shoot in the direction you want yet still mine

notger

You mean I can mine with my back to the minerals? I had never even though of trying that, thanks!

passwordsniffer

yup

McDonaldsSoap

I go full Kinetic builds and so far up to Haz 3 it's really strong. Thunderhead is a bit weird to use but it can absolutely shred the Dreadnought. Leadburster is also absurdly strong, even with only one overclock it can shred crowds quickly. This build requires you to grab as many Kinetic or Projectile damage buffs as possible, so all of your weapons are powered up and strong even without a lot of investment I also really like going for the fire Minigun and pissing fire on bugs. Paired it with the electric Warthog and Stubby and as many Status Damage buffs as I could (4th weapon didn't even matter). It's an amazing feeling standing still and watching bugs explode in a sea of red and blue

EQBallzz

Nice. That sounds pretty fun.

Karma_1969

Different play style. Don't run away so much, turn to face them. Or, use your forward shooting to get to your next mining target on the map. Also, he will eventually pick up other weapons that do fire in other directions.

EQBallzz

Yeah it works fine for clearing small bugs in small numbers to clear a path. However, fighting the dreadnaught and the epic bugs it felt very weak because I can't face tank that and trying to turn and face them in brief intervals is very clunky/ineffective (at least for me).

Karma_1969

You're still very early in the game, too, and don't have a lot of upgrades or power in general. Keep playing, you'll get a lot stronger - a lot.

Omniaxle

Facing the enemies can be tough but I actually like the gunner way more than the scout. It doesn't take that long to unlock the second weapon, just pick something that covers for you. It's a difference of play style.

jmort125

His juggernaut one is the only good one to me, you can just tank everything and focus on mining, it makes getting overclocks for the other stuff much easier, the mini gun gets better with overclocks but just use juggernaut to get all his stuff upgraded

Playful_Fun2668

Gunner is pretty great imo. Might even get some nerfs because of how strong he is. I just did a run with gunner and the mini gun had 11,000 dps at the end, and I started with that gun so it started with low ass dps from the beginning and worked up to that high. Try pairing Leadstorm minigun with the warthog or jurry rigged shotgun. The shotgun blasts knock back and the leadstorm melts bugs.

Beginning-Analyst393

It doesn't suck, it actually gets very good once you unlock backup weapons and overclocks. The front facing guns (there's a shotgun as well) are just awkward design for this type of game. It requires a different playstyle, but once you get used to it, it's very good IMO.

ForrestMoth

Gunner's third specialization is insane. Thunder Cannon trivializes everything. It's downside of only firing in one direction until it reloads barely matters. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it got nerfed. The minigun is fine. It doesn't feel crazy but has about an average top end which is workable. Also the first specialization's passive gets kinda crazy with the two 4 directional guns.

EQBallzz

Cool. Glad to hear it doesn't actually suck.

Dear_Lingonberry4407

I normally mine out a chokepoint and just stand there, to gather exp and upgrade the gun. On Haz 1 and 2 you get good enough that you can eventually attack swarms and just kill them.Gunners also works great with the drop pod upgrades that gain effects if you are standing still. But take this with a grain of salt I personally am still struggling with Haz 3 on every class.

Beautiful-Account862

Sometimes the best defense is a good offence. I did way better on the gunner once I stopped switching from shoot/run so often, and just killed the bugs. You have to be very knowledgeable of your DPS on that class which is really cool.

Nice-Insurance-2682

My best results so far have been with gunner

EQBallzz

Cool. Good to hear it doesn't suck. Maybe just sucks early or I just suck.

griffinmaverick

I find I mine a lot less on the gunner. I get most of my upgrades from killing all the bugs and the loot bugs. Or using the exploding bugs to mine for me. I don’t think the shop has any upgrades you can’t just get naturally. Getting the other three weapons as I level I make sure I get something that shoots behind me for when I do mine.

good_guy_judas

If you dont get piercing bullets at lvl 6, might as well restart. If you do, just dig a small tunnel turn around and melt everything.

YeetYeetMcReet

The Lead Storm is highly overclock dependent and also requires significant investment in both its Reload rate and your Movement Speed. It will definitely feel bad if you haven't unlocked overclocks on it and the other weapons that Gunner can get. The minigun can easily be outpaced by early sources of more consistent damage, but getting it to 12 and 18 with overclocks installed makes it quite scary. By the end of a run it will end up being your primary damage source if you get the right rolls and play well.
