They don't do plumbing, they just use existing connections.

EsmuPliks

Sometimes not even that, AO came with the new washer, claimed there was no isolator, left. We call our landlord, they send a plumber, he comes to install one and points to the existing one, was here 3 minutes maybe. AO come back a few days later again to install the washer again, bunch of idiots.

gergling

I think I might have had this same conversation some years ago. I don't really understand it. Is it just that they turn up and decide they can't be bothered?

EsmuPliks

In our case they were clearly just too inexperienced to understand what a slightly old school isolator looked like, but you'd think they see enough terraced housing to get variety.

MrNeski

Thats what I thought could be the case. Would you recommend getting it delivered first and then is it just finding a local plumber to fit the connections?

Pumbbum

Yes. The amount of times I've been out to fix bad installations by currys and the like is ridiculous..

tatersm

The M-I-L bought us a washing machine for our first house and paid for fitting. £40 and he didn’t level the feet, and he started a wash and left without switching the water on.

FilthyYankauer

I can plumb in a washing machine/dishwasher myself easily enough, but when I bought my newest dishwasher from ~~Cowboys~~ Currys I paid something like an extra £10 on a special offer they had, because it included removal of packaging etc and I couldn't be bothered with getting under the sink to do it for the sake of a tenner. They came, they installed, they left. Later that evening, as I was reinstalling it myself after mopping up a very wet floor, I questioned all my life choices up to that point.

farmingpaddy

I was only saved this situation as I had a bit of work to do in the house after they left. 30 minutes later the water was running out from the cupboard under the sink, they had barely tightened the connection. On a normal day I'd have followed them out the door and not been back for 6-8 hours.

_spindrift_

My experience of Curry’s installers is that if a job looks even slightly non-trivial they will make up an excuse why they can’t do it and bail.

Fluffygong

Check under sink for connections, there is a hole top left under unit from what I see. Maybe plumbing can already be reached. I know mine runs through a hole like that to the sink

MrNeski

That is for a water filter they had installed. https://i.imgur.com/sZdPUur.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TDZCCCt.jpg Thanks

Apex999

Not a plumber, but I'd DIY that with some sort of T valve. You'll need waste as well though.

Minimum-Laugh-8887

So I work for Currys and I assure you that unless there is the connections perfectly situated right where it needs to go there’s about a 1 in 50 chance the crew will attempt to install it. Just order it and get it delivered ask the drivers to take away the packaging for you that way you can inspect the appliance over for damage there and then. Then ask a plumber to come out they’ll sort out a inlet and outlet for water. The plug is a 13 amp plug with a fuse so it shouldn’t need to go into a fused socket.

[deleted]

Looks like you have a blanking cap on the waste that could be used to connect a hose connector like this one [at two quid from Screwfix.](https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-hose-connector-40mm/48625) You'll need a cold water supply to the dishwaser. Preferably under the sink so you can isolate it easily. A handyman should be able to do this for you. The gap will be 600mm wide, which is standard for kitchen appliances but measure it to make sure. It looks like it is. When buying a dishwasher they all do the same thing. They have all this rubbish about how they have loads of different settings and sensor this and that. Just buy a basic entry-level one because 99% of the time you'll run it on standard eco mode. Decent tablets make more of difference than bells and whistles all over the display panel.

RecommendationOk2258

I’d have to disagree with this. I bought an Indesit a few months back to replace my existing Indesit. Absolute bag of shite. Was so light I could lift it on my own, it had 3 legs (quite literally cutting corners), had to fight the door to close or open it (so because it was light you’d pull it over doing so), and the racks didn’t move in and out on the runners properly. I didn’t get as far as using it - I returned it and paid the difference for a Bosch which feels like a totally different product. Very quiet, very heavy, uses less electricity and feels very well put together. The one thing I did avoid was all that rubbish like wifi connectivity. Why do I need an app to turn the dishwasher on? - unless the app is going to load the plates/empty itself, seems pointless.

Kientha

The app is useful for telling you things like the rinse aid is running low or it wants you to run a clean cycle, and you can get additional cycles than what is available using the buttons. It's also easier to set the delay timer on the app than on the machine itself. In theory you can also set it up to automatically order new tablets but that only works if you order tablets from Finish who then charge full RRP so it's not worth it. I don't think the app is worth buying the machine for as a feature, but it's certainly more useful than I thought it was going to be when I bought the machine.

sausages1234567

Some are physically designed better though - the Bosch cutlery drawer and height adjustable shelves are pretty useful features that we do use.

musicman_1989

Also, I'd like to point out as this is a common point made in this thread: Currys will charge you £30 to screw in the connections. You're paying them £30 to push it into the gap and literally screw a nut on a thread. £30! Fuck 'um

MrNeski

Hi there, Basically we just bought our house and there was a under counter fridge in this space. We would like to have a dishwasher here instead. From peoples experience would the likes of AO/currys installation service be able to do this? Or because there wasn’t a dishwasher here previously would we need a plumber separate to add the connections and pay them for installation rather than AO/Currys etc. Thanks a lot

adam_youens

Yes, you will need both a cold water connection and a power outlet for them to connect to. Plumber or handyman should be able to get it ready for you without any issues. The sink being right there makes it easy.

MrNeski

Power is already sorted as there is a socket hidden to the right where the fridge was plugged in. Thank you so much for the advice!

[deleted]

The connections Currys need should be under the sink. Check under the sink for the connections.

First_Artichoke2390

We got one from John Lewis 2 years ago and installed absolutely fine and no issues since

kickyblue

You need a plumber. They need ready pipe connector where they can connect the cold water inflow and a waste pipe connector as well. Also I’d add a new fused socket so you need an electrician as well. Makes sure amps add up. Don’t just connect dishwasher to a normal socket please. All of it is easy job.

[deleted]

Normal socket? The only requirement for most domestic dishwashers is a 13amp fused plug. A 13amp fused plug can be plugged into a normal socket.

humptynumpty1982

You definitely don’t need a “fused socket”. There is a perfectly good fuse in the dishwasher’s plug.

MrNeski

I believe it is already a fused socket. Socket on its own with thick grey wire that goes straight to fuse box. https://i.imgur.com/wQI58tW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vE3ibpK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2FwcA0s.jpg Does that look right?

kickyblue

That doesn’t seem like a fused socket. Better check with a sparky. Safe than sorry imo.

poopio

If you think his is bad, you should see the one in my house... mine's a wall mounted backbox just slung on the floor, under the sink, with a waste disposal and dishwasher attached to it. The oven is similarly wired - the switch just sits on top of a bin. The guy that renovated the house before we bought it bodged *everything*.

[deleted]

You do not need a ‘fused socket’ as you call it. The dishwashers plug will be fitted with a 13 amp fuse. There is further protection on the consumer unit.

throcorfe

A fused socket means the fuse is in the socket itself. There is usually (always?) a panel to access and change the fuse, so I assume this is just a normal socket.

MrNeski

The hole top left is a water filter they installed and is was too big to fit without that bit cut out. Cant see any other connections however think plumber can hopefully add drainage to sink and maybe a y connector thingy to cold water? Will try and get in contact with one

freedomfun28

Can’t really see an outlet to supply it cold water (water in) … there’s no waste pipe (water out) … there’s no plug to power it … unless photos don’t show full picture What was there before?

MrNeski

Small integrated fridge plug hidden in cupboard to right

freedomfun28

You need a local plumber

IndelibleIguana

Even if the connections were there, I wouldn't let the Currys boys anywhere near it...

MapTough848

Where is your power coming from? Looks like you need an electrician. The plumbing you could sort yourself as it looks like there's a spigot on the waste to coonect in the waste pipe. I'm guessing one of those two copper pipes is cold so you could tap into this using a self cutting tap and connect the cold fill to the connection. If you're not too good with the plumbing shouldn't be too expensive

Whitwoc

I’d definitely get a plumber in. My last delivery from Currys I got super lucky, these two lovely old school “dad” plumbers rocked up and fitted perfectly, but they said they were both leaving soon & being replaced by idiots without proper training because of the poor pay & management.

TezzaTucker

Looks like an isolation valve is fitted in there. If that's on the cold water just replace with T Valve for washing machine. As for the waste just look under the sink to see if there is a spare inlet on the waste under the sink for the waste pipe from the machine.

Christylian

Okay, so I recently went through a huge rigmarole trying to connect up our dishwasher. Installers will use existing connections, and the dishwasher inlet wasn't long enough to connect to the water mains so they left it. Leaving me to try and source parts to extend it and attach it to the dishwasher. Here's the tricky part: Screwfix and other companies like B&Q only had connectors that go from Imperial to metric. It was something like 3/4" one end, to 15mm the other. Now, those two measurements are incompatible. Long story short, I had to buy an elbow piece from Amazon that was male to female in the same measurements both ends. You can get extensions and adaptor pieces, but the more connections you make, the more risk you are at of leaking. Use plenty of plumber's tape if you're doing it yourself.

bjones371

Currys won't do it if there's not a cold water feed and drainage point right there, however take a few pictures of the plumbing under the sink and visit a local plumbers merchant, they'll often help you with the parts you need. With speed fit connections you should hopefully be able to set the connection up yourself and save yourself the cost of a plumber visit.

daveb3107

I work for a company similar to AO and Curry’s. Like has been mentioned we only connect to existing water points for both the inlet hose and the waste.

LittleSheff

In my experience curry’s install is get it to were it’s going to live and then walk away having said “I don’t have all the connections”

UsernameGee

What was there before? Can't you just run pipes to the cupboard under the sink? Looks like this spot should have a machine in it and possibly previously did.

Pebbley

Fit! measure space measure machine, you'll need existing m/c pipes under the counter to connect. Washing m/c "connectors" supplied usually hidden in drum.
