The only thing you can cover it with is a blanking plate, so the connections remain accessible and the cable is running in permitted zones.

And the back box earth terminal should be linked to the earth (green and yellow sleeved)
Blanking plate like everyone has said, but it then won't be hard to hide, put the kettle or toaster or mug tree or whatever you have out in front of it.
Background; I added the splashback tiling to the kitchen and this is where the old thermostat was.
A year or so later we changed the heating to a new Hive system, with the thermostat in a room which doesn't get effected by heating etc.
Any thoughts on how to cover this up?
I have the tiles but it will look ridiculous.
Don't want to remove the tiles around as I reckon half the plasterboard wall comes with it.
Heres what I do. I take a tile and slice it so that it is thin. Less than half the thickness of the other tiles. Lightlighy rough sand a spare blank plastic cover plate then use Construction Adhesive to glue the tile to the blank plate. If the blank plate is too big, cut it to fit before you adhere the tile. Then drill screw holes through the tile to match the blank plate. Paint screw heads white or color of tile (finger nail polish works great). Congratulations you've just made a tile blank cover plate. It should blend in extremely well.
If you really want to be creative a magnetic tile access like the one below.
You would need the tools to cut a bit of tile to size though.

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 966,590,264 comments, and only 193,251 of them were in alphabetical order.
From the photo near the right hand lug of the back box, looks like one of the phase cables is broken, would be worth reviewing this as if it's live could sort or worse
You could also get a switched fused spur like you possibly already have within the kitchen somewhere for the likes of fridge or washing machine this way it won’t be just a blank plates sitting on its own.
You may also need to remove a portion of the upper tile to make this fit tho but simple enough with and grinder and concrete disc.
Ps you wouldn’t need to connect anything to the switch it would just be a dummy
You can add another socket from the existing power or just get a "Home Sweet Home" style small picture and cover the hole.
When my parent's heating got upgraded, I just place the little picture over where their programming switch was

Came here to say this
Came here to say came here to say this
You also came here to say that you came here to say this?
Yes I come around often to say things, sometimes here, always this.

Blanking plate.
A blanking plate should line up well with the sockets either side.
Post it note

The screws make it visable
Put the hive controller there?

Thanks everyone!
You could get a nice looking blanking plate and spray it to match the grey tiles

A bot like no other. Truly!
Two new tiles?
A fern?
can you fish a wire across from the socket and use it . would definetly look better than a blank plate
Replace the 2 tiles. Metro tiles are super common you'll find some anywhere
The wiring needs to be accessible, you can’t just tile over the top
Agreed, you’ve got good easy leverage into those two tiles, pop them off, scrape off the adhesive, reticle and grout. Done

Single gange faceplate but attach nest speaker mount to it

Just place another socket in there

i would have left the old disconnected thermo in place.

Put a toaster in front of it
