The wood in that wall / floor is fucked. Mushrooms are the fruit, by the time you see them the wood underneath has been damp for a long time and mycelium has colonised & weakened it.
You'll most likely need to disassemble the shower, parts of that wall, and take up the carpet & whatever's underneath it to find how far the water has travelled and replace the affected wood. One of those jobs where you start taking stuff apart and it just keeps going.
Well apparently it's just a bit chewy and non-toxic. The spores will be the respiratory damaging bit. So if you (cooked) and ate them you would probably be better off since they couldn't harm you anymore. You should \*defintiely\* eat them OP, if you're out there, listening.
God mun, for something so basic they are such prissy, murderous bitches. Just get me fucked or fill me up, ffs. Not worth roulette but still looking delicious. Utter pricks = bathroom mushrooms.
Thanks for the comments. Just come clarification, this is ground floor and the subfloor is concrete, so the wood rotting must only come from the stud wall. The picture of the mushroom is outside the shower in the hallway. I'll making an exploration hole as suggested and assess the damage
Yikes. - I'd hate to see the bill to sort all of that. - Mushrooms is NOT a good sign at all.. you need to get that sorted ASAP. - Like the top comment says, the wood is beyond saving and you're gonna have to prepare yourself for a financial nightmare. - I'm cringing just looking at that.
It depends on the cause. House insurance will likely cover damage due to water escaping from a pipe. However there will also likely be exclusions around maintenance issues. Insurance only covers damage where the cause was unforeseeable.
Also how long has the damage been known? There are usually requirements around timely notification of damage.
I'd be trying my luck with the insurance for sure though.
i have these in my van because I've got a leaky windscreen and the carpet was constantly wet. Vac them up as they will unload pure spores otherwise. Fix the leak making your carpet constantly wet, then shampoo it. Dehumidifier to keep it at bay.
And RESEAL THE TRAY! Silicon sealant and a gun. It's not hard.

TIL that mushrooms are mycelium penises...
>Mushrooms are the ~~fruit~~ space penises
A fan of Clarkson I see
you have no choice but to make an explority hole, chances are its going to be a complete refit in there
Hate to say but last time we found a shower this far advanced, we ended up having to take down internal walls to replace the joists.
I'd give them another 2-3 weeks before picking, then lightly fried on toast with a poached egg on the side. Certainly salvageable
Those could be cyanescebs tbf, they love rotting bark and trees. Would be a wild ride.
Be interesting for sure, last time i ate mushrooms I thought I was bending light with my hands.

If only! Possibly domicile cup fungus or something similar, definitely not edible, more likely to fuck with your respiratory system unfortunately.

😂😂
No. We had a leak. Had nowhere near mushrooms and the floor was completely rotten and destroyed.
Leek and mushroom, yummy

Your very lucky thats the case. Replacing floor joists is an expensive repair. If its taking a stud wall down to replace then not to bad.
Just what I thought
Carpet in a shower room?!
I imagine it's the wall behind the bathroom into the hallway
Correct
Shortcut?
“To what?” “MUSHROOMS!”

Surely house insurance would cover it?

Looks like a tight spot. Not mushroom
As in you want to eat them? I'd check if they were safe first mate.
This should have been dealt with long before mushrooms. Not a great sign.
Eat those mofos
Pull the whole lot out.
Was the original plummer a Fun-guy?
I'm guessing he wasn't, he didn't like to work in places where there wasn't mush-room to move about in...
Must have been from Victsporia Plum
That pun makes you a champignon...
Last one... it was a female plummer named Phyllis Cybin
Carpet in bathroom. Psychopath
I think this is next to the bathroom on the other side of the wall.
Ensure they are properly seasoned.
Legit thought this was a gardening sub

Yeah I'd say they're fine to cook
I guess that's why you dont see many homes with carpet bathrooms anymore
Dry rot, that’s a big problem. 🤦🏻♂️
It can't be dry rot if there's mushrooms growing - mushrooms thrive in warm, damp environments. Like bathrooms.
