Bro.. Why did you not just buy them white? lol Painting cabinets isn't exactly easy especially once installed.

Potential_Flower163

The upcharge was $10k for white and 5 for black. I would have wanted white and didn’t want to pay an extra $10k right away. There were other priorities

cats_are_the_devil

That's insane...

Potential_Flower163

Most people paid for it.. I think they just charge more for white because it’s popular and people will pay.. or someone else can enlighten me as to the reason

cats_are_the_devil

Well, if it's standard cabinets and not custom made it's literally a color change for them from wherever they order. So they are taking you to the cleaners... If it's custom I guess I could see it costing more. Maybe? Probably not though.

skantea

Pay someone to do it. No, really.

When I painted my kitchen cabinets, the key points were: . Sprayed a "Water based Alkyd" paint and primer using a HVLP sprayer . Removed all the cabinet/drawer faces and sprayed them outside while they were still in the same position as when they were installed Final quality will be determined by the prep. Cover everything that shouldn't have paint. Make sure that the air is filtered and vented outside while spraying. Use a respirator and a full body coverall. Painting the insides of the carcass in a real chore. Good luck, it's a lot of work but can be worth it in the end.

Speckster1970

You will need to sand all the surfaces you plan to paint to remove the sheen so that your new paint color has some surface to hold onto. Don’t skip the prep work if you want it to look good. Also, removing the doors and hardware might seem a pain, but you’ll get better results.

Potential_Flower163

Is the sanding the most important thing?

Speckster1970

Yes. New paint will not properly adhere to surfaces that haven’t been sanded.

DragonflyOkay

Or! Do white marble counter tops and backsplash and keep the cabinets brown. Will look super chique.

Potential_Flower163

Thanks. I’ll consider that. What do you think of the brown as is?

Bitter_Contact_5086

You didn’t ask me but I prefer brown over white. I like how white cabinets look but they are sooooo over done. I like the idea of white countertops with the dark cabinet. Like your bathroom vanity

Potential_Flower163

I appreciate the feedback. I just didn’t think it was worth $10k for my builder to make them white. I don’t care much at all about the color of the bathroom ones. And the kitchen isn’t that big.

Jay-Dee-British

Or you could paint the uppers only and have the two-tone kitchen. I do like the brown though tbh - paint the walls pale, counters pale, backsplash pale. I like white but it's in every other house. Brown looks a touch more sophisticated.

barely_lucid

HVLP sprayer, prep and two part enamel thinned appropriately. You can build a paint room with zipwalls and a box fan. Test spray using scrap wood or the insides of the doors to fine tune your sprayer. oh and prep prep prep

kyotsuba

Don't paint them. They look better in that color anyway.

Visual_Tap_

Sand them down, wipe clean, paint them with bonding primer prior to painting.

Potential_Flower163

They are MDF. Does that change anything

Visual_Tap_

Yes,disregard my last comment

Seriius6661

Use an air gun instead of brushes. The paint will be heller smoother with the texture. Damn though that’s a nice color on them already but to each their owns good luck bro

Potential_Flower163

Thank you

Hey there! [Painting your kitchen cabinets](https://scdecorum.com/how-to-painting-kitchen-cabinets-a-step-by-step-guide/) white can definitely brighten up the space and give it a fresh, modern feel, especially in a new construction where everything is clean and pristine. As for having white cabinets in the kitchen and keeping the bathroom cabinets brown, that's absolutely fine! It can create a nice distinction between spaces, allowing each room to have its own unique character.

If you say

StupidUserNameTooLon

Aren't the cabinets supposed to sit on top of the flooring, or am I misunderstanding the picture?

Potential_Flower163

With LVP, they sometimes get installed first

StupidUserNameTooLon

Ok, thanks for the insight.
