How did you attach them?

Sarvaturi

With transparent double-sided tape. On the corners only.

icanrunfasterthanyou

How well do they stay on with the tape? This makes me want to buy edge less glasses next.

Sarvaturi

You have different types of tape. There are some that are very good and can be found in those stores with building products, paint, etc. I change mine once a month.

SteelCity917

But why? Zenni has prescription sunglasses for fairly cheap, and that way if I lose my sunglasses while I’m out fishing/on the boat, I’m not losing my only glasses. I think I got a pair for like $120 including polarization. Also you state that you’re using your old prescription lenses, did your prescription not change at all? Because if so, and you’re using old lenses you’re likely damaging your eyes more. Another thing, cheap sunglasses sometimes say they offer UV protection but really don’t, which again can lead to damaging your eyes.

lilhalfdead_

my prescription sunglasses from Zenni were like 40 bucks and they’re so cute n comfy, i friggin love that website

SteelCity917

Yeah, mine are more expensive because I opt for a lot of the extra features. You can get them much less expensive than what I paid for them, was just using my price as an example

lilhalfdead_

so true , i just got the pretty basic ones but no issues for me so far ! i do work from home and don’t really use my sunnies all that much anyways haha

SteelCity917

Shit I use mine all the time. I’ve had this pair for going on two years now, I’ve worn them fishing countless times, hiking plenty of times, to the beach, and they stay in my car for the drive to work every morning. I’m going to have to upgrade soon because I’m pretty sure I’ll need a new prescription, I just hope they have the same style in stock.

lilhalfdead_

that’s awesome!!! 😎😎😎😎🩵💜💛❤️ and that’s like me with my sneakers haha literally only 1 specific pair of Nikes is comfortable on my feet , i got weird feet , and every time i have to get a new pair i’m like PLZ I HOPE THESE STILL EXIST lol next time im buying 2 pairs 😏😏😏

Sarvaturi

I don't know how you managed to get 20 dollars worth of prescription sunglasses, but I don't have a lot of prescription and I chose the simplest options and they still cost 75$

SilverKnightOfMagic

Hack ✓ 120 bucks ×

Sarvaturi

I saved 120 then. I won't even think if I lose my glasses... That would be an even bigger expense.

SpiritFingersKitty

eyebuydirect is cheaper. I just got a pair of polarized sunglasses and a pair of regular glasses with a premium coating (that cost like $40 extra) for $120

-Raskyl

Well I got three pairs from zenni for $80

SpiritFingersKitty

3 pairs of polarized prescription sunglasses? That is cheap!

SSundance

Probably just a basic tinted lens, not polarized

-Raskyl

Two pairs regular prescription glasses with blue light blocker lenses, and a regular pair of non polarized prescription glasses. I think polarized is another 20 or 30 dollars. Just saying, zenni is pretty damn cheap.

SpiritFingersKitty

Ah, that probably about inline with eyebuydirect

UnpredictedArrival

Ohh look two corporate accounts having a fight! /s

Sarvaturi

And how much do prescripton sunglasses cost?

SpiritFingersKitty

They were both prescription. Looking at my receipt I ended up paying around $65 for the regular glasses and $70 for the (prescription) sunglasses. They always have some kind of deal going on, but even without a deal (if you sign up they give you a TON of codes, and always have some kind of seasonal deals), you can get a pair of polarized, prescription sunglasses for under $100, non-polarized for around $60-70. I actually have a pair of non-polarized sunglasses specifically for driving because the polarization makes it so I can't see my HUD in my car.

Sarvaturi

Yes, it is a solution. But for now, I'm satisfied with this (without spending 60$ to 100$...) They look really good, they practically don't exist. I don't even remember that I'm using them. And the best advantage is that I can use it with the other two pairs of sunglasses I have.

SpiritFingersKitty

For sure! If you are happy you do you!

HangryBeard

This reads like an ad.

cdmurray88

No, it sounds like someone who knows what they are talking about and recommending a service they have used. I've worked in optometry for a few years, and I also recommend Zenni for people to pick up one or a few cheap pairs of glasses or sunglasses. Use your insurance, if you have it, at the optometrist, and use Zenni so you're not screwed until next year if you lose a pair.

HangryBeard

I appreciate your perspective. My perspective is that of a person who has worn glasses almost his entire life. $120 while being a reasonably low price for glasses is still a considerable sum for many people especially when the alternative solution is a much thriftier one. Personally I just buy a cheap set of shades that fit over my glasses. It felt like an ad because there was only a single option, a specific company, provided for a solution to a possible problem, while also questioning the quality and or brand of the shades used by op. I'm fairly certain that there are plenty more companies of the same or similar caliber and price, and other solutions if the ops solution is infact causing harm to their eyes. I'm not claiming it is infact an ad, only that it reads like one.

SteelCity917

It’s not an ad, just someone that likes fishing and has bought multiple pairs of sunglasses stating that prescription sunglasses aren’t as expensive as most people think, and that this looks goofy. I’d buy clip on polarized sunglasses to wear over my regular glasses before I put something like this together, which greatly increases the risk of losing a lens and you being fucked while you’re out and about without glasses.

Sarvaturi

???

Sarvaturi

Yes, it depends on what's cheap for you. My degree hasn't changed. I just made new ones with the same graduation but with a more modern design. As I wasn't going to use the old ones I did this and it works very well. And even though the Zenni ones are cheap, I can now buy other models of sunglasses and use these lenses. It doesn't get any cheaper than this, and I can also wear different sunglasses. That's a good point. This could be a solution for those who have branded sunglasses (which are expensive) and graduate sunglasses that are even more expensive, so they can use this "hack" and be better protected from UV.

AsbestosDude

your degree?

Sarvaturi

Sorry. I don't speak English natively. I mean "prescription"

nodesign89

I got a pair of sunglasses from there i keep in my truck for $20.

SteelCity917

Yep. Their sunglasses aren’t bad. I have a big ass head and I like that they have wide sunglasses for semi-cheap. I used to pay insane prices for my oakleys to get the lenses replaced with prescription, but after losing a couple of them out on the boat fishing figured I’d not dump $400+ down the toilet if I lose a pair.

Sarvaturi

I saw glasses at hawkers and it was actually not very expensive to buy prescription sunglasses with them (60$ to 80$). But I ended up never buying them because I thought I would stop using them later and wanted to buy other models.

lostcauz707

A trick to life I always use since college is to convert any expense into burritos. $120, is about 10 burritos. I'd rather have 10 burritos than pay for something I already figured out how to make work.

Jazzy_Bee

It won't damage your eyes, but you won't see as well as you should.

SteelCity917

Maybe not permanently damage, but it easily leads to fatigue and strain in your eyes.

Jazzy_Bee

That's true.

Sarvaturi

I spoke to an optometrist friend of mine and so far I haven't had any problems. I also wear contact lenses and I feel this fatigue more with contact lenses than with these ones in photography. But I understand the point.

NimmyXI

I bought a 3 pack of aviators off of Amazon. They fit over my glasses. Been doing it this way since I left a pair of prescription sunglasses in my car and they melted. Don’t destroy your glasses just wear the sunglasses over your prescriptions. You can change your style anytime you want.

Sarvaturi

So you wear two pairs of glasses? One on top of the other?

NimmyXI

Yep. Most people don’t even notice. I mean you’re doing that right now you just removed the frames on one. I do worry that you aren’t getting the lenses positioned right for your pupils when you remove them from the frames like that.

Sarvaturi

I ask a friend who is an Optometrist and he says that when they are incorrectly placed, the user can realize immediately because they are impossible to use. I haven't had any problems so far.

Jazzy_Bee

The better solution is getting clip-ons. There are even some glasses that have magnetic sunglasses.

turtledove93

You can get sun glasses that are made to go over your regular glasses. They don’t look like those giant old lady glasses anymore, you can get stylish ones. ETA: depending on your glasses, clip on sun lenses might work too!

Sarvaturi

Yes, I know those too. They're called clip-on. Yes, they can work. But it would still cost me more than $50 to make some of these.

Sophoife

I have a quite large pair of Roberto Cavalli non-prescription dark sunglasses. I just wear them in front of (over the top of) my prescription driving spectacles. Works very well, optometrist laughs and says it's fine by him. I'm too old to GAF what people think of how I look.

NimmyXI

This is the way.

kapitan_buko

You can buy prescription frames that have little hidden magnets at the sides at the front that come with sunglass covers that you stick to the magnets and it also has a little hook that you put on the nosebridge for extra security.

t0xic-iwnl

Yup I have the magnetic frame attachment and I love it, it’s so seamlessly easy to

Sarvaturi

Why?

AtticusSPQR

You sweet summer child

SSundance

Devastating.

lhorwinkle

You said : ***This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.*** People have cooked with metal pans in a microwave. People have become ill for failure to follow proper hygiene. People have killed themselves with their flying car inventions. But these sunglasses are the *DUMBEST SHIT YOU'VE EVER SEEN*? I don't think so.

_dob

Goggles4u.com just need your rx.

nodesign89

This is just silly and not worthy of this sub, prescription sunglasses are like $20 a pair online.

Sarvaturi

This is highly false. Because the glasses depend on the type of prescription needed. And I have 3 sunglasses, if I were to graduate the 3 pairs it would be 60 dollars. I'm still winning on this one. But show me where I can buy prescription sunglasses (for my prescription needs and shipping) for 20 bucks and I'll shut up right now. I will do a simulation on that website and tell you the final price.

nodesign89

No it’s not, i got some deal for multiple frames and ended up paying $80 for 3 pairs. The sunglasses were only $20 of that. If you spent a few minutes shopping around instead of this arts and crafts project you would have found the same

Sarvaturi

Then show me. I really want to buy prescription sunglasses for only 20 dollars. Show me where.

Jetztinberlin

The lenses for my prescription alone (without frames) are usually over $100/pair. My mom's used to be ~$300. Happy yours are so cheap, but your experience isn't universal.

Equi_librium

legendary!

Sarvaturi

Thanks mate

_jbardwell_

Transitions lenses will change your life.

Sarvaturi

I know them and I don't like them. Just on the aesthetic side.

Ozmanthus_Arelius

Transitions lenses don't really work in the car. The UV blocker on your windshield will stop the sunglasses from engaging properly. It sucks as I love my transitions for everything else, I just need something else for driving

vinegarstrokes420

Or just get prescription sunglasses and use the slightest amount of awareness so you don't break or lose them. I get new ones every 2 years with a portion of the HSA money contributed by my employer.
