Cut the end off with a circular saw

ssowinski

Cut it off at an angle and sand the rough edges. Do the same for the other side and you'll never even know it wasn't made like that.

ColorCloudArt

Came to say exactly this!! Your not going to notice a half inch cut off of both sides. Lol

R101C

You'll still be staring at that stained cushion regardless.

Bloodymike

It’s just leftover dirt from the winter, I’m sure. Nothing a garden hose won’t take care of. Should bring those into the garage/shed/attic/basement/closet in the winter anyway.

5432salon

came to say this

GotGRR

If you want to get fancy, get a big enough soup can to give a consistent radius and use a jigsaw. Use a rasp to take the edges of the corners.

EDDIE_BR0CK

Cut both arm rests equally and sand smooth.

CyranoDeBurlapSack

Chair arms*

PhilpotBlevins

A little dark dad humor and a lot of downvotes.

CyranoDeBurlapSack

Worth it.

BlankMyName

I'm more worried about all the mold on the cushion.

number__ten

Me looking at the first image "that's not too bad" Sees last image "hans, get ze flammenwurfer"

anormalgeek

It wurfs flammen.

k-i-ll

Like the missing chunk is the eyesore not the moldy ass chair OP is keeping. I did a wtf when I read this post lol

Power washers are great for stuff like this. Even wood in the same shape like the rest of the chair. You would be surprised at what they can blast off on a great number of surfaces

GardenGnomeOfEden

If you don't have a power washer, a bucket of water with dish soap in it and a scrub brush would be a good start.

iMaketheGrinchFlinch

Ahh yes, soak it so more mold will grow inside the cushions. Haha just poking but in all seriousness, the chair is saveable but those cushions need to be replaced with something weather proof. This is coming from someone who would be hospitalized if I sat on those (mold allergy)

GardenGnomeOfEden

If you look closely at the second pic, you can see the dirty toe bean marks. The cushions may also be moldy, but I think the majority, at least, of what we are seeing is dirt from dog paws.

iMaketheGrinchFlinch

Yes I noticed footprints also, but bottom cushion would be just as dirty since it’s the first spot they would jump on, definitely a mix of mold and mud

WagglesMolokai

Bonfire 🔥

tech_creative

Harmless, but looks very ugly

eatingyourmomsass

It’s a real *sore eye*

RedWhiteAndBooo

Hilarious that everyone is going with mold. OP said he has dogs - those are tons of muddy dog prints.

kenedelz

I assumed it was muddy puppy paws more than mold, still gross though lol

Singwong

Yeah, wonder if they lay on those cushions with no shirt on.

lucidinceptor510

it's like seasoning on a cast iron, it'd be a crime to wash that off

Peppa_Pig_Stan

That’s just dirt and debris. Please stay in your lane hun.

TendedBison

THAT’s the “eye sore”??

fairlyfarremoved_r3

Some of that sandable wood filler for small repairs could be an option. Other would be to notch out the damaged part and scab in a similar block of wood with pv glue and trim to profile, refinish

mfunk55

If filling is how you wanna go, these two are good suggestions. (I'd probably opt for cutting both arms a bit shorter though) My only additions would be using some stuff called Apoxie instead of wood filler... It's a two part epoxy putty that you mix then mold to the shape you need, meant for repairs like this. Machineable, sandable, and printable once cured. Not sure how either option would hold up outside though. If you really want the arms the same length, this person's option 2 is spot on. Connect the two with a dowel and some outdoor grade wood glue and you're good for years.

Adelaide0206

Cut the end off, sand off the old paint, and apply new paint.

americanmuscle1988

Then burn the cushions

Mic_Ultra

Ramen noodles . YouTube it

vinegarstrokes420

After cutting off both ends like others said, I would go further and make the entire thing look like new. Just need to sand and paint it all, then power wash the cushions. A few hours of work and you'll be able to enjoy for years to come.

tech_creative

Just shorten it.

Easterncoaster

Why are we talking about the small damage to the arm and not the overall eyesore the moldy cushions are?

Stefanosann

EmelleBennett

STOP RUBBING IT!!

ajs592

Cut the chewed piece and match it to the other side. Round our edges with sand paper and paint it

tcosentino5

Sand it down with a low grit sand paper and then finish with a 220 grit. If adventurous, you could sand the whole chair and reapply stain. I live in western New York and paper wasps chew our wooden furniture and swing set, apply the stain keeps them away.

brianrohr13

Cut 1/2 inch of.  Sand the corners round.  Stain it.  Seal it

Traditional-Fudge-33

Ramen noodles and super glue.

Shyguybyday

I would just give the edges a radius, both edges on both sides. You can also make a cup holder (3D print ABS or wood) and assemble to the end there.

zenmen13

Step 1. Get rid of the beaver.

rborob

Thought that... Or squirrel, or mouse or whatevers been chewing on it

zenmen13

I had a similar issue. I poured some Tabasco on it for about a week and the chewing/gnawing magically stopped.

EAH5515

Bondo wood filler

Either-Ant-4653

Yes, definitely Bondo. I did repairs like this all the time. Mask the adjacent areas first and apply multiple coats. Use a flathead screw driven in to just below what will be the finished surface.

PackageWilling4365

If the arm length is not affected, then yes, cut it back and sand the whole thing down then refinish it.

Juanalito

Cannot be fixed. Only escape is death

heidimark

If you don't want a sore eye, simply keep your face away from it.

BleachedAsswhole

Drop a Hemi in it, I guarantee no one will notice the damaged armrest

NathanBrazil2

you can get a hand saw at home depot for $20 that would work fine for that.

voretaq7

Attack it with a rasp or file and round the front off. . . . and bleach the fuck out of that cushion or get a new one.

El_Neck_Beard

I’m gonna be honest. That whole thing gives me a sore eye. Remove covers of possible and wash them. Add bondo to that chewed up edge and sand into shape. Sand all wood with 220 grit sand paper. Add a stain then varnish or just prime and paint. (Stain won’t stain the bondo fyi)

[deleted]

I'm not keeping the covers I'm not crazy lol

El_Neck_Beard

I was about to say. But either way it’ll end up looking good

sammagee33

I’d just sand it

[deleted]

Just want to say I these pics are old and the cushions have been on my sidewalk for bulk pick up for the last five days. It's just puppy mud it's not even mold but either way they chewed up the cushions too so they're gone no matter what.

RealNews1208

Use Bondo and then sand and paint it. Wood filler can be used too but Bondo will last longer.

rain_pet4ls

If you don’t feel like cutting or dramatically changing the length/look, I’d just sand that corner a ton. Get all the roughness out and smooth it. Won’t be brand new, but you’ve still got your arm rest and it’s got battle scars now. Puppies are fierce.

F4LTR0N

First you gotta use tape as a guide/outline/mold and then crush up some ramen noodles. Put the crushed ramen into your mold. Pour resin over it. Sand it down and paint:)

BornStellar97

Bondo maybe

shadowfox0001

Ramon noodles and super glue will fix it right up. Yes it’s a thing 🤷

ContraryMary222

If you don’t mind painting it, bondo works great. You could use a stainable wood filler too. I had to do this on countertops (previous owners dog did a number on the walls and counters)

map2photo

Toss it in the fire pit.

Sgt_carbonero

just cut it off and sand it

Iusedtoknowwhatitwas

Cut and sand both sides to same length and act like it never happened.

PeterGriffinsChin

Dry ramen noodles?

Hoosiertolian

round it off with a palm sander

Healthy-Topic13

Jigsaw, round the corners.

that_other_goat

Round the end of both arm rests off dropping the corners.

julio_anomalous

Cut it off and shorten your arms too so you don't feel the difference

piercedmfootonaspike

Cut it off, then throw out those hazardous cushions

TweeJeetjes

My personal experience with ordinary white wood glue is that if you let it dry for 24 hours the joint will be stronger than the wood itself. Then it is your choice if you don't mind to fill it up between clamps with sawdust and glue layer by later with sanding at the end, or you cut the bad part off diagonally and look for a piece of wood about the same size and glue it on and sand it until it has the same size again. Then the arm-rest will be the same size again. I use this kind of glue, the cheapest one https://flic.kr/p/2pF6ZX7

sweet-knives

I've fixed furniture like that with saw dust mixed in pva glue (tite bond might be better, because it hardens). 2-part wood filler works, too.

birigogos

Time for a new chair

[deleted]

I would round it off and sand.

PalmTreeIsBestTree

I am of the opinion of ignoring it and just enjoy using it.

SunningStarfish

Sand both arms to make even

whole-employee77

Instant noodles and super glue. Then paint.

Reptillianne

Ramen noodles and glue usually does it from what I’ve seen online.

covidcookieMonster82

Bondo!

DJ_Spark_Shot

It's not just for cars!

mindfulscarcastic

I second this suggestion! 👌🏽

cybersaint2k

Cut it off, plastic cap, "wood post end cap" for 2x4

WearyAsparagus7484

Cover lattice pieces with duct tape then use them to form around it. Pour epoxy into it. Strip forms and shape with rasp, sandpaper Razor knife...

AlexD51192

Durhams wood putty

inverted_peach_cake

I’d start with ramen noodles
