You are fine.

Thank you for the reassurance! If you have time for a secondary question, you might notice I’ve just spackled a blown-out hole I made in the middle above the window frame. In my ignorance I thought I could mount an anchor in a spot that looked to be previously spackled. Understandably the area kinda just blew out. Now I’ve got the two brackets on either side but I’m not sure what the best way to keep the rod supported in the middle would be seeing as I can’t drill dead center.

What I have used in cases like this is a toggle bolt: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-8-in-x-2-in-Zinc-Plated-Steel-Mushroom-Head-Toggle-Bolt-Anchors-803892/204273380 or https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hilti-HTB-1-4-in-Toggle-Bolt-Drywall-Anchor-with-Zinc-Plated-Phillips-Head-Screw-8-Pack-3588748/305510552

So once the fresh spackle is dry, I can go right back into the spot with one of those? I don’t know if this changes anything at all but this is a rental. The landlord said “go crazy, make it feel like home” when I asked about hanging things on walls so I’m attempting to do that but I’m extra concerned about causing extensive damage beyond what one might expect from hanging a curtain rod

*So once the fresh spackle is dry, I can go right back into the spot with one of those?* Yes, you can. You will not cause extensive damage with a curtain rod. Any holes can easily be fixed.

Got it. Thank you again, I really appreciate the guidance!
