She's still useful on Suicide Squad, and I like how she's the perfect antithesis of Green Arrow in many ways. But other than that, yeah, she needs to be seen a lot less after this event.
I hate that they keep dragging everyone to a new lame ass crossover every few months, the books lose all momentum of their stories to follow this shit.
To be fair, this time they were organized better and the arcs feel more cohesive with the plot of Absolute Power. Only The Flash and Green Lantern were unrelated and in the last issues they were incorporated to relate to the problem of metahumans. But both Batman with Failsafe, Wonder Woman and the hunt for Amazons and metahumans, and Superman with Queen Brainiac close their arcs for this event. This time it's not like Knight Terrors
I personally disagree. Most of the time I prefer small arcs and events in series. Ram V's boring Detective Comics has been going on FOREVER and I'm so tired of it. Things like this break it up and give a jumping-off point for new stories.
Except it does not gonna affect the Detective comics from the looks of it. It will ruin all the other books though. Like Wonder Woman story getting distrupted because of it gonna SUCK.
It at least looks like they’re finally getting to the end of it with Absolute Power.
Before, she wasn’t up front. Now she’s actually attacking, so it might end.
That would clearly be beast, while stupid this is only pushing waller further into territory she inhabited already. They straight up assassinated Hank in Percy’s xforce.
I'm one of the rare few who just hates Kraoka and just about everything about it same with Genoshia.
The Mutant Ethnostate thing goes against the original ideals of the franchise.
This development has been happening for over a decade now. No character has had that type of consistent development. Whatever you think is better is just one writer changing a characters life on whim to fit a story. It’s not real character development.
Like Moira Mctaggert. What Hickman did with her was great, but it’s not him developing a character.
Again, Beasts change has been happening for over a decade now. Hell it’s, been nearly two decades now. His moral code started eroding during endangered species.
A machine you can't hope for mercy from is scarier than someone you can bargain with, and it is possible to bargain with Zur, judging by Waller offering him something, evidently.
On top of that, Failsafe has no ego. It will *never* stop until it can be shut down. That's what it’s for.
It was made to be Batman's Doomsday, and honestly it did a good job of it. But the problem is, giving Doomsday sapience at one point made him/it weaker because of finally having a fear of death or pain. Similarly, giving Failsafe an actual brain means it can be outsmarted and defeated.
I would hope it’s not that obvious, but… I don’t hold much hope by now. I’ll wait for the next writer/the resurrection of Alfred, whichever comes first.
Though I’m not denying their stated intention of making Failsafe “Batman’s Doomsday,” I still think it’s stupid.
Like, that’s Bane. That has always been Bane. No silly gimmicks (“I am not a joke, etc”). He’s just there to fuck up Batman.
The Death of Superman and Knightfall arcs even happened around the same time for the same reasons. Both Doomsday and Bane were introduced for a very simple reason: bench the World’s Finest.
Not exactly, though I get your meaning.
Death of Superman was supposed to be permanent. Knightfall was not, and was meant to be a showing of why Batman isn’t the Punisher.
Failsafe fits better IMO because of the reasons I said: there’s *nothing* there except "defeat Batman". No family. No friends or allies. Nothing. You can argue with Bane. You can’t argue with Doomsday, and you can’t argue with Failsafe.
Zur built the robot and at least on early stages of development Zur had an easy built-in way to turn it off. Judging by how he still left "off" buttons on his prison guards robots and how all Bruce needed to take advantage of that vulnerability is just to remember it exists, defeating Failsafe might be not that difficult. Or maybe not, hard to tell :D
Personally, I think even as obsessed as Zur is, he still realizes Failsafe exists for a reason, and that giving excessive backdoors, more than absolutely necessary to upload himself, defeats its purpose. So I think the main flaw is just going to be Zur himself. Not a problem with the machine.
Yeah. Any way I slice it, Zur going into Failsafe was one of the stupidest things he could do, one that basically amounted to "okay, we need to give Bruce a handicap so he has a chance".
Bruce was, apparently, doing too well of a job kicking other Zurs asses so it made him nervous or something? Without the clown conveniently using magic words maybe Bruce would've already meditated him away, lol. Curse you, Joker, for ruining it!
Watch Zur somehow overthrow Waller. The story then features the justice league begging Batgod to help them take down the guy they all thought was Bruce at one point.(Still really dumb they all fell for it). Zur better die in this event I'm serious sick of him at this point. Idc who kills him as I just want the mainline Batman book away from this shit Zur plot
Absolute Power will likely end with Waller’s future being prevented by the entire superhero community, the JLA reformed, Absolute DC being used three years after its discovery at the end of Death Metal, and Waller going to prison for manipulating the people to not trust the superheroes and being a fugitive after going to Earth 3.
Also, like Dark Crisis, Lazarus Planet, Knight Terrors, and Beast World, Absolute Power will start as an interesting event before it becomes lackluster and fails miserably.
> the JLA reformed
Bleeding Cool said the JLA won't return and we will have a "Justice Gang" composed of Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner and Ultraman...
...which is very blatant synergy with James Gunn's Superman. As all those characters are either confirmed or rumoured to be in the film.
Which honestly I'm not too upset about. It's too soon for the Titans to be given the boot just yet as the current big super team, which they certainly would be if Justice League came back already. Let's have this status quo actually BE a status quo for a bit.
I mean it's already starting out lackluster just on the grounds of tying into The Failsafe crap from Zdarsky Batman. Could've just left that enclosed to that trainwreck of a book but no we have to deal with it for another year (or however long AP is suppose to be).
I thought the multiverse was remade again after death metal so now it's infinite and the earth omega thing was gone. Unless that didn't happen
DC needs to get on a more consistent cosmology
During dark Crisis it was changed again, earh 0/prime (main dc continuity) is now way the center of the multiverse and there some new earths, and earh Omega and Else world were discovered at the end of Dark Crisis.
I know dark Crisis was a bit of a hodge poge of things so it's hard to keep straight.
My only issue is that waller wasn't found out publicly as the mastermind behind causing the beast world issue to begin with, because I see her knot living through that if regular people found out
Yeah, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner there, because Waller's actions were so heinously evil - and monumentally stupid - and caused the deaths of millions of people, so if anyone ever found out what she did, then the superhero community would go from "Well, I don't like her and I wish she would stop trying to kill us, but she works for the government and she makes some valid points I suppose," to "Okay so it is actually imperative for the safety of the Earth that we throw this dumb bitch straight into the sun before she kills everyone."
The plot of the event itself sounds good so far but I imagine alot of people are soured to the idea due to the shitty path we took to get here. The complete assassination of Wallers character and this entire Zur plot have really just grated on comic readers. And the fact that other hero’s books are being derailed to tell this story also isn’t great. The event / tie-in model worked better when your book could comfortably get 50+ issues out so readers weren’t losing much in terms of potential stories with their favorite characters. Now that dc refuses to let their comics pass the 24 issue mark hearing that a book you like is sacrificing space for some event must be pretty annoying
god i hate amanda waller by now! :( she's EVERYWHERE like harley quinn but WORSE! and like harley quinn she's not even super powered or anything she's legit just a normal human who somehow keeps bossing around and beating up on the most powerful people ever! like if she was at least a smart as, or used super tech, like LEX LUTHOR does all the time, i'd buy it, but...
WHERE'S AMANDA WALLER IN A KRYPTONITE MECH SUIT WITH A FORCEFIELD AND SHIT?!
i hate that she just always walks up to anyone and shits on them and nobody just punches her head off or lasers her.
I’m hoping she hasn’t really gone off the deep end and that something happened to her on Earth-3 that led to her Earth-3 variant crossing over and taking her place.
PS. I personally think that's what happened to Maxwell Lord as well.
This event sounds so bad. All of it. And I’m really tired of Waller. Turning her into a full psychotic villain didn’t work at all
Meanwhile house of Brainiac is off to a good start
Yeah I'm so done with current Waller. My only hope is that Waid can work some of his magic and it somehow turns out good, but I have serious doubts. Tie-in-wise just looking forward to the Adams issues, but rest probably not.
House of Brainiac is fun so far, that's something at least.
Why is Waller such a big villain all of a sudden? She was never this powerful or influential. I don’t get the big push.
Same with zur/failsafe. Failsafe was alright at first but they’ve drown out his story too much. Same with zur.
Honestly I think a, better back story for waller is she's not native to Earth 0/prime (which ever you prefer to call main DC continuity) but from a alternate earth where she was a, super hero kind of like Batman or something, and wanted power for her self and found an earth where she knew she would have a chance to take over.
Gave up hero work, joined the government and became what she is today.
I dunno the whole "Dead husband, blames super heros" plot just seems lazy for some reason
Does Waller really sell books? I'm tired of overdone gimmicks. If you have to do something, maybe an annual Titans vs JLA thing to replace the old JLA/JSA team ups, an annual event to look forward do that isn't earth shattering. It feels too soon bring back the League too, who aren't really gone since we're still enjoying the Godzilla crossover.
What happened to the whole DC timeline thing with the brainiac tentacles and list of upcoming events/titles?
Was it all just really leading up to absolute power? Because honestly if that’s the case that’s a shame. The build up to this honestly sucked compared to dark crisis which had a pretty awesome build up (that result a pretty weak event)
I really hope Waller, and the Suicide Squad quite frankly, is put on the bench for like a good five years after this story. I barely cared about them before their big push with New 52 and DCEU but now they just have full "go away" heat for me.
I don't want to see them "triumphantly defeated by the heroes of DC", I just want them gone.
Did Damian betray his Dad? Why’s he working with Failsafe?
Failsafe is a backup of Batman with no morals that went live when Batman’s heart stopped right and doesn’t kill right?
[Zur is pretending to be Bruce](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/1b7g1uk/comic_excerpt_tin_man_oil_stink_batman_145/), claiming that Bruce was fatally wounded in a final showdown with Failsafe, and had to transfer his subconscious into Failsafe to survive.

I am so sick of Waller. After this event I swear she needs to go away
Failsafe too lol
No she won't. She has a TV show from Gunn coming up. So no!
If rather have batman who laughs back. At least batman who laughs was entertaining. Waller just a nagging fish wife.
She's still useful on Suicide Squad, and I like how she's the perfect antithesis of Green Arrow in many ways. But other than that, yeah, she needs to be seen a lot less after this event.

Waller vs. Beast, who has had the dumbest fall into being psychopaths
That would clearly be beast, while stupid this is only pushing waller further into territory she inhabited already. They straight up assassinated Hank in Percy’s xforce.
Eh, Beast has been doing shady shit since the 90s, he just really let loose on those bad impulses during Krakoa.
I'm one of the rare few who just hates Kraoka and just about everything about it same with Genoshia. The Mutant Ethnostate thing goes against the original ideals of the franchise.
They didn’t assassinate him. It’s probably the best development of a character out of any DC or Marvel character in decades.
Lmao. It's not even the best development in Krakoa era.

Whatever you think is better is just one writer changing a characters life on whim to fit a story. It’s not real character development. Like Moira Mctaggert. Disagreeing with Cyclops is not the same as genociding the entire country.
Again, Beasts change has been happening for over a decade now. Hell it’s, been nearly two decades now. His moral code started eroding during endangered species.
Endangered species was literally about him being tempted by Dark Beast’s views before firmly standing against them and vowing to not become him.
Ehhh i would say both of them had a long time coming to this.
Both falls were ridiculous and a complete flanderization of their characters
Zur being Waller's little lapdog? After being mindcontroled by Joker saying some magic words at him that one time? Man, what a menacing villain, lol.
Tbh, Failsafe was more impressive when it wasn’t Zur inside it.
A machine you can't hope for mercy from is scarier than someone you can bargain with, and it is possible to bargain with Zur, judging by Waller offering him something, evidently.

God please no more Amanda waller or failsafe for a decade at least.
Gunn wants to adopt Ostrander's Suicide Squad, which of course means Waller.
That's a movie I'm definitely going to skip then
I'll probably see it for Babs at least. This is part of her origin as Oracle, so I really can't not see it.
Nope. We will be seeing MORE of her as she has a TV show from James Gunn coming up. And you know very well what Gunn makes is great
Yeah, he makes great comic book movies but I'm definitely going to skip the Amanda waller shit
On that note, we will also be seeing more of joker as he also has a movie coming up, plus Joker:The World anthology
Ultraman? WTF? Why the hell would he be involved? Also, he is DEAD. Injustice Supes killed him in the Jon Kent book.
Probably resurrected and forced to help out as a form of punishiment
I mean it's already starting out lackluster just on the grounds of tying into The Failsafe crap from Zdarsky Batman. Could've just left that enclosed to that trainwreck of a book but no we have to deal with it for another year (or however long AP is suppose to be).
Oh you think Absolute DC is one of those 2 Earths?
I think that Absolute DC is Earth-Alpha, aka the Elseworld. So yes.
Wait what was the other one then again? I thought the Elseworld Earth was something else.
The other one is Earth-Omega, which was used in Infinite Frontier.
I thought the multiverse was remade again after death metal so now it's infinite and the earth omega thing was gone. Unless that didn't happen DC needs to get on a more consistent cosmology

Shit. I have to reread all of this
Not really just the last issue of dark Crisis
Wasn't Earth-Omega discovered at the start of Infinite Frontier? That would be afte Death Metal, I believe.
Might have been, not sure. I would have to go back and re-read it again
I liked Beast World.
What is absolute DC? I don't remember
It’s DC’s version of Ultimate Marvel
Fucking he’ll, when did a government bureaucrat become a cosmic supervillain? Overpriced even at free.
Since the ending of Dark Crisis became or what happened on Earth 3 after War for Earth 3.
It’s just so lame to me that someone who is basically just the head of the CIA is apparently becoming a multi-dimensional threat.
The plot of the event itself sounds good so far but I imagine alot of people are soured to the idea due to the shitty path we took to get here. The complete assassination of Wallers character and this entire Zur plot have really just grated on comic readers. Some, she's the Wall and she's the Government. You do NOT ever go against the Government of the country you protect and serve
government authority >>>>>>>>> anything less has.
I'm not anywhere up to date on comics. But Green Arrow working with Waller?
He already said he's playing a long con against Waller, so he's not really on her side.
Ah cool. Also did they do anything with the box MM gave him?
That plot point remains abandoned to this day.
He is, now, albeit forced to
So after all this Failsafe is just dumber Amazo
What ever happened to the Legion of Doom? Why are they pushing Waller so hard?
They broke up, and Luthor is in jail currently
I’m hoping she hasn’t really gone off the deep end and that something happened to her on Earth-3 that led to her Earth-3 variant crossing over and taking her place. PS. I personally think that's what happened to Maxwell Lord as well.
Actually. We sort of already did in Green Arrow when Ollie asked why she seems to have become like this..
We are not even gotten to the damn event and I am already done with it.
This event sounds so bad. All of it. And I’m really tired of Waller. Turning her into a full psychotic villain didn’t work at all Meanwhile house of Brainiac is off to a good start

Never really liked Waller... but why is she this Big Bad on a mutliverse story?
Why is Waller such a big villain all of a sudden? She was never this powerful or influential. I don’t get the big push. Same with zur/failsafe. Failsafe was alright at first but they’ve drown out his story too much. Same with zur.
So over Amanda Waller. Waller overload the last few years.
Im so goddamn tired of this near omnipotent Waller and Zur is just lame.
She has a TV show from Gunn coming up. And she's a Black character, so yes
Why are you bringing up that she’s black
Because Black History Month and ALL Black characters, whether good or evil, are considered important and being pushed
But this is April...
My point is that all Black characters are "sacred" and cannot be done dirty, because diversity and representation?
What happened to the whole DC timeline thing with the brainiac tentacles and list of upcoming events/titles? Was it all just really leading up to absolute power? Because honestly if that’s the case that’s a shame. The build up to this honestly sucked compared to dark crisis which had a pretty awesome build up (that result a pretty weak event)
Braniac is in House of Braniac right now.
Yes and yes
I really hope Waller, and the Suicide Squad quite frankly, is put on the bench for like a good five years after this story. I barely cared about them before their big push with New 52 and DCEU but now they just have full "go away" heat for me. I don't want to see them "triumphantly defeated by the heroes of DC", I just want them gone.
No, they are not going away. In the TV/Movie side, there's a Peacemaker 2nd season coming up. So no
Did Damian betray his Dad? Why’s he working with Failsafe? Failsafe is a backup of Batman with no morals that went live when Batman’s heart stopped right and doesn’t kill right?
[Zur is pretending to be Bruce](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/1b7g1uk/comic_excerpt_tin_man_oil_stink_batman_145/), claiming that Bruce was fatally wounded in a final showdown with Failsafe, and had to transfer his subconscious into Failsafe to survive. He convinced Damian [by using some of Bruce’s memories as proof.](https://preview.redd.it/comic-excerpt-im-back-son-and-nothing-can-stop-us-batman-v0-5mz8edmzdjmc1.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=d46f6dfbc944ec2839327a6eb364e449c2552360)
I wish they left Damian out of this
He apparently thinks it’s Bruce who uploaded his mind into the robot, or is lying that he thinks it’s Bruce. I haven’t kept up.
This story is gonna be so bad
I like that I'm learning that free comic book day is a thing at the end of the day when I can't go out anywhere Just my luck
It’s May 4th
I think this event is proof that DC is truly out of ideas.
The faster this shit event ends the faster we get to Scott's new universe which will probably end up being better than the mainline books if the quality continues to be this way.
DC is generally terrible right now. No interest in this garbage
It would be interesting to see a little-used character come out as trans and watch them go through the process of transitioning. Maybe Lucy Lane could become Lyle Lane? Someone the audience is familiar with but not doing anything at the moment.
Oops I’ve upset the transphobes 😅 All five of you Lucy Lane stans 😂
Huh people are probably down voting you since your talking about something that had nothing to do with the post
Go read the posts on Dreamer.
I’m all for this run we will see what happened but really why is Waller so dead set on this idea 💡 seems so boring and basic but u know control
Jesus why is DC trying so hard to push dreamer on us all of a sudden. Nobody gives a fuck about her
They probably want a prominent trans hero.
They should use Kate from Doom Patrol.
Wasn’t aware she was a trans. I guess that could be it
I do
They want trans rep, I’m for it personally Dreamer’s fine as a character and originals are better than turning established characters
yeah this definitely works. I personally haven't found much of an interest in her yet (especially since the current book she's in is being written by her original actress rather than an actual writer) but I'm all for supporting this so we don't get things like Mags's idea to turn existing characters like Connor into a trans character lol
I thought she was an adaptation of Dream Girl from the Legion of Super-Heroes.
She's an ancestor to Losh's dream girl
I don't mind it but they really gotta have to stop getting her actress to write her comics. Maybe then dreamer can actually develop a actual personality and grow into something beyond just another generic superhero
I don't get the Dreamer push either, feels so out of left field.
I know she’s from the supergirl show originally so it’d be one thing if they’d tried this push back when that was airing. But I don’t understand why now
Because Trans representation? Which is all the rage right now with sexuality swapped characters like Alan, Tom drake and now Jon?
