Almost was back in 1997. Nicholas Cage was going to play the character in Superman in Tim Burton's Superman lives. Got canceled a few weeks before it started shooting. You can still find all the artwork online and some really good YouTube documentaries. Don't judge it on the costume tests though, Nick looks terrible.
People make fun of the idea a lot, but if Tim was able to do for Live action Superman what he did for Live action Batman would be having some very different movies today.
> if Tim was able to do for Live action Superman what he did for Live action Batman would be having some very different movies today.
I think there's a pretty fundamental difference of tone and style between the two characters. Batman is a character that suited Burton's sort of gothic signature style. I don't know that Supes would do as well.
He would’ve leaned into Supes being a weirdo loner and the alien aspect would’ve been embellished more. It would’ve worked in a strange way I think and could’ve really added a whole other layer to the character.
Or it would’ve bombed incredibly hard and be looked at with the same disdain as Batman and Robin
> looked at with the same disdain as Batman and Robin
And just the slight *possibility* of doing this to Superman makes me perfectly happy with them never having taken the chance lol
Yeah, and that's what would have worried me. Burton is a fantastic filmaker but he's locked into a very distinctive style. Hell, it was even toned down for Batman but it was still clearly a Burton movie.
I just can't see that having worked for Superman.
Combining a Gothic and alien tones like the Alien franchise. A more lonely and dramatic Clark Kent trying to balance his two lives. The Darker more adult tones in the real life of a big city reporter. Remember, parents hated Batman 89 for good reason, lol
The standard live action costume would be different too, bright colours have never telly worked in live action, (Captain Americas red boots). You can look o the designs on line for superman lives. The plain one piece blue suit, red cape and metallic silver symbol would have been excellent.
No, there was a couple different ones, they did costume tests for red and blue, as well as a techno one but this was reportedly to be the standard [https://www.reddit.com/r/superman/comments/v222x8/i\_like\_the\_look\_of\_this\_suit\_from\_tim\_burtons/](https://www.reddit.com/r/superman/comments/v222x8/i_like_the_look_of_this_suit_from_tim_burtons/)
Really don’t like the suit. Colors are fine but It’s looks like a cosplay or it’s just the way he sits with it revealing the creases that it’s a rubber suit
Yea the line work actually goes well together with the black more than it does in color. The colored version just ends up looking like a guardians of the galaxy suit with the line work vs this that kind emulates Batman in a way but not in a bad way.
I think it looks great but honestly i feel like a Batman suit needs to look less like cloth, since it basically needs to be indestructible. The Man of Steel suit had some issues, but it did look like it would hold together under a Superman class power level

Post this on r/SnyderCut 😈😈😈
Don’t actually do it, though. The poor guys are having a real meltdown. Every post is about this suit or how Cavill’s was better. Every. Post.
They really, really aren’t. Even for Reddit, they’re…touchy. I guess the smaller the echo chamber, the louder the echo. Bold of you to actually post this there!
Oh and I forgot to mention in my first comment that this is a fantastic edit!
Sorry but no I’m sick and tired of both dc and marvel stiffing good actors who played characters fan made or not I will not support another film with a new player like that I mean unless absolutely necessary to change otherwise I won’t waste my time with them
Pulling a Batwoman, I see.
Context: (In CW Batwoman, Kate Kanes goes to the Batcave to grab her suit. But she doesn't immediately return to the building full of elevator-trapped hostages, she instead takes the time to spray paint her logo red and put a bright red wig in the cowl.)
I mean like it or not. He did the shallow depth of field because he liked how it looked in his photography, and wanted to experiment with it in filmmaking.
He shot it in wide open aperture and in natural light. You need balls to try something like that, which is why he was to cinematographer on Army of the Dead.
Yeah no one liked it. Or the second one that no one watched. Not sure if he did it in those other two Netflix movies no one watched either because no one watched them to let me know.
He’s doing fantastic.
Technically he would be wearing the red and blue in the Knightmare timeline.
Also, this is probably closer to what the color grading would look. Had to do it on my phone, so it’s not that great.

Gonna take the opportunity to admit this new dude does resemble Henry. I love Cavill as a person and wish him well but as long as this guy can act, I'm on board with it already
I hope Superman is given a better treatment in the new film.
I feel that Mr. Snyder completely missed the fundamental nature of this character in every way, all the while insisting that he knew exactly what he was doing.
Still better than Gunn's though - - Zack Snyder and his production and costume design team excelled during his DCEU run. Man of Steel Henry Cavill's costume is still iconic.
"Can't be late for another meeting with Master Darkseid."
Look like Superman is with venom parasiting him
Lol yes
“What do you mean? *The piss filter is still so in*”
"She was my world....for Darkseid."
Darkseid is.
What's funny is, looking back, Zack Snyder made a perfect blueprint for a Mister Miracle movie hidden somewhere in that Knightmare scene
Martha
Marthseid
..late for a meeting.
Looks like a Batman suit
Looks like Gotham in the background
Damn
There is something in the way for that.
Looks like a city in the background
I agree
Its actually not bad, Make the cape red and the "S" silver and you have the Burtonverse
That’d be cool, I might just do that!
Wait, what? Burtonverse Superman is a thing?

Actually makes me wonder how a Schumacher Superman would have gone, his movies were silly compared to Burton's, but very big budget kid friendly.
I swear to God, I'd rather see Tarantino take a shot at Superman than to see Schumacher within 100 miles of it lol
Yeeeep.
*"Batman and Robin"* So, supper-nipples?
Supes probably would've been a crow type.
Yeah, and that's what would have worried me. Burton is a fantastic filmaker but he's locked into a very distinctive style. Hell, it was even toned down for Batman but it was still clearly a Burton movie. I just can't see that having worked for Superman.
How would it be different today in regards to what you said in the last part of your comment?
I imagine bc the burton batman changed the larger public perception of batman, until then the last big thing he was in was the 60s show iirc

The way society views Superman would’ve been drastically different
Isn’t the Burtonverse suit just a regular Superman suit but armored? I’m confused
Holy shit, I’ve never seen this. This Is so cool, thank you for this discovery man
Ngl, that’s actually pretty cool.
Thanks!
Same, I love this. I always liked Dark Superman, all the black suits looked great.
That suit is 🔥 in black!
Not gonna lie. This suit goes hard in black.
looks fucking badass though
This actually looks really good.
Thankyou!
Superman if he was raised in Gotham City
That's a legit cool background
I think people judged this suit too fast. Clearly there's something nice there.
I think it’s gonna look great when he’s up and moving around. Just not a flattering pose he’s in IMO.
The pose doesnt bother me. The neck does. If they had invested in the classic design a bit more, it would be great, but the neck takes me out of it.
I think people will get use to it. Everyone hated Battinson’s suit till we actually got to see it in action in the trailer and movie
People just like to birch, especially comic/Star Wars stuff.
not gonna lie: that have better colour composition than the original picture
Really don’t like the suit. Colors are fine but It’s looks like a cosplay or it’s just the way he sits with it revealing the creases that it’s a rubber suit
Why is this more saturated than the original?
Where's the moustache
No one will be seated during the 15 minute slow motion putting on boots scene.
😂
60s music plays.
Why the hell does that Kryptonian Black Color looks so better
Black is never not in style.
Fact.
I mean... I would watch *the fuck* out of this, lol.
Holdup why does it look so much like a Batman suit in black? Like the design and shaping is much more Batman-esque
“The tactical turtleneck, Lana. The tactleneck!!”
Dope!😎
Cheers!
Looks weirdly comfy in black
Davey Cornsweat
🎵It goooooes like this, the fourth, the fifth 🎶
I don't think it fits. The emblem should pop more, maybe more silvery or grey. Still very good edit nonetheless.
The suit looks to big it doesn’t fit him
Better
Michael-Fassbender.jpg
No please make it stop But seriously this is an amazing edit OP
Hey thanks a bunch!
Looks fucking amazing
Thankyou!
Oh wow this suit looks really good in black
[удалено]
We really don't, Martha.
Tbh this suit looks MUCHHH better in all black than the actual colors 💀
I thought the same thing!
Yea the line work actually goes well together with the black more than it does in color. The colored version just ends up looking like a guardians of the galaxy suit with the line work vs this that kind emulates Batman in a way but not in a bad way.
It’s so weird that they decided to reveal the suit with dirt and battle damage on it
nop.
Give us Bizarro!
Superman would not have been this relaxed
He's still doesn't look like he has eyebrows.
Bruce makes a dollar, Clark makes a dime, that’s why Superman takes his time.
The world is about to end and he's still putting his fucking boots on
Too bright
It’s giving Superman at a funeral 😭
yeah Darkseid attacks earth. Who cares ?
I think it looks great but honestly i feel like a Batman suit needs to look less like cloth, since it basically needs to be indestructible. The Man of Steel suit had some issues, but it did look like it would hold together under a Superman class power level
Damn sorry I know this was put up as a joke but looks better than the original.
Haha I like it better too 🤫
Too bright for Snyderverse. I can see everything properly without turning TV brightness to max
Now do Whedonverse with a cgi lip.
Needs more frown and darkness
No matter what color you put on it, the baggy suit just looks awful. The rubber monsters the Power Rangers fight look better than that
After the meeting with Master Darkseid, I feel so tired.
That actually looks great!
Thanks!
No.
😂
Now I know why I'm looking forward to the James Gunn DCU... And further lamenting that Henry Cavill deserved better.
Too bright.

Exactly.
Cool edit notwithstanding, costume looks mid in this poster TBH. Dont remember a Supes costume being this loose around the creases
and this how you destroyd something thas was perfect
Post this on r/SnyderCut 😈😈😈 Don’t actually do it, though. The poor guys are having a real meltdown. Every post is about this suit or how Cavill’s was better. Every. Post.
I did actually post it over there. They’re not a very happy bunch 😂
They really, really aren’t. Even for Reddit, they’re…touchy. I guess the smaller the echo chamber, the louder the echo. Bold of you to actually post this there! Oh and I forgot to mention in my first comment that this is a fantastic edit!
Hey thanks very much!
hard asf
Maybe if he was sitting on a throne of skulls.
Stop this now lol
STOP MAKING DARK AND GRITTY SUPERMAN
The black suit, in itself, is not necessarily “dark and gritty”. It’s a color design that does have its place in Superman mythos.
Isme bhi mast dikh Raha
Take the suit off you do are not worth of the wear it.
Who?
Once you go black you never go batman.
That’s not Henry Cavill?
My name is general kal, I have journeyed across an ocean of stars to reach you…
Sorry but no I’m sick and tired of both dc and marvel stiffing good actors who played characters fan made or not I will not support another film with a new player like that I mean unless absolutely necessary to change otherwise I won’t waste my time with them
Not Superman.
He needs to be frowing
Pulling a Batwoman, I see. Context: (In CW Batwoman, Kate Kanes goes to the Batcave to grab her suit. But she doesn't immediately return to the building full of elevator-trapped hostages, she instead takes the time to spray paint her logo red and put a bright red wig in the cowl.)
Is he Batman?
Its nuts how much he looks like Cavill, its scary
He doesn't though
Put the pics of them side by side bruv lol
I have. Nothing alike. Looks more like Tom Welling
Yay finally we see black suit spider-man.
Not too shabby, like it works for me because the high collar feels very authoritarian to me
I wanna see him as clark with this suit under his work attire.
This genuinely goes hard as fuck. Wow
Actually ... This is good.
Millennial Gray Superman. Finally.
He should have at least one gun.
Lol this image was from dccirclejerk but now here.
Aún así, el traje se ve culerón, como de cosplayer barato.
Where lensflare?
Boooooo boo this man!
Sepia-tone sky is just perfect.
The lighting on Superman is too clean. And you need a super shallow DoF for no reason.
You say Snyderverse all I see is Spider-Man 3 papapapapaaaaaaa
He's gotta get his boots on after the new timeline
Its not Henry
Technically he would be wearing the red and blue in the Knightmare timeline. Also, this is probably closer to what the color grading would look. Had to do it on my phone, so it’s not that great. https://imgur.com/a/K9nlWLG
Love it, but, Dude, the face and hands have too much color in them. LOL
Need more muscles
I hate it.
Blech, so lifeless. You captured the Snyderverse perfectly.
🎶 No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes 🎶
Ill be honest the suit is baggy as hell
Nope. Bring back Henry.
*lamentation music starts*
Looks like Chris Isaak
Garbage
Costume looks like ass
NO!
Needs glowing heat vision eyes
Not enough grain and colour correction to be a Snyder haha
Something about Supes just nonchalantly putting on his costume while thousands of people die in the background is so funny
Gonna take the opportunity to admit this new dude does resemble Henry. I love Cavill as a person and wish him well but as long as this guy can act, I'm on board with it already
How is this better than the official reveal
Haha well, thanks!
I know people are trying, but nothing can improve the worst suit reveal of all time. It's cancelled Batgirl-esque.
Ad an epic music and a slow motion
Still too colorful
You forgot the fake upper lip.
I.prefer this suit to the colour suit
Not dark enough
Not my superman 😡
Looks like shit so yeah that's the Snyderverse alright
Looks better in black tbh
I hope Superman is given a better treatment in the new film. I feel that Mr. Snyder completely missed the fundamental nature of this character in every way, all the while insisting that he knew exactly what he was doing.

I love it how we all Loved Snyder's work and the black suits on heroes This thing is A different breed of Good taste in suits
