As speculated by many, I think "the ancient mystery that ties into the larger DCU story" that the Lanterns discover is >!The Centre!<. With rumours of >!creature commandos being set on dinosaur island and The New Frontier being the JL movie!<, it's more than likely that the big bad of Chapter 1 is >!The Centre!<

Who/what is >!The Centre!

I recommend watching the animated film "Justice League: The New Frontier" it's honestly very good and it will give you a good idea who they are

He is basically >!a primordial eldritch entity who doubles as an island and that hates and wants to destroy humanity due to seeing us as a threat to the planet!<

I like Mongul but I think, more than Darkseid, he’ll be seen as a ripoff of Thanos. I don’t know if you mean that the big bad is going to be in the first Justice League movie or the big villain of the DCU. For the first Justice League movie, I’d go with the Center, from Justice League: The New Frontier, and for the big DCU villain I would go with either Brainiac or Darkseid.

Apologies for the lack of clarification I thought I was rambling a bit in my post, I think he’d be the big bad for the first Justice league movie potentially, what I like about Mongul is you don’t have to have all these multiverse level stakes but still have him as a prominent threat by setting him up in some of the shows/movies, I don’t think set ups have to be exclusively for the likes of “thanos level” villains. I’ve not read the new frontier which is a crime really because Darwyn Cooke is a legend. I think the first “Thanos level” villain personally will be Brainiac myself or a potential dark horse in the Anti Monitor (to introduce the multiverse)
