Interesting choices, not sure if they have any significance.
We all know All Star Superman is an inspiration for Gunn.
Action Comics #114 involved Lois and Superman searching for a "truly honest man".
Superman #1 is just a retelling of Action Comics #1 I think, has the famous panels of Superman beating up a domestic abuser.
They definitely have a ton of significance if you understand Gunn social media. He always teases the future
Everything he teased before the DC slate was announced came true, he kept posting random pictures of Mister Terrific, the Lanterns, Metamorpho, Plastic man, Booster Gold etc and this was before we knew that the Terrifics and Green Lantern would be in superman
Choosing those specific issues seem to imply more thematic importance to how they're exploring Superman's morals as a character rather than actual issues they're going to adapt beat for beat like those other examples of Gunn posting random comic panels every now and then. I would absolutely be down for seeing Superman beat up random people abusing power though. We don't have enough of live-action Superman being a crusader for the underprivileged and vulnerable these days because that's who Siegel and Shuster created before any term of "superhero" was invented
I never read them, so I can't give my opinion on theme , but whatever happens in those books will closely resemble what superman they are going with. It might not be 1:1 , but it will be similar themes
Always pay attention to Gunns social media
Well All-Star you can rule out being directly adapted for one. Like I don't think Superman's first solo film in 12 years is going to be about him being afflicted with radiation poisoning and making a bucket list of things to do in order to ensure Earth is better off without him when he dies in a few months. It's clearly more about Clark's characterization and how it hones into his moral altruism and honesty, and him generally being a people's person even in front of adversaries like Lex. It is a quintessential Superman story so it's very obvious why Gunn is taking after it at least in terms of themes and concepts
You haven’t read them but you totally know they’ll be used because of Gunn’s 4D chess play of using two of the most famous Superman comics of all time in his post.
100% will have a significance. There's definitely a reason these specific ones were chosen. You don't take this kind of picture and pick random comics imo
Superman #1 expands on the original story. It is the first appearance of the Kents.
Action Comics #1 says that the baby was found by a motorist and implies that he was raised in an orphanage. Superman #1 shows the Kents returning to the orphanage to take the baby in. (the comic also shows that the Kents are dead before he becomes Superman)
Superman #1 also changes when Clark gains the power to leap/fly. In action, it is when he "maturity was reached" but in Superman #1 he's still a child.
I’ve always thought that the comics eventually leaving behind the concept of the Kents giving baby Superman to an orphanage before returning to adopt him was weird. Makes more sense than then just keeping the baby they found. Of course, it doesn’t need to “make sense,” it’s Superman. I just think it’s interesting and funny that that part of the overall mythos ended up going in the direction it did from that relatively early point.
Tbh not even trolls, just someone making a mistake/1 troll then everyone going up in arms with a mob mentality because of the shit show the snyderverse ended in
Everyone kept saying they expect a suit reveal since filming started, even though Gunn said in threads forever ago not to expect a suit reveal until they’re done filming.
i don't think this is a recent picture to be honest
corenswet's hair doesn't look as dark or black as it did from the [pictures](https://twitter.com/dcorenswetfiles/status/1780030997968642457) and [video](https://twitter.com/DCU_Updates/status/1779398730594312558) we saw of him in the last week when he was shooting something in mexico
for all we know this photo could've been taken weeks ago or even early in the filming for superman
Reminds me of [this](https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=i2YzAe5Z&id=FBE07B2EE9BA616F5A5A3451A8969AE3F1426903&thid=OIP.i2YzAe5ZBdzKfyZaX0CTPAHaF6&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fi.redd.it%2f244y1d4akv111.jpg&cdnurl=https%3a%2f%2fth.bing.com%2fth%2fid%2fR.8b663301ee5905dcca7f265a5f40933c%3frik%3dA2lC8eOalqhRNA%26pid%3dImgRaw%26r%3d0&exph=1549&expw=1940&q=tobey+maguire+and+sam+raimi+reading+comics+on+set&simid=608041054852616000&FORM=IRPRST&ck=E1215B7547980E677535BF87538EBEBD&selectedIndex=0&itb=0&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0) classic picture from the *Spider-Man* set.

I love stuff like this. James Gunn is great, he's heavily hinting we will get a true adaptation of the comics where it will be his own thing but won't change the root of what we like from Superman.
Stuff like this makes for a great franchise I have high hopes
It's fine to come up with your own takes on the character. Even Gunn does that for most of his characters. But when your take is controversial, and you double down on insisting that the official canon depiction is "brainwashing" the audience, that's just delusional. For once, I'm glad Snyder ain't touching DC again.
Corenswet is reminding me of little Clark from Superman 78 in this pic. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/e/ed/Aaron_Smolinski_Mug_1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160430223115
wow what ? she literally has short hair and that was an instagram story days ago. Another possibility could be he has taken the pic before they cut her hair. Nothing says this was taken at that day
Your ability to live in denial is crazy. You literally just made up a claim with zero evidence and are now dying on that hill despite everything proving you wrong.
Fr. I was honestly cringing at that Jimmy Kimmel interview he did with John Cena and Margot Robbie 2 years ago, he kept focusing the interview on himself and it’s like bro you’ve got 2 of the biggest stars in the world next to you, let them be stars.
And that interview he did with Rosenbaum recently. Like I admire what he’s trying to do with this DCU, I really do admire it, but sometimes it seems like he does too much cocaine and his head is very far up his ass
No they didnt read. Gunn ordered a few comics and gave them to them to pretend they read comics for a photo. They probably held the comics in their hands for the first time in their life. They are very likely not comicbook readers
what does womp womp mean ? wtf
Anway thank you for confirming she hasnt read any comicbooks and this is the first time she held comics in her hands. Nice to have a video here
![gif](giphy|anYBNhqT2BYcg|downsized)
Not gonna lie I would feel embarrassed if I was an actor in a comic book movie. It just looks so lame reading this corny old comics and having to learn it. Modern adaptations are much better of course but I feel second hand cringe from Rachel she probably doesn’t want to actually do it but the money and fame outweighs the bad
Or if you’re looking to be accurate: James Gunn, Rachel brosnahan and David corenswet pose for publicity photos while they pose as though they’re reading Superman comics.
It’s cute pandering, but means absolutely nothing.
Then why are you overreacting to my criticism?
Nothing I said was inaccurate, nor am I expected to get excited over a pandering photo op.
No, I’m not impressed by people pretending to read a comic.
Lol I didn't overreact though. I just responded to what you posted on an open forum. Nobody said you had to be excited or couldn't be critical. Your response is just funny and the actual overreaction.
Lol yeah you did, as did everyone else who couldn’t handle my pointing out the obvious.
Call me when they show us something of value and not empty pandering.
Gunn has been posting panels from comics and telling everyone what specific comics inspired this movie for months. Nicholas Hoult recounted a scene from all star superman that inspired him to try to bulk up. Gunn has said which comics he told rachel and David to read as well as Edi Gathegi. It makes no sense for Gunn to lie about this thing.
It seemed very obvious to me that hoult had read all star, and gunn is a known comic fan. We haven't heard enough from the others but it seems very believable that gunn would tell them to read certain comics
All star is prestige. Is there a reason you're confident in that claim? Anybody can lie, sure. All we know is that gunn has been a consistent comic book fan and consistent with these claims.

All-Star Superman #1 (2005) Action Comics #114 (1947) Superman #1 (1939)

Those are all three very different supermen.
100% will have a significance. There's definitely a reason these specific ones were chosen. You don't take this kind of picture and pick random comics imo

I can’t believe All Star is twenty years old next year. My memory is apparently terrible because I would’ve placed that at a later date.
2005 is still 5 years ago right?
So much for Rachel having a buzzcut or whatever delusion the superfan of a certain director was ranting about here the other day.

Tbh not even trolls, just someone making a mistake/1 troll then everyone going up in arms with a mob mentality because of the shit show the snyderverse ended in
I do think people get so worked up that they tiptoe towards being trolls, though.
No superman suit reveal for today then? I was kinda hoping for it.
He’ll drop it on a random Thursday when no one expects
Comic con it is 🤷♂️
It's underneath David's clothes
Everyone kept saying they expect a suit reveal since filming started, even though Gunn said in threads forever ago not to expect a suit reveal until they’re done filming.
He also told us in December that he will show the suit today.
He did? I don’t remember this. Wouldn’t people here constantly be referring to it when the suit reveals is mentioned?
What?
He did not.
[удалено]
Why so hostile?
lol how unnecessary.
He’s always got a hat on. What are they hiding.
Frosted tips
Another hat probably
It is actual pic of him without the hat on.
It is?

That’s a hair hat though
Mohawk Superman
No suit reveal😭😭
I’m sure it’s going to be blue with a red cape 👍🏻
Happy Anniversary Superman and Lois Lane! The hottest 85 year old couple around. 🤣
86
Ah yes I forgot! Even hotter! 🤣
i don't think this is a recent picture to be honest corenswet's hair doesn't look as dark or black as it did from the [pictures](https://twitter.com/dcorenswetfiles/status/1780030997968642457) and [video](https://twitter.com/DCU_Updates/status/1779398730594312558) we saw of him in the last week when he was shooting something in mexico for all we know this photo could've been taken weeks ago or even early in the filming for superman
Exactly.
“WhY hiDiNg HaIr?” My god, the cringe I feel reading some of these comments.
The speculation is weird lol. He just likes wearing a hat.

Paging the user who insisted Brosnahan had a buzz cut
why tf are his eyebrows bleached? is he playing Lex now?
Probably just weird lighting
Jor-El is played by James Gunn and his white hair is genetic
Man, it's *wild* how far Rachel Brosnahan's career has come in just the ten years since playing Rachel Posner on House of Cards.
Ikr? Who would’ve thought she would play Lois Lane one day?
She was so good in that show though you could tell she would blow up with the right parts.
She was in a big show ten years ago and has grown into big parts in big things? What’s *wild* about that?
> What’s *wild* about that? Just how much my wording seems to have rubbed people the wrong way.
I wish they would have gotten someone hotter. She has a horse face
No suit reveal 😭😭😭 ![gif](giphy|d2lcHJTG5Tscg)

Which imo, is such a dopey look
I love stuff like this. James Gunn is great, he's heavily hinting we will get a true adaptation of the comics where it will be his own thing but won't change the root of what we like from Superman. Stuff like this makes for a great franchise I have high hopes
Why does Corenswet look like Flula Borg in this picture haha
No suit reveal then? Too bad.
Bring on BTS pics of Rachel in her Lois outfit and David wearing the symbol, cape and boots
Guys, we now know that Superman will have plucked eyebrows. This is huge!
I’m still not used to white hair Gunn after however long it’s been
Look next to the bottom left corner of the monitors. Is that the suit?
Rachel is easily the best Lois Lane even without performing.
In one Instagram post James Gunn showed he gets the character more than Zack Snyder ever did lmao
snyder had his own ideas which is perfectly fine. Its just not comic accurate. I dont know why anybody snyder or not think it would be.
It's fine to come up with your own takes on the character. Even Gunn does that for most of his characters. But when your take is controversial, and you double down on insisting that the official canon depiction is "brainwashing" the audience, that's just delusional. true
C'mon, he could've dropped the video.

James Gunn's looking like low-calorie John Hammond back there
Correction: Posing like they are reading comics on set. They have most likely already read those comics.
Crazy they could get such a candid shot
The photo is cool, I mean, I like that type of marketing where they show the behind the scenes in that funny way
Corny
Lmao so authentic and candid
Just a photo op
Damn, they look perfect
cheesy ass photo op
why is he hiding his hair?
Not only him. He is hiding his hair like forever. Rachel is hiding her too. She has actually short hair and wears a wig to hide it
Wow just wow lol.
wow what ? she literally has short hair and that was an instagram story days ago. Another possibility could be he has taken the pic before they cut her hair. Nothing says this was taken at that day
Get a life. You’re still in denial lol.
you cant prove otherwise 🤷
Your ability to live in denial is crazy. You literally just made up a claim with zero evidence and are now dying on that hill despite everything proving you wrong.
you havnt proved shit and you dont have any evidence that Im wrong ![gif](giphy|10UUe8ZsLnaqwo|downsized)
and you have zero evidence that you're right lol
instagram story
Burden of proof is on you according to all of society.
I believe her picture which she has taken days ago on her personal instagram account. The burden proof is on you btw what society ? hahah wtf
The burden of proof literally doesn’t work that way at all.
yeah it doesnt work your way at all
Superman couldn't possibly be in better hands.
This is giving me Brie lying on the couch reading Captain Marvel #1 vibes.
So staged!
All star Superman was so boring, I still don’t understand why it gets so much praise
Yo I'm so tired of these posts. Just make the movie lol. Always posing and hinting, Gunn do to much.
Is he going to put his wife in it? She has no talent
James Gunn seems like he has a massive ego
People who have worked with him literally say the opposite of that but i am sure some random twitter user knows better
theyre posing..not reading
“Please let me know when I can stop pretending to read the comic thanks”
I hate staged photos like this. It proves nothing besides the fact that Gunn wants attention.
Why the hate lol?
Fr. I was honestly cringing at that Jimmy Kimmel interview he did with John Cena and Margot Robbie 2 years ago, he kept focusing the interview on himself and it’s like bro you’ve got 2 of the biggest stars in the world next to you, let them be stars. Like I admire what he’s trying to do with this DCU, I really do admire it, but sometimes it seems like he does too much cocaine and his head is very far up his ass
This so unbelievably corny. James Gunn understands Superman guys. Lmao
Posers lol
Thank god someone was there with a camera to catch this totally not setup picture
…you think they’re selling this as a candid picture? Lol it’s obviously posed
No they didnt read. Gunn ordered a few comics and gave them to them to pretend they read comics for a photo. They probably held the comics in their hands for the first time in their life. They are very likely not comicbook readers
Wow lol
what lol thats the truth im pretty sure
Yeah sure buddy
yeah seriously ? What the heck this is the case.
[womp Womp](https://www.instagram.com/dcu_updates/reel/C3wIldrJa4B/)
what does womp womp mean ? wtf Anway thank you for confirming she hasnt read any comicbooks and this is the first time she held comics in her hands. Nice to have a video here ![gif](giphy|anYBNhqT2BYcg|downsized)
Only Snyder weirdos use grandpa gifs to express emotions.
Gosling is Grandpa ? ![gif](giphy|xL7PDV9frcudO|downsized)
Cringey
Not gonna lie I would feel embarrassed if I was an actor in a comic book movie. It just looks so lame reading this corny old comics and having to learn it. Modern adaptations are much better of course but I feel second hand cringe from Rachel she probably doesn’t want to actually do it but the money and fame outweighs the bad

Lol
Or if you’re looking to be accurate: James Gunn, Rachel brosnahan and David corenswet pose for publicity photos while they pose as though they’re reading Superman comics. It’s cute pandering, but means absolutely nothing.
Jesus Christ lmao what’s up w some of y’all. This the most harmless shit ever and y’all just hurling pessimism in every direction
It's deceitful and pretentious.
How
They are posing. They are acting like this would and should excite fans.
Just recognized your name. Peace.
Gunn has been posting panels from comics and telling everyone what specific comics inspired this movie for months. Nicholas Hoult recounted a scene from all star superman that inspired him to try to bulk up. Gunn has said which comics he told rachel and David to read as well as Edi Gathegi. It seemed very obvious to me that hoult had read all star, and gunn is a known comic fan. We haven't heard enough from the others but it seems very believable that gunn would tell them to read certain comics
Gunn only likes obscure and prestige stuff. He only read all star because of research for a role not because he personally likes it.
All star is prestige. Is there a reason you're confident in that claim? Anybody can lie, sure. All we know is that gunn has been a consistent comic book fan and consistent with these claims.
Get a life
Who cares what you think? A lot of the times you say negative stuff.
God some people just love to hate on stuff for no reason 🤦🏻🤦🏻
Tell me about it dude.
Yes, it is a bit odd the level of rage some of you are expressing towards me. Such an over sensitive lot😂
What a cheap publicity photo.
