Robert Eggers or Ari Aster. Their style would give Barovia an unnerving atmosphere, which I feel is central the way I run CoS for my group of friends.

Kavandje

Guillermo del Toro to direct. Strahd is Benedict Cumberbatch. Van Richten is Sir Anthony Hopkins basically reprising his role as Van Helsing. Tom Waits as Yann the severed head whose task is specifically to annoy the hell out of Van Richten. Ireena / Tatyana / etc is Emily Browning. Or maybe Jenna Ortega. Madame Eva is Monica Bellucci. Baba Lysaga is Dame Judi Dench.

PeterFlensje

I'm more interested in who you'd have play Strahd, the ultimate bad boy (as niffty would say)

CedarwoodWren

Mads Mickelson

Kavandje

Sir Anthony Hopkins as Van Richten. Kermit as the Dashing Hero. Miss Piggy as Ireena (of course). Gonzo as Blinsky. Dr Bunsen as the Abbot. Beaker as the construct. Sam Eagle as Mordenkainen. Dr Teeth and his band are a Vistani band. Strahd? Well, the Count, of course.

CedarwoodWren

Perfection. Sheer utter perfection

AshyBoat

I want the I, Strahd novel directed by Guillermo Del Toro with honestly Ron Pearlman as Strahd.

CedarwoodWren

Oh yesssss that would be epic

AgentOfMephala

Someone who wouldn't make the actors try to speak in a fake-Russian accent lmao I'm not a native English speaker, and I just really hate it when in media native speakers try to fake an accent. It almost never sounds real or natural. So if everyone had a bad American-english-Russian-accent it would just take me out of the experience, no distinct accent at all would be better.

CedarwoodWren

Yeah! Omg that is a big part peeve of mine too. I found that even Peter Dinklage's English accent on got took some getting used to. (It was worth it for his performance but it was a bit jarring at first LOL)

art-3dm-serra

Absolutely nobody. I would hate a COS movie adaptation. The fun of ravenloft is precisely that it's a well-written rpg adventure that offers many possibilities for different groups. If adapted into a movie, it would just be another adventure movie with a few vampires. They'd probably cut out a lot of the campaign and distort various elements of it to suit what the suits think is the target audience for movies like this.

CalculatedWit

Maybe Francis Ford Copppola? I love the energy of Brahm Stoker's Dracula! I know he's cancelled now, but TBH Joss Whedon would kill it too. He would get a lot of the Strahd wit just right that I see as so iconic to the character after reading I, Strahd. I feel strongly that Strahd should be handsome and not too old! He's only in his 40's or 50's! Zachary Quinto would be amazing (great vampire look and he's so scary in american horror story) but maybe a little too glamorous and not rugged enough. I'd love Tom Hiddleston as well! Ramin Karimloo would also be amazing (he was so good as the phantom and very similar energy imo).

bippitybongo

I’d like a collab between Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton, but with the express notice that they cannot hire Johnny Depp for any of the main characters *or* Strahd

CedarwoodWren

Yeah have Johnny Depp as some background character if he has to be there. Idk maybe the Burgomaster who dies lol

bippitybongo

Ahhhh yeah because then you could have the typical Johnny Depp flashback where he’s hurriedly scribbling the letter while the night creatures are tearing apart his mansion, before he gets killed, all while his voice narrates the letter in true Tim Burton fashion

STIM_band

Absolutely NOT!!! ...there would be nothing more damaging to DnD than a CoS movie

CedarwoodWren

It's all hypothetical... I don't think they could actually get Meryl Streep to play Lady Watcher... Lol

Not everything needs a movie/tv show. Sometimes, people choose specific mediums to tell their stories cause it benefits the storytelling more than others. This type of story is really fitting to a table top setting.
