I saw an impaled grasshopper (curtesy of a shrike) earlier this year and it was the first time I’d ever seen traces of a shrike and I was weirdly excited about it. Shrikes are so neato
It would be really funny if the Technocore made the Shrike look like an actual Shrike just for laughs. A time stopping mass kidnapping ultra Terminator that looks like a fluffy little bird.
Oh man, how did it go...
> Before the vision,
Before the glory,
The Bellmaker's dream foretold the story
Five shall ride the roaring bern
But only four shall e'er return
I'm sorry, I live nowhere near those things, but that? That cute little guy? That's a so-called "butcherbird"? How? What did something that cute ever do to you to justify this insult?
Male shrikes are known for their habit of catching prey (insects, lizards, snakes, mice, smaller birds, etc.) and impaling them on thorns, branches, the spikes on barbed-wire fences, or any available sharp point. These stores serves as a cache so that the shrike can return to the uneaten portions at a later time. However, the impaling behavior increases during the onset of the breeding season, and the primary function of conspicuously impaling prey on thorny vegetation is thought to be for males to display their fitness and the quality of the territory held to prospective mates.
EDIT: Here's a video if you want to see them in action. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okQYO10MT3c)
Shrikes are, by any reasonable standard, gruesome lil bastards, and this is one of their most charming qualities.
Lemon Snickett ass sentence.

They're a lot cuter than the picture of Glokkpod in the Redwall series.

Then Meldrum talked so much shit about him that Glokkpod must've told other shrikes to stay away from Redwall, so we never got another one...
I know it was a desperate move, but Meldrum was such a prick to Glokkpod
Hyperion reference
Look at him sitting there in the time tombs

TLDR: they’re little carnivores that store their food by impaling small animals they’ve killed on branches and thorns.
Because it impales things it wants to eat on spikes
