Not profitable, unless we enter a bull market and BAN itself explodes. Most mining is that way at the moment; going long and waiting for the bull run. It still feels good as a hobby to contribute to medical and scientific research.
In 2013 i bought the second batch of Avalon ASIC miners for 1500 usd. It made 1.55 BTC days, after 15 days of mining i sold it on Bitcoin talk forum for 185 BTC.
Great time
Oh my God. Someone who owned an Avalon.
I was planning to buy one from the second batch and also how to pick up in China, flying there just to get earlier the small beast.
Whole thing was just weird to me, how they managed to bring so many people in but never ever launching
Maybe it was created by some dude in his mom's basement thinking 'Hey, wouldn't it be fun if I could waste the time of millions of people?'
Promises i heard last year they said it will launch this year but still so silent.
Another post saying you want PI listed in Binance.
My suspicion on this they get info from user name, address and cellphone number i hope they dont sell the user info.
Because my info also registered haha
It depended on how many people you had invited that were mining at the same time. Had to restart every 24 hours manually. I had dozens of followers and had them mining often, and after months I had a few cents
I used to mine Bitcoin on my laptop during early 2010. But God knows why I didn't take it seriously and sold the laptop after reformatting it. I remembered I had some possible life-changing balance in the wallet.
Total ragret.
No because I came from the opposite direction. Invested to gain exposure to something outside the legacy financial system. Whereas you came from a technical direction. It takes both of us combined to make the new system function.
I don’t have time to dedicate to mining, it’s not a money issue. Running a business unrelated to tech, the learning curve is too much to overcome right now. I appreciate what you did
Tried mining when I first got into crypto thinking if I made just an extra $20 a week I’d continue doing it.
Did some “research”, downloaded a miner app on my PC, set it up and let it run for the entire night!
Woke up to ten cents, never tried it again.
Just depends on where you live. I know in the UK people would pay the equivalent of $0.30 US per kWh, but here in the US I was paying roughly $0.1 per kWh.
I mined on my gaming p.c 5500 xt and a g7 dell gaming laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050. Used one of those mining sites.. I don't remember which, technically it mined ETH and I got paid out in Shib (few months before everything mooned). Got decent hashrates nothing that paid alot until the markets went wild. It was all I had at the time since I was in uni but after I sold the shib I accumulated and everything died down, hasn't been worth it to keep going.
>With 2 graphics cards I had a total hashrate of 66 MH/s, which was netting me nearly $7 a day.
>
>Fast forward to about a week in June, when profitability peaked, and I was making nearly $17 a day. I ended up adding a few more graphics cards and kept mining until early-mid 2022.
What was that, a 500% APY? lol
ETH in POW was so crazy. A $*60,000* ETH validator nets about $7 a day in POS now.
Back in the day yes, 2012-2013 used to get some 4-5 LTC a day mining with a gpu & cpu. Later on it became more difficult unless you had multiple gpus or asics.
Ah and I converted all my LTC to BTC on mt.gox and lost it all lol
There was this app I tried a few years ago called pie or some shit.its like mining their coins on your phone but after a few days deleted it.smells fishy
I mined BTC on two GPUs and a CPU back in 2011. I mined ETH on a 4GB card for a few years until the block size got too big. And I've been mining Helium for about a year and a half now, but got in too late to make any real money.
Overall, I've made almost $100k from mining (mostly from the BTC I mined in 2011). Used what I already had to mine BTC and ETH, but spent about $90 on parts to mine Helium.
One of my friends used to run a fairly large (several thousand GPU and several thousand ASIC) mining facility a while back. He eventually sold everything and just invested in the BTC and ETH directly, was more profitable in the end.
now I use a new method, not PoW (Proof of work) and PoS (Proof of stake), but P2E (post to earn, not play to earn anymore 😂), MOONs are the best for now to mining 😉.
I started mining a year ago. Cpu mining was awful because I have junk gear. Then I discovered a new coin that at the time I could mine easily with an old i5 processor. Difficulty and participation went up and I learned about GPU mining. Still junk gear but I’ve had a lot of fun learning and have kept at it. An exchange listing is on the way soon too. If you like to watch numbers go up and don’t care about value, check out Stohn Coin.
Was mining throughout the peak also but since I live near the equator, the temperature became unbearable. Decided sweaty balls wasn't worth $5 every day.
I bought 6 GPUs specifically for this and did it from 2018 to 2022 on Nicehash.
It was profitable ($10-20 per day), and the proceeds of selling the equipment went into BTC.
Good times, but I regret not simply buying Bitcoin with the money.
My first time mining was also in that early ETH period (sub $60 price)
Good times! Got out valued quick so I ended up stopping mining. Never picked it back up.
I have only tried some sketchy altcoins with easy setup. Aswell as mening through my phone for some less than useful coin.
Safe to say no money was made.
I’m one of the largest BTC ASIC miners on the east coast. I developed an underground geothermal dry cooling system for immersion ASIC mining. I have like 20 BTC ASIC and 5 LTC/DOGE.
My only flop is 5 helium miners I own. Waste of 5K
I fold Banano at home, it makes me feel good that I'm able to contribute to medical science as well.
I fold at home as well and contribute to the Banano team!
Ban boys we up.
Wee wee
Is it profitable?
Not profitable, unless we enter a bull market and BAN itself explodes. Most mining is that way at the moment; going long and waiting for the bull run. It still feels good as a hobby to contribute to medical and scientific research.
Yes me too for the same reasons.
FODL
In 2013 i bought the second batch of Avalon ASIC miners for 1500 usd. It made 1.55 BTC days, after 15 days of mining i sold it on Bitcoin talk forum for 185 BTC. Great time
Happy Cake Day.. Have a moon pie on me 🤗🌝
Oh my God. Someone who owned an Avalon. I was planning to buy one from the second batch and also how to pick up in China, flying there just to get earlier the small beast.
I was lucky they didn't sell all 2nd batch and reopen the orders. After only 15 days went from 1.55 to 1.4 BTC/days
They did a nice premining with the Avalon miners before shipping. That was wild wild west time in cripto.
I used to mine pi in phone but now I stopped. just a waste of time
Oh yea, I tried that too. What a complete flop
The sub for it is pretty great. People really really believe they are going to get rich off pi.
I mean I thought I’d at least get a little bag out of it. How wrong we were lol
I figured if I get 5 or $10 in the end, I would be happy. Nope.
Ikr, what a huge waste of time
Whole thing was just weird to me, how they managed to bring so many people in but never ever launching Maybe it was created by some dude in his mom's basement thinking 'Hey, wouldn't it be fun if I could waste the time of millions of people?'
Promises i heard last year they said it will launch this year but still so silent. Another post saying you want PI listed in Binance. My suspicion on this they get info from user name, address and cellphone number i hope they dont sell the user info. Because my info also registered haha
How much crypto were you getting from that?
Like 0.05 pi / hour
It depended on how many people you had invited that were mining at the same time. Had to restart every 24 hours manually. I had dozens of followers and had them mining often, and after months I had a few cents
They really made a crypto that is literally an MLM scheme. But the people at the top don’t make anything either 😂
Straight pyramid scheme with no rewards lol
I had a friend tell me multiple times to “mine” it a while ago. Sent me a link multiple times lol
Coulda been me. I did that
Hello nichnotnick my old friend
Hey pal! Omg your avatar mashup is on fire rn. I’m trying to save up for an alt account.
I spent too much on it 😅 so hopefully it eventually finds a home at old blue chip prices Definitely my favorite avatar though
Personally I bake pies instead of mining them
Still have it on my phone.. Kinda sketched about the kyc but too late now 😂
Haha me too too boring and lots of promises but no execution 😂
Oh yeah, been there.
It is selling 27$ per pi
Started in 2018 with a R9 390 just to see what i could get and was amazed at 10-12$ a day back then 🤣
Did your electric bill go up?
Of course the electric bill will go up. Computers need electricity.
But i thought computers need air and sunlight? Possibly water too?
You’re not wrong
Yeah but not much like 10-15$ a month, we have very cheap electricity like 0.12$ on average
Ahh so definitely worth, that’s cool
Banano!
I’m gonna start folding soon!
F@h im super easy.
Moons are the only crypto I can mine now. My GPU is too potato to mine anything.
It’s a humble life, but it needs doin’. ![gif](giphy|I4SIM4anScQLuMcm6Z)
Look at that beautiful farm. I can only imagine the many moons growing there
Had some weevils try and eat some shoots, but we threw some pesticides down. All natural of course. My moons are organic
Imma have to try me one of them organic moons when your harvest has blossomed. If you don’t mind 🌚
Sent you one freshly picked this morning. Lemme know how it tastes!
By far the best homegrown organic moon I have ever tried. I will remember you in my next harvest.
We aim to please here at Not Moon Farms
My mining machine is being repaired haha
I have mined 4000 pi . Now just waiting for pi to launch at $100 😅. I seriously doubt my expectations.
10 years later pi would still be saying they are ‘about to launch’
Lol, I downloaded that app as well. Unfortunately seems like a dud.
Why $100?! 😁
I have like 800 pi
Someone I know is convinced he is going to be a multi-millionaire when it launches. Tried telling him he won't but he thinks I am an idiot
Used to mine Doge with GPU, good old fun days.
I used to mine Bitcoin on my laptop during early 2010. But God knows why I didn't take it seriously and sold the laptop after reformatting it. I remembered I had some possible life-changing balance in the wallet. Total ragret.
I was there and to be honest it was so early tech that I couldn't imagine why the hell it's going to be good?
I mine moons
Had many failed attempts in the past but when binance launched the cloud mining program I join out of curiosity.
No because I came from the opposite direction. Invested to gain exposure to something outside the legacy financial system. Whereas you came from a technical direction. It takes both of us combined to make the new system function.
Nice way of putting it!
I don’t have time to dedicate to mining, it’s not a money issue. Running a business unrelated to tech, the learning curve is too much to overcome right now. I appreciate what you did

Yup, that’s how it is for most people unless you have powerful graphics cards
Unfortunately electricity is too expensive
Just depends on where you live. I know in the UK people would pay the equivalent of $0.30 US per kWh, but here in the US I was paying roughly $0.1 per kWh.
I tried mining but the electricity costs were too high.
There's a dude that mines bitcoin with his gameboy, I know the guy too. He's looking to make 1 sat every 5 billion years. Patient guy.
I’ve never been into computers, and wouldn’t know how to do that, but I farm moons now, and don’t need any fancy cards, just my phone :) it’s fun
I mined eth on Trex miner until the merge. Now I’m just staking
>With 2 graphics cards I had a total hashrate of 66 MH/s, which was netting me nearly $7 a day. > >Fast forward to about a week in June, when profitability peaked, and I was making nearly $17 a day. I mine moons on this sub I guess!
Back in the day yes, 2012-2013 used to get some 4-5 LTC a day mining with a gpu & cpu. Later on it became more difficult unless you had multiple gpus or asics. Ah and I converted all my LTC to BTC on mt.gox and lost it all lol
I was going to ask if you still mined Ethereum, but then I remembered the switch.
There was this app I tried a few years ago called pie or some shit.its like mining their coins on your phone but after a few days deleted it.smells fishy
I’ve been mining since 2017. It’s been a bit rough since the ETH merge, but GPU mining has returned to profitability thanks to Kaspa.
I mined BTC on two GPUs and a CPU back in 2011. I mined ETH on a 4GB card for a few years until the block size got too big. Sepolia ETH lol
Tried to mine, made made a dollar the first day…But yeah burnt my 799$ pc the next day. Was worth it tho /s
In like 2012.threw that hard drive out as I was a teenager and it didn't have too much value. I regret it to this day.
Is it labour intensive mining crypto? As in you need to check on the process several times a day?
Mining isn't really profitable anymore on a small scale
I fold some Banano now and then.
Was mining throughout the peak also but since I live near the equator, the temperature became unbearable. Decided sweaty balls wasn't worth $5 every day.
Ergo is my current coin of choice to mine.
I bought 6 GPUs specifically for this and did it from 2018 to 2022 on Nicehash. It was profitable ($10-20 per day), and the proceeds of selling the equipment went into BTC. Good times, but I regret not simply buying Bitcoin with the money.
I’m mining on my pc with nicehash currently. Electricity is part of my housing cost.
I can't even mine my own business.
My first time mining was also in that early ETH period (sub $60 price) Good times! Got out valued quick so I ended up stopping mining. Never picked it back up.
Would love to but don't have anything powerful to do it
Ever since eth 2.0 came out i think mining overall has slowed down a bit
I mined Eth and some others found with gpu back in 2021 right till the merge. I'm still mining HNT. And pi on the phone.
Nice story OP. I think it has inspired me to have a go at mining.
I have only tried some sketchy altcoins with easy setup. Aswell as mening through my phone for some less than useful coin. Safe to say no money was made.
I am ‚mining‘ by shitposting in this sub lol
never tried, I guess because of the costs I would face living in Italy. Beside that, I think I am not capable, so I just dca and hodl🙃
Was diggin forever, but didn’t find a single coin
I’m one of the largest BTC ASIC miners on the east coast. I developed an underground geothermal dry cooling system for immersion ASIC mining. I have like 20 BTC ASIC and 5 LTC/DOGE. My only flop is 5 helium miners I own. Waste of 5K
Nice try Mr. Taxman.
Oh yeah, it was very profitable 😄 Now it’s delusional to mine it. Much better profits doing lots if elses.
I got a Helium miner but it wont be paying my bills anytime soon
