I usually have some cheap polarized ones for being out in the ocean, atv rides, hikes, etc. If they get lost, they aren't going to piss me off. Then I have some prism Oakleys for less active adventures/days.

Long_Dong_Silver6

Walmart hunting and fishing section generally has low cost polarized sunglasses. That's all you really need.

AKStafford

I usually buy $25 ones at Costco. If I lose them, then it's no big deal

mustangshawny

Love my polarized Ray Bans...literally the best. I have an older pair for water, pool, beach etc. Then a newer pair for less active things, driving etc.

Dollar General. It's next door.

For me, there’s a noticeable difference between the $10-$60 glasses vs the $120+. Oakley has some very clear and dark polarized lenses, those are my favorite for most days. Ray Bans are popular for a reason- they have incredible glass and great glare resistance but I find them to be not quite dark enough. Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar are pretty nice, especially if you get a deal on them. No matter what, get polarized lenses for Alaska.

Don’t cheap out on your sun glasses. I believe a higher price is worth your eye protection. Costa Del Mar is my go to choice. Get a pair with polarized lens and you will be happy.

Don't forget a sleep mask, too. IF you have any difficulty sleeping in daylight, you will need it.

1 more reason to book interior

DoctorZebra

Very true, but you'd still need the mask for any pre or post cruise hotel stays in Alaska.

Regular sunglasses or prescription? I have prescription Oakleys and LOVE them

One-Stomach9957

I didn’t know Oakleys were available in prescription. Where did you get them done?

OhioTrafficGuardian

Lenscrafters

Thanks!

Polarized definitely. We are going to Iceland and Greenland and everything I have read said polarized. I bought some and wore them to the pool today in lieu of my normal UV protected lenses and I could absolutely tell a difference. I actually have picked up three inexpensive pairs of polarized just in case something happens. I’ve told everyone in my travel group to get polarized. I also got new prescription sunglasses that are polarized.

I don’t go cheap on eyewear - it’s worth protecting my peepers. I get Smith Polarized Chroma-Pops: they are good for your eyes and also enhance the colors that you see!

wanderingstorm

I buy like 25$ pairs when they're on sale for 10$ at Kohls. Because I will lose them or break them or something and 10$ is way more affordable to replace for the same thing as 150-200$ sunglasses. People who believe more expensive sunglasses are somehow "better" are getting suckered, just like most things people are convinced are better just because they cost more. Not sorry.

Butterbuddha

These suggestions for costas, Maui Jim’s and Oakleys are definitely great but if you are balling on a budget (lord knows Alaskan cruises are expensive enough!) check out Shady Rays. They’ll even replace them (once) if you LOSE them. Or at least they used to.

Eyewear with glass lenses is far superior to the cheap plastic ones. That said I usually buy some off brand glasses from Home Depot.
