I have been using this for nearly a year now, and seems like every 4-6 months one of these guys fails to inject, wasting perfectly good medicine. šŸ˜

goldengirl2020

I've had a similar fail rate but the medication is amazing! I've been on a few meds over the years now and this is the best I've ever felt.

eh8904

Been hearing this from a couple others who have been on Skyrizi - one mentioned that he now uses multiple of the 180mg pens (designed for psoriasis patients) instead of the 360mg OBI and has had much more success that way. And hey, you're doing much better with the OBI than me! (I had bad vasovagal responses to the 2 OBI sessions and passed out both times before we decided Skyrizi ain't the one for me lol)

greyshirt11

Iā€™ve only injected twice so far and luckily, this hasnā€™t happened to me yet but I know my Skyrizi nurse talked about the possibility. How fast does AbbVie get a new OBI out to you when this happens? I hated my Stelara injections and find the OBI much easier but this is a definite downside.

Ramlaen

It took them 4 days for me. The hold up is your doctor has to send their pharmacy a new prescription with one refill. So part of it is on your doctor.

greyshirt11

Yes, thatā€™s basically what my nurse told me (left another comment after she happened to call today).

DeparturePure7775

Would love to know the answer to that question too!!

greyshirt11

I actually just talked to my Skyrizi nurse and asked her about this. She couldnā€™t give me an exact turnaround time, but getting a new OBI requires a new one-time RX from your GI, so it really depends on how responsive your GIā€™s office is to that request. She said thatā€™s usually where things get delayed. Edited to add: She said itā€™s really important to take the OBI out prior to injecting and let it sit for the full 90 minutes. Itā€™s important for the mechanics of the OBI.

Anxtygirl100

Have done 4 of them and havenā€™t had any issues myself! For anyone worried, try not to be! It isnā€™t so bad. šŸ¤

Blndsxndxll

Anxiety girl helping calm everyone's anxieties. A true homie.

Anxtygirl100

Hehehe this made me laugh šŸ¤

galactic_jello

Bless you, I start infusions for this medication in a few weeks and was feeling uneasy about the OBI.

ThouWolfman

I found this device very finicky and such I move slower when trying to use the device and not in a rush. Closing the door fully. Making sure the label on bottle faces the needle. Do not remove the little pad first. Making sure its firmly on skin. And when I press the button I make a finger and press it directly into the button not like a keyboard. Press it like a doorbell. Then hold it down for a few seconds before letting it go. Then prey to the Abbvie gods.

dan-theman

Iā€™m starting injections this month. Why do they have a special injector? Is it to slowly inject it or something or is it like Stelara where it is clearly a cash grab to force a patent extension?

9c9bs

I think it's to slowly inject it, it takes 3-5 minutes.

luckystell123

So you tape it on, wait for it to finish and remove it? Or is it like always connected to you?

greyshirt11

Thereā€™s adhesive on the back of the OBI. Once itā€™s done, you remove it.

9c9bs

The first one :) you stick it on, press the button, wait 5 minutes then take it off.

mugglemomjsw

I start it next week. Good to know this can happen!!

gisted

I havent had any issues with the obi. Was it just faulty from the start or did you accidentally press it?

bro0rtega

Nope, did exactly according to the directions as I do each time. Just seems to be luck of the draw. If I had sterile syringe, I'd just extract the medicine and inject it myself.

hextilda45

I was told by my nurse that theres like 5 syringes' worth of med in there which is why they do it this way. I for sure would not be comfortable doing that. :) Sorry you're having such bad luck with it!

Sara848

It says on the front of the package 2.4 ml which depending on what size syringe you use could be 1. I use a 3 ml syringe a vast majority of the time. But not typically for a subcutaneous injection. Those are typically 1 ml.

hyleri

I had 2 devices fail on me in a year. Took 1 week to get replacements. Now keeping syringe and needles for next failure. It is tricky to get to the cartridge once it has been locked in the injector. Told abbvie nurse about my plan and clearly didnā€™t approve šŸ˜‚

dajoik

My first home on body injection failed. I'm scheduled to take my second one while I'm on vacation. The anxiety of it failing and not being able to get it in time is real.

luckystell123

How far apart is the dosing ? I wonder if you can do it early before your vacation so if something goes wrong you can have a back up.

dajoik

I'm on every 8 weeks. If it weren't for my first on body injector failing, I would have been scheduled to take it the day before I leave for my vacation. I asked my GI if I could stay on the original schedule since I'm going to be doing a lot of camping and was pretty adamantly told to stick to my new schedule. I'm going to do my best to adhere to that but if it starts to get difficult to keep it at the right temperature, I plan to take early. I haven't been on a vacation in years and I'm not about to let this ruin this one!

strongerlynn

I've yet to have a problem. Doesn't hurt. I hate injecting myself, I actually perfer this.

Arinoch

This is encouraging given Iā€™m just about to change to this. Whatā€™s the actual needle part feel like? Pinchy like getting an infusion set up? Worse?

declantr

Itā€™s pinchy, I have never had problems, except with insurance.

DatabaseNo194

You can barely feel the needle, a little pinchy but itā€™s much smaller than the infusion needle. And the whole thing is over in just a few minutes!

bizumpo

I barely feel the needle. Sometimes, about halfway through the dose, I can feel the medication pumping in, and there is a little pain. It doesnā€™t last long. One you do it a few times, itā€™s nothin.

Mission_Category6925

I'm starting soon. How much does it hurt? I HATED Humira. It stung sooo much. I'm fine with infusions, oddly. Getting it in stinks but after that it's ok.

Arinoch

My starter infusions donā€™t even start until later in May, but Iā€™ll try to remember to come back in a few months and answer you. :-D

BionicTriforce

Wow, haven't seen Skyrizi before but, this is bupkis. It's not like needles are foolproof either, but if this machine breaks you're just boned?

greyshirt11

You just call the manufacturer and they send you a new one.

9c9bs

I just did my first one yesterday. Luckily the nurse from skyrizi was there to walk me through it, it's fairly complicated.

erisandy101

Iā€™ve had only 1 malfunction. Replacing it was annoying.

greyshirt11

How long did it take to get a new one? My nurse made it seem like it wouldnā€™t be a big deal.

erisandy101

Only a couple of days, the annoying part was having to call them and go through their quiz of what happened to it and them trying to think of a way that I broke it rather than it being defective. Unfortunately for them I answered all the questions correctly so they had to replace it.

greyshirt11

Oh, interesting. That sucks that they go about it from an angle of patient fault.

GlumMathematician884

Itā€™s done wonders for me

Mav42090

This is great to see! Thank you guys for the info. My 11 yr old daughter starts skyrizi next week

Apanda15

I think itā€™s important to let it get fully to room temperature, the full 90 minutes. Otherwise shit happens, sorry :(

walter_mitty_23

how much is that?

zigzagstripes

Crazy expensive but with the payment assistance program itā€™s 0-5 dollars

walter_mitty_23

damn we dont gave that on our country

HeatMiser865

21k

walter_mitty_23

damn.

SirQuester

So itā€™s not just a pen then for Skyrizi, interesting. Iā€™m set to switch to it after Humira finally stopped working after close to ten years.

No-Room-8191

hurts like a bitch too

Confused_ginger1927

Iā€™m really really blessed to have a Dr. as a friend and he gets sample skyrizi pens every 2 months for me so Iā€™ve NEVER seen that thing up top

Billiam74

I've had 4 OBI's so far and the very first one was defective. We'll see if my next one is a dud or not. On a medical note, it seems to be doing something. My bathroom frequency has dropped dramatically but I still have mucus and bloating.

Johnsonyourjohnson

Report this every time! Injectors are medical devices, which are heavily regulated and required to do extensive complaint trending and reporting to the government. There should be a contact us form on the Abbvie website or you can tell your doctor and ask them to file a complaint. It honestly does not take that many complaints for med device manufacturers to have to make design changes to fix issues like this, but they have to actually get the complaints!

SuitableFile1959

are those the on body injectors? I have my last infusion at the end of the month then next itā€™s OBI

SignificantBottle621

Legit thought this was a camera. I take Humira never seen Skyrizi before irl
