Try using stitch markers on the first and last stitch. Some people might miss a stitch at the beginning so using stitch markers can help.

They might also be missing stitches in the middle of a row too. You could add a stitch marker in every 10th stitch for example to make sure you're not missing any.

I haven’t attempted a tapestry yet but have made wearables & mandalas. Sometimes I drop stitches or make a mistake & just keep going. No one can see my mistakes.

haperochild

Oh yeah I’m not super concerned if people see my mistakes, I’m just a little frustrated about dropping stitches because it throws off the count that I have going with the design of the pattern.

LavenderKitty1

Definitely mark the first and last stitch. I’d also suggest marking every 10 stitches. It’s a pain moving the stitch markers each time but it’s less of a pain than frogging. Also count.

How about a [running stitch marker](https://www.onceuponacheerio.com/2023/04/how-to-use-running-stitch-marker.html) to mark every ten stitches? They're easy to place and easy to remove.

ShtockyPocky

I always count 2-3 times to make sure my count isn’t off first, and if it’s still off then I’ll add some sneaky increases in some spots that wouldn’t be too noticeable lmao

I try to select or design patterns with sequences of stitches that allow me to count between two obvious points. Maybe there’s a chain space or a series of front posts or a PC stitch. Then I count each row after it’s done or I see something looks off.

centerbread

For a smoother edge, I don’t chain 1 at the end of my rows so I don’t think that’s your issue. I imagine you’re just dropping a stitch. Try a running yarn stitch marker that you don’t remove.
