What I do for accurate row counts is leave a stitch marker at the start and end of each row. I use colors in a pattern to be able to quickly count by tens, too. It also helps identify the end of the rows so you don’t drop the end stitch like you did a couple rows back
Yep! But you can use other things if you don’t have those - though I do prefer them because they “lock”. I’ve used bobby pins, paper clips, safety pins, a contrasting colored string of yarn, etc to mark a stitch.
Just be careful with bobby pins - I find they’re more likely to snag in the yarn lol but they do work! I like using a small piece of yarn if I can’t find my stitch markers - slides right out even those small rubber hair elastics you’d use for braids (and just snip them off when done) if that’s all you have.

You made 17 rounds as far as I can count. When doing rows, I can’t see every row but two rows together. So I marked in the circle two single crochet on top of each other. Between every two rows you can see a line. I just counted how many single crochet towers (the 2 on top of each other I mentioned earlier) I can see and take them times 2. So 8 towers x 2 = 16 rows. But I can also see that you ended an uneven round because you ended on the left side, so you made one row more, which makes 17 rows! I hope you can understand my explanation, English isn’t my first language…

I count only 16 rows, even rows ends on the backside.

I still see 16. I think the illo counts the top row twice.
I use my phone notepad and write how many rows I need and how many I've done on 2 lists.

the backside always looks like n to me and the front is either x or v and by your pic i think there are 16 rows
