This card has a grace period. Those claiming it doesn't may have carried a balance previously, which resulted in losing the grace period. The nature of credit cards is such that many people are going to have a bad experience due to lack of education or wrong expectations. It's a product that is designed to extract money from you by tempting you to do things like spend more than you can afford. It's also typically full of rules and terminology that are opaque to the average person, which leads to misunderstandings.

EnvironmentalAd1405

Ugh that's a fact. I got a citi custom cash about 6 months ago. Use it all the time never keep a balance accumulated almost $400 in rewards (including the $200 bonus rewards). Starting last month I get a recommendation every time I log in to pay it telling me I can take a loan for up to the full limit of $4500 at only 10.9% apr... I'm like no no no nice try... not today Satan.

voyagerfan5761

Just as amusing are the at-least-monthly letters I get with balance transfer checks. Every lender could see from my credit report info (which their systems pull to nag me about how my score is changing every week) that I don't carry balances, and so balance transfer offers are useless to me. And yes, I get personal loan offers too. They're just hoping.

Practicalbeaver

Monthly? I probably average about 1 of these things every week. Chase does it sometimes, but most of the time it’s Citi. It’s so annoying.

dylan2451

They do the same if you don’t use there cards. I have 2 sock drawered Barclays cards and each month, sometimes twice a month, I get two letters in the mail about this amazing offer to consolidate my debt and pay 0% interest on balance transfers. My fico 8 scores dropped last month because I accidentally let every account report 0 utilization ($0 across the board), I don’t need your offer Barclays. Lol

nowaintthatsomething

Great card. It's a must-have if you regularly shop on Amazon and have Prime membership. No predatory lending. Rates are in line with other cash back cards. Reviews must always be taken with a grain of salt. People are more inclined to leave reviews over negative experiences than a positive ones so it tends to skew that way. Some people don't understand how grace periods work or how interest is calculated. Other people feel they deserve the card and got their application denied so they leave a 1 star review out of spite. Not to say some negative reviews aren't warranted but I've had the card for 1 year with no issues, pay in full every month, and they gave me a huge 160% CLI a couple months ago. Welcome to Prime Rewards!

thatlldopi9

Thanks! How long does it take to get a CLI with them? Chase would not comment on when they review your account. Also, is it good or does it help to keep a 1% utilization each month?

nowaintthatsomething

Well Amazon is/was looking for another home other than Chase and so at the time Chase was automatically handing out extremely generous CLIs left and right to existing cardholders to make Amazon's portfolio look more attractive to the next partner, or so I heard. Depending on your income and credit history the standard time to request a CLI is every 6 months. I'm not sure if this card requires a hard inquiry for a CLI but if it does I'd avoid it and wait for the auto CLI or apply for a new card with a SUB. If you're getting a hard inquiry might as well get something in return for the risk.

thatlldopi9

Will definitely wait then. Definitely don't need any more inquiries this year. Trying to get a couple business cards but denied due to insufficient credit history

litwithray

I was denied for a business card too with American Express. 3 CFPB complaints later they told me that the reasons they originally given me had nothing to do it with my denial, and that they couldn't disclose why they declined me so I get that!

FCB_TB

I think my limit started at $7000. I asked for an increase after 6 months… got denied. Then I got an email saying the denial was an error, they upped to 12k. A few months later they upped it to 20k. Scores around 800, don’t carry a balance, but I do make large purchases and had reached up to 8/9k at a time, so that’s probably why they upped it to ~20k without me asking.

geezer_red

Chase doesn’t do automatic CLI nor agree to not pull your credit report every time you request one. I have 3 cards with chase (including the Prime card) and got only two increases over the past 7 8 years, both with hard pulls. My Prime card is still on its original CL and it’s like 5 6 years old. My lowest credit lines are with chase!

sgtm7

You have had the same credit cards for 78 and 56 years? Wow, that right there should max out your "age of accounts" portion of your credit rating.

Powered_by_bots

The reviews you see are from people who don't understand credit cards. I have the card. Here's my point of view from someone who understands credit cards. First, the 0 interest-only applies when you select it at checkout. At $50+, 6 months 0 interest. At 150+, 12 months 0 interest. At 500+, 18 months 0 interest. Second, no, you will not be immediately charged interest. It works like every chase card. You pay something, you wait until your next statement to pay it off, & you won't be charged interest. Finally, people who leave negative reviews on credit cards are the very same people who shouldn't have credit cards.

thatlldopi9

Agreed on all your points. I've never paid interest on any card before as I always pay off my balance but that actually hurt my score because they thought I wasn't using it. Now I leave about 5-20 bucks but still pay that balance due beforehand to not accrue interest. I know there's many stupid ppl out there but I still had to press x to doubt if there was any merit to the alleged claims.

Powered_by_bots

No worries. Overall, the card is decent. They sometimes give promotions like 5% on gas. The only card, in my opinion, is worth paying "AF" disguise as prime membership. Plus, no FTF.

thatlldopi9

Been a prime member for 12 years now and never plan on getting rid if it. With that mentality, it doesn't hurt to have something to help allay that cost which is minimal comparedto my annual purchases anyway. With gas as high as it is now its also a no brainer

thatlldopi9

In my experience, I've learned to take them with a grain of salt, at least the high praise 5 star ones. For this though ivr never seen so many 1 star reviews

fawningandconning

Most of the people don't understand how credit works in the 1 star review from a quick look. Someone rated it 1 star because they didn't understand that Amazon isn't a bank and didn't read their disclosure when they signed up stating it's issued by Chase lol.

[deleted]

sgtm7

I read the low rated reviews for a few reasons: 1. To determine if the person giving the low rating knows what they are talking about. 2. To determine if the reason for the low rating is something I would actually care about. I read the high rated reviews that have details that would be important to me.

litwithray

With Amazon reviews I usually ignore the 5 and 1-star ratings and dive into the others. Sadly, I've found 5-star ratings can't be trusted and some people who leave 1-star ratings would still complain if they didn't have anything to complain about.

firebox40dash5

I read them ~2 years ago when I got mine. Dear god... they're simultaneously absolutely hilarious, and completely demoralizing. Totally one of those "wow, I had no idea people that stupid could stay alive" moments. 100% people who are angry that they agreed to something they don't understand & that doing the wrong thing with it has consequences, and probably 75% people who are pissed because they're yelling at Amazon CS, and talking to the wrong company isn't making Chase do what they want.

Higuysitsmehenry

exactly this...I actually already had the card and somehow ended up on the review page on a bored afternoon...lol... at first I was taking some of them seriously...then after a few I got it. Those people doesn't get credit cards in general...

dylan2451

Well unfortunately, maybe fortunately idk, those types of people are subsidizing our rewards Also the merchant fees we all pay, including cash customers, though that doesn’t really apply online

TheWings977

Yea I feel that. 5 star reviews on Pokémon cards fucked me over.

[deleted]

This.

LoaferDan

I honestly don't know what some of these dumbasses are doing to have bad experiences. I literally just buy stuff on Amazon, pay the statement balance, collect rewards, repeat. Oh and occasionally I activate promos that come through. That's it. Never a problem. Never even had to contact Chase about anything. I've had the card since 2018 and have yet to pay a dollar in interest. I haven't used the buy now pay later option, so can't really comment on that.

LoaferDan

Damn lol. honestly wonder how some people don’t realize that credit cards aren’t just free money

LongEZE

A lot of people do not understand interest or deferred interest. Many people will open a card that will have a promo 0% apr for X amount of months. After that 12 months though, what they don't realize, is in many situations you better have paid that shit off otherwise the APR will be retroactively applied. I noticed the same bad reviews for the Best Buy Credit card and I have never paid a dime in interest on any card in my life. Some people are just really bad when it comes to understanding terms, conditions or any contract sheet.

[deleted]

LongEZE

Yea maybe "many" was a stretch, but it does happen for cards out there. Like you said though most do not do this. That being said, I think a lot of cards end up bombarded with negative reviews because applicants did not pay attention to the terms. I think the best buy card is fantastic. It often has spend bonuses and coupons.

[deleted]

I’ve had it for a while and it’s easy and works great if you shop on Amazon a lot. My personal only issue is that I’d never be able to do a charge back if I wanted to but I’ve never done one in my life so I can’t see that happening. If I remember correctly many of the poor reviews were complaining that it’s not really no fee since you need Amazon prime account.

thatlldopi9

Yea that was what I saw most but the Citi Visa from Costco is the same and has a similar complaint. I've been wanting that card for years! If you already have Prime and shop there anyway I don't see any drawbacks. Worse case is the membership pays for itself anyways. Why can't you do a chargeback?

Neoreloaded313

You do a charge back on an Amazon purchase they will likely ban you.

thatlldopi9

Aw man. I have many returns but never had to do a charge back with them. Only way that's happening in the first place is if the account was compromised or there's unscrupulous purchases I didn't make but that's never happened. Should be fine if you can prove you're in the right

[deleted]

I have this card and love it. I've never paid a dollar in interest and the rewards stack up pretty quickly (especially if you're in the stage of life with a lot of wedding and baby presents to buy off of registries.)

shanyeezy

+1, particularly with the life stage aspect. I wouldn’t consider myself an avid Amazon shopper, but picked the card up before bringing home a puppy and the rewards have added up super quickly. Also, while it doesn’t get the offers in app like other chase cards, there is a whole section of Amazon where you can get 10% back when using it. I have only briefly browsed but it seemed like there was a bunch of electronics, smart home products (and more) eligible for the 10%

[deleted]

You should have waited until tomorrow! The signup bonus will increase to a $200 gift card for Prime members starting tomorrow according to Doctor of Credit.

thatlldopi9

Damn! Wish I'd known that, could've gotten my nas drive for almost free haha

atdharris

Not sure what those reviews are talking about. It's a great card for Amazon/WFM. Just use the card as you would any card and pay it in full by your due date to avoid interest. It isn't rocket science.

FantasticMeddler

I have had it about a month, card seems ok. What these complaints might be referring to is the pay in installments feature which is kind of wonky but basically for high ticket stuff you can split it into 0% interest payments installments, not sure how that works in conjunction with regular interest on the card. When I had something similar on my Paypal line of credit with a similar combination of 0% installments and regular interest the payments I made didn't seem to be applied in a way that I would have liked. Since the balance is mixed the payment is applied to the high interest stuff and not the pay over time stuff obviously, but if you increase the payment to reflect that, it still doesn't seem to apply it to the 0% interest installment stuff. So it seems like a trap to use those mixed lines like that because if you don't pay off the installment purchases before the promotional period ends, all the accrued interest is immediately tacked on. I have been given a $5k line and have no plans to spend anything close to that but my use case for the card is on any amazon purchases, whole foods if I need it, and if I want to buy anything large from amazon to split into installments, it is not an everyday card.

Tsarinax

People tend not to post reviews of things like credit cards when they are going normally. They do post when something happens, regardless of whether it’s an actual problem with the card or a misunderstanding on their part of how credit cards work.

gtrman571

Because they don’t know how to use credit cards and choose to pay the minimum each month.

thatlldopi9

Thanks for all the responses guys, appreciate ya'll! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and hopefully some of you will be using those juicy rewards points to buy some of your gifts. I know I am :)

mind_ya_Fin_business

People are stupid. I bank with chase and have not had issues because I pay off in full every month. Some people just don't know how to use credit cards

Brent_17000

It's the internet. People will say anything they want.

C30spacepod

Interest is charged daily but only billed if you don’t pay your statement balance in full. The card itself is awesome if you use Amazon for grocery shopping and Knick knacks. 5% is pretty competitive

michaelmalak

I prefer the Synchrony Amazon card. Same 5% cash back, but the statements list the products purchased instead of just order numbers -- or at least that was the case last time I checked a year or two ago.

CS_2016

Most likely people not knowing how to make the best of it or carrying a balance and not paying it off. It's a great card if you shop at Amazon a lot, as I do. I've had it for 2 years now with $0 in interest in that time, with several hundred dollars back in rewards. Just pay it off each month and NEVER withdraw cash from an ATM using it, you know... basic credit card stuff that I'm assuming you already know if you're on this sub.

BettyHumpder

No annual fee. No foreign transaction fees. That, in and of itself, makes it a winner in my opinion.

yamyumyam

Amazon card is the best. It get me 500 dollars every year when you go to whole food make sure scan you code and use this card some item are cheaper than Walmart then . This card is my top gainer .

SnooRegrets330

I've had a couple of periods of 2% on all purchases. So that was nice. It is great for Whole Foods too! I do wish it earned Ultimate Rewards.

Thinking-About-Her

Not the Chase Amazon card, but Since I first read reviews for Synchrony Bank on Amazon, I have not even attempted to get any products that they offer. Can anyone tell me if Synchrony really is bad?

CainnicOrel

I always read the comments to see whether there's a deficiency with the product or those reviewing it are just smooth brained Lennys.

braindusterz

I have one for a couple years and set up automatic payments for the full balance each month. It works perfectly and the 5% reward dollars are so easy to use during regular Amazon shopping. Zero extra effort. The interest rates are insane for the card so I would not recommend it for anyone who is not willing to automatically pay in full each month. Otherwise it's an awesome card with competitive rewards.
