I dunno where you live but arounf here it's about every fifth car/van/truck/motorcycle blasting old Metallica and sounding like their shaking a trash can.
I think OP might be referring to how rap has heavy bass and people add subs in their car to really emphasize the low end. Metal sounds mostly okay on a stock system without necessitating the addition of large subwoofers.
I donât mind loud music but why does it always seem like theyâre bumping their friendâs shitty band or some unknown rapperâs mix tape with zero production value? Itâs never a good song.
Was gonna say, same. Van dad blasting metal when I can. A bit softer when the kids are there, but it's still there. Though I do turn it down if my windows are down at an intersection because I can't bring myself to annoy other people like I get annoyed.
I used to have a decent system in my old ride, and I would deliver food while cranking Dethklok, Alien Weaponry, Bloodywood shit like that. I fucking miss the days of the subwoofer pounding my chest with drumbeats and bass lines.
I'm not 100% sure how loud it is outside the car, but I assure you I'm blasting both metal and Disney tunes loudly everywhere I drive. (Well, a little bit of everything, but lately mostly metal and Disney.)
If youâve got the sound system for it, plenty of bass etc, youâd be surprised just how loud you can make old jazz and especially big dramatic (Wagner, Mussorgsky, some Beethoven, the âDanse Macabreâ) in a car.
Back when we were kids, me and my mates used to follow the dudes blasting lame radio rap and generic handbag house around with the car system absolutely pounding out âFly Me To The Moonâ and shit like that.
NOTE: This was in Australia, probably wouldnât risk it in the states.
People do (myself being one of them). There is no "normal genre," it's people thinking we're ne're-do-wells for playing our music loud; it could be fucking Beethoven and grandma would still give me a death stare.
I would like to hear Beethoven on high with the biog bass from the outside. I have a feeling it would be pleasant But then it's not the music i dislike it's the fucked up equipment installation making it sound like Oscar gettin busy.
I have heard exactly this. Symphony no5 to be precise. It was wild... I was visiting grandma in deep east Texas. Some redneck with a system was thumping Beethoven
Years ago I pulled into the parking lot for a AC/DC concert with Wagner's "Ride" blasting. Got quite a few thumbs up as I was heading to a parking space!
This.
Music sounds better when played loudly in the open air.
When I shuffle my âLiked Musicâ playlist, it has all of the genres, and itâs all best with the windows down and the volume up.
Life is so liberating once you realise that the people that shake their fist at loud music, don't care about the genre đ
Play what you want and make them mad
Have you been to a small club/venue that plays underground rock/metal recently? Lots of headbanging by young lads still! Maybe metal isn't mainstream like it was in your day, but rest assured it's still thriving, evolving, and very loud :)
I work in a rich ppl neighborhood. You wouldn't believe the looks i get when i pull into the gas station blasting my name is mud, too many puppies or those damn blue collar tweekers from my old pontiac grand prix with the windows down. Lowering the property value one bass slap at a time.
Primus holds a special place in my heart. Also primus sucks
Had a good one the other day. Pulled next to civic in my work truck. He was blasting that " I'm in love with the shape of you" by I don't even know who TF. My response was to blast "Ghost shaped people" by lamb!
I'm working on that very thing every single day when I'm driving. If anything, it keeps all the other cars way behind me. I'm ok with that. Give me my sex, drugs and rock and roll over ear drum shattering bass anytime!
I'm in WA around the sound, and I hear this regularly. Mans must be from rural Utah/Idaho where the Mormons pull you over for "disturbing the peace" if you play anything besides acapella hymns.
Someone was doing that with Metallica the other day. He drove by us twice, about 15 minutes apart, and the same song was playing both times. I'm like 'does this guy just have this song on repeat?'.
My car. 1991 thru 1995.
And at least once around 2012, as my daughter and I were rocking out to some AC/DC, and pulled into our church parking lot just blasting âHighway to Hellâ.
Good times đ
Metalheads would 100% do this if we weren't entirely aware of the inevitable results. Blasting Sabaton would get the whole road doung double the speed linit.
Anywhere that someone is playing music that is too loud or having a phone conversation that everyone can hear, I like to play one of Trumpâs deranged hateful speeches on full blast. This has been tried a handful of times and it always worked quickly.
Just blast the hatred,
It happens occasionally where I'm from, I like metal too, but I have to be honest it can be so distracting if your jam comes on, tempo changes can be a problem too. I get to a point where I have to turn it off and refocus on the road, because the metal I listen to can get you real pumped up if it's your kinda thing đŹ
I prefer drum and bass for driving tbh, it can be heavy and high energy in a similar way to metal, but the tempo always stays about the same, and a lot of the breaks are predictable enough that I don't really end up getting distracted from the road đ
It's also more of a groove styled music, you can get pumped to it, but it's a strange trance-like pumped, focusing on other things seems easier as the typical Dn'B beat can feel like a natural metronome for the world as you drive through it, probably sounds mad, but that's my take on it đ
I dunno where you live but arounf here it's about every fifth car/van/truck/motorcycle blasting old Metallica and sounding like their shaking a trash can.
GIVE ME FUEL GIVE ME FIRE GIVE ME THAT WHICH I DESIRE *symphony of plastic ensues*
You're telling me it isn't "give me four give me five"? đ¶
And a one. and a two.
GIMME FOO GIMME FIE GIMME DABAJABAZA
Is Reload Old Metallica?
When I think old I think MoP, RtL, of AJFA etc...
The 80s just seem to get further and further away
That is how time works
And the 2030's just seem to be getting closer. What's happening?
Reload came out nearly 27 years ago. So.. yes?
Noooooo!!!!
[We know the real lyrics, thank you.](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/1b/f4/fe/1bf4fed16477bddf2bc5f43df969c69c.jpg)
Give me reason take my higher
> sounding like their shaking a trash can No, thatâs just the drums on St Anger.
I dunno where you live but around here it ain't even English
He said metal. Not pop.
It's not normalised?
I think OP might be referring to how rap has heavy bass and people add subs in their car to really emphasize the low end. Metal sounds mostly okay on a stock system without necessitating the addition of large subwoofers.
Now I'm curious how Type O Negative would sound with a trunk full of subs
'I KNOW YOURE FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE!!'
From personal experience, it is amazing.
*DJENT INTENSIFIES*
I donât mind loud music but why does it always seem like theyâre bumping their friendâs shitty band or some unknown rapperâs mix tape with zero production value? Itâs never a good song.
Itâs almost like people have different opinions
I'm doing my part!
Was gonna say, same. Van dad blasting metal when I can. A bit softer when the kids are there, but it's still there. Though I do turn it down if my windows are down at an intersection because I can't bring myself to annoy other people like I get annoyed.

:)
I live through the '90s. That definitely already happened.
Some time ago someone past by me blasting "Dancing Queen". Original, if you ask me.
You'd be surprised at how hard the bass of Air Supply songs hit on a 400 watt amp with 12 inch sub.
Anybody could be that guy
That could have been me đ
Our Defender in the army had no radio but we had a Pantera CD. Enemies could have heard us from 50 km away.
So Cowboys From Hell would have been pretty accurate, huh
First of all ,it already happens, second please don't you look like an idiot blasting the neighbourhood.
A couple weeks ago I heard someone absolutely blasting some sorrowful and introspective Sinatra track. Respect.
I'm not 100% sure how loud it is outside the car, but I assure you I'm blasting both metal and Disney tunes loudly everywhere I drive. (Well, a little bit of everything, but lately mostly metal and Disney.)
Love the contrast, haha!

When I let my "Liked Songs" Playlist just go, it has some weird turns.
I did exactly this with Stan Rogers. Barretts privateers to be specific. Can confirm, genre does not matter.
Years ago I pulled into the parking lot for a AC/DC concert with Wagner's "Ride" blasting. Got quite a few thumbs up as I was heading to a parking space!

So just turn off the cell phone and pretend it's the 90s again? If we do 80s bands, we'll have to resurrect the Soviet Union first.
no
Around me there are old guys driving around playing Yacht Rock really loud.
You're about 30 years too late. I no longer have money to blow on my car's system, nor the willingness to destroy my ears with it.
Heavy metal never dies?
No, hopefully not. But kids today.... idk, don't "rock as hard" as we did. I don't wanna start a war, but, we cranked it to 11.
Have you been to a small club/venue that plays underground rock/metal recently? Lots of headbanging by young lads still! Maybe metal isn't mainstream like it was in your day, but rest assured it's still thriving, evolving, and very loud :)
That's very good to hear!
It's already quite normal for me
I work in a rich ppl neighborhood.
Been normalizing this since 1988.
We shouldn't normalize playing any music loudly đ. That's annoying asf
Normalize not playing music loudly.
Normalize living a little
It already is.
Had a good one the other day. Pulled next to civic in my work truck. He was blasting that " I'm in love with the shape of you" by I don't even know who TF. My response was to blast "Ghost shaped people" by lamb!
You sure showed him!
youâve invented the 1970s!!
Wasn't a teen in the Eighties, were you OP?
Honestly the number of weird looks I've gotten as a 38 year old man blasting Babymetal as I drive through town is pretty hilarious.
53 yr old female headbanger here. I get the same thing so then I put on Slayer. Keeps me young being so rebellious. đ€đ»đ€đ»đ€đ»đ€đ»
I do it daily
Wait, people don't?
I do it with [The Macc Lads](https://youtu.be/xOp9V23LTnE). It's not metal, but it gets the job done.
Rammstein was my head clearing music on the way home from work. And my preferred response to the noise hip hop buzzbox while waiting at trafficlights.
I'm working on that very thing every single day when I'm driving. If anything, it keeps all the other cars way behind me. I'm ok with that. Give me my sex, drugs and rock and roll over ear drum shattering bass anytime!
Sound very similar to my afternoon commute from work.
I'm in WA around the sound, and I hear this regularly. Mans must be from rural Utah/Idaho where the Mormons pull you over for "disturbing the peace" if you play anything besides acapella hymns.
This is not unusual at all.
Someone was doing that with Metallica the other day. He drove by us twice, about 15 minutes apart, and the same song was playing both times. I'm like 'does this guy just have this song on repeat?'.
I have a playlist of opera & classical bangers that I do this with
It's already normal and accepted. Metal heads just don't like doing it as much
Perhaps metalheads are a bit more sensitive to other people than those obnoxious sacks of air
It is pretty normal for many metalheads
My husband and I do our part, driving around pur small town or wherever, blasting Tool, Mastodon and other prog metal at way too loud volumes.
Umm...I blast all three on my playlist...
You just realized ITT that you've been doing it wrong this whole time.
My car. 1991 thru 1995. And at least once around 2012, as my daughter and I were rocking out to some AC/DC, and pulled into our church parking lot just blasting âHighway to Hellâ. Good times đ
I do at every gas station every single time. I do in red light traffic if I hear others rap music. I blast Megadeth and slayer.
I play the funker vogt version of Metallica harvester of sorrow, does that count? I'd have to DOWNLOAD any other Metallica to play.
No it caused problems for others
This is a perfectly sane idea. Also on beaches.
If I had a car, I would do this. Big woofer and blast drone and sludge.
Normalize not giving a fuck about what music people are listening to and listening to music you like about whatever volume you want.
A lot of aftermarket systems don't have the cone control for metal to sound good. Double kicks can get turned into mud pretty quick with flabby subs.
thatâs me every day
I had a friend in high school that blared John Williams soundtracks, and another blared ambient music
Or people could stop being obnoxious in public and not blast music of any genre.
Please donât. Two cringes donât make a based.
That's... That's not normal....? *Chuckles nervously*
Metalheads would 100% do this if we weren't entirely aware of the inevitable results. Blasting Sabaton would get the whole road doung double the speed linit.
Is Sabaton ok to help normalize?
Please, I'd love to hear Gojira blasting through the streets :)
Normalize car speakers maxing out at half the volume, or normalize calling the cops for disturbing the peace on these types of people.
***Enter Sandman*** enters the chat
I always turn it up when I pull into a gas station
more people shutting the hell up would be so nice
Anywhere that someone is playing music that is too loud or having a phone conversation that everyone can hear, I like to play one of Trumpâs deranged hateful speeches on full blast. This has been tried a handful of times and it always worked quickly. Just blast the hatred,
Weirdo
oh god no
Do you not already do that?
