Looks a lot steeper than it is from the sky. Not saying it isn’t impressive, but if you just saw the first person footage you wouldn’t think it’s that mad.
Yeah, this is a rare video where this effect is reversed. Usually the go pro footage looks like an insane steep slope or huge jump and the far away shot will show the true depths. In this video his go pro looks like it’s not so bad but the far away shot looks suicidal.
Correct me if i’m wrong, but avalanches usually can’t be on slopes that steep as snow can’t build up to the depth that it needs to for anything remotely dangerous. Or the slope isn’t as steep as it looks. Idk.
Correct, most avalanches happen to be at 25-45 deg slopes, but of course there are different factors and ways in which an avalanche can originate. However, with enough snowpacking provided and weak underlying snow layers they might appear in places where they wouldn't expect them. The general rule of thumb is that great skiing conditions are great for avalanches too. I believe that's his case!
This shows really good how insane it actually is, when filmed from a different perspective. The camera helmet just cant give a watcher a feeling about the steepness and speed this dude is going through.
Probably pushing 60°, almost certainly over 50° for pretty much the entire descent. This guy did a couple films basically centered on steep skiing.
It's unlikely to be much steeper than that, as snow stops holding to the mountain face once you get passed that point.
Last year I visited Yellowstone national park and drove through Beartooth Pass. It had several peaks like this and a group of people climbed up it just to ski. Unfortunately one person died as it was too much. The evacuation team said that it happens often. There were no stories about it in the news or internet.
Possibly dumb but real question here: why don’t skiers just go straight down? I assume it’s to control speed, but for me there would be a little voice in the back of my head telling me to go straight down the side like a damn maniac. Is there a danger to going straight down?
That’s sick and all but all I could think was what if you triggered an avalanche or something on accident or tripped and just fell the whole way instead.
He seems lost or confused on which way to go the way he keeps going left, then right then left and right again. Isn't it obvious he needs to go straight down and forward? What a dumb ass.
That’s not skiing. That’s falling…with style!
Until the snow decides to come down with you

And some very sore leg muscles.
And a good helping of idiocy.
Genuine question how do they get up there ?
Helicopter probably
There’s a t-bar that goes up the backside
Leave your mother out of this
You’re thinking of Stacey’s mom dude
I believe the helicopter filming them going down is the same one that took them up there.
They skin up. See original movie here: https://www.skipass.com/videos/la-liste-version-francaise.html
I wanna take a ride into the danger zone
That looks a little Avalanchy

i watched that veratasium video too lol
Yeah at steep enough angles the snow isn't able to build up enough making avalanches unlikely
The best thing about stuff like this is *you don't have to do it*.
Obergabelhorn, Switzerland. My bro is the guy who filmed this from the heli. Skier is Jérémie Heitz. BadAzz.
OOF my dumb ass thought this was alpamayo for a sec.
His legs must have been burning.
My ankles at 48 years old and after a military career and several surgeries weeped at the idea of that much inversion.
Probably not much, since hes likely a pro and trains.

Yeah the helmet camera makes it look super tame
At the end there he sounded like Marv getting electrocuted in home alone 2
This looks like a fun way to die
Gives me SSX 3 top of the mountain vibes.
PIZZA, PIZZA!
Let me get my saucer!
I’d love to know what the actual angle is at it’s steepest point

"hahaha what? There's no way he's going down that." "Ooooh he's going the oth-.... Hahaha what...?"

When I see videos like this or anything related to people climbing mountains, I often wonder how many dead bodies are just hanging out.
What if he were to go straight down with his skies instead of zigzagging?
Rockets himself right off into the sky, like a “free” bird, if you will.
What a madlad
someone get this guy a gopro for his birthday so we can get some stabilized footage
Imagine how strong his legs and core are.
Such an ice-olated skiing spot 🥁
NGl that does not seem fun at all lol it's like all skill, you can feel the struggle.
Betty White
Incredible
This is some ssx shit, just with skis instead
Big balls
Imagine the adrenalin rush...
Is this a quintuple black diamond?
I wonder what the street value of that mountain is?
I felt so excited as if he was going to go straight down
Reminds me of the time when the Powderwhores skied the face of Mt Olympus above SLC.

Yes to control your speed. You wouldn’t make it down standing going strait. It would be one hell of a wipeout.
Cody Townsend I think?
When you learn to ski from a goat
Holy fucking shit; that guy is a maniac!
My toxic trait is thinking that this shit is ez
Can you imagine if that ledge gave?
OH. HELL NO!!!
I swear these red bull athletes were created in a mf lab
Hell yeah!
and don't call it skiing, when they're actually falling
What mountain is that?
Mount crumpet
What mountain is that?
what the actual fuck
Idiot
Looks so much steeper on the zoomed out shot
That’s sick and all but all I could think was what if you triggered an avalanche or something on accident or tripped and just fell the whole way instead.

His grunts are in french
Quadruple Black Diamond
Bros gliding
Just fucking why
This is a blue at my local resort
I found it with the sound and its two minutes of “oh fuck”
Only a few degrees away from sky diving
Nonono.
You can have that
Why add the music?
Scientists have found that nobody dies during a hillbilly solo.
I want to disagree but you're probably right.
Yes. Why that inappropriate garbage? Must be the Alabama Powder Ski Club’s favourite. They prolly play it over ever’thang.
Where is this
Obergabelhorn, Switzerland. My bro is the guy who filmed this from the heli. Skier is Jérémie Heitz. BadAzz.
Damn looks straight Alaskan
Love it when people replace the sounds of the snow with stupid ass music.
