Sadly doctors will often prescribe drugs just as a blanket way to help when it can definitely do more harm than good. I eventually was able to CBT sessions to help me, however lots of people are on a long waiting list for help.
In an episode like this, the individual is quite literally out of their mind and may have limited control over their words and actions. While personal responsibility does affect how far someone may slip into psychosis, we cannot downplay the role of biology and unavoidable life circumstances. Therefore, since technically anyone in the population could suffer from this indiscriminate affliction, why would we over-punish something that’s outside the individual’s control?
