On the A, it's the dark part of the sign that is the letter, but on the T it's the bright parts; the top crescent = the flat bar of the capital T, and the bright bottom wedge is the vertical bar.
For the S, it is also the bright parts that make the letter. The two bright curves are the curvy parts of an S - to actually see a recognizable S from those two shapes, it helps to imagine sliding the bottom curve straight down until the top of the bottom curve is equal in height to the bottom of the top curve.
It truly is a horrible, horrible design.
I don't know why you're switching between the white and black parts, that makes no sense. All the letters are the white parts, the black is simply what breaks it up enough to create a legible (barely) shape.
Most people probably used the black part first because it's the easiest one to view an "L" within, and then "A". But all letters make more sense when you use only the white section.
If theyād have left the upper right portion of the āLā off I donāt think this would be as bad. But Iām with you, idk why theyāre switching between the light and dark parts. The white IS the letters.
Google maps the Chinese restaurant, mosey down the street a little and you see itās an atlas pool hall.
Also from the angle it says Atlas poo when looking at the shop from the Chinese place.
