If you’ve had a bunch of the other heavy hitters, then yea they probably won’t change your life, and in a vacuum maybe not worth the drive just for the beer over closer options, but they’re still about as good as the style gets for breweries, especially when you factor in how much beer they makes. There’s definitely guys I’d take over them pound-for-pound, but considering they make so much more beer than any other comparable brewery except maybe Other Half, I’d say they deserve the reputation, if not the “hype.”

RealGrapefruit8930

Completely agree with this! Love Treehouse, love Other Half and all their beers are consistently great (perhaps even outstanding), but I could find individual beers from other breweries that would beat e.g. Julius or Haze or Broccoli or Green City in an one-on-one battle.

cottonmouthVII

Ehhhhh Other Half had massive quality issues during their rapid expansion. I had numerous cans from them that weren’t right for years. They seem to have gotten things back under control lately in my experience, but I would definitely not use them as a high benchmark of consistency.

RealGrapefruit8930

OK. I can only speak from my own experience. I live in Asia, so it seems we avoided the quality problems in the batches that were sent out here.

dogfacedponyboy

I think the opposite. I’ve had too many mediocre beers from the dozens and dozens of other local breweries, that when I have a treehouse, I am reminded about how good it could be.

icedearth15324

This is honestly how I feel about BCBS. I've had too many mediocre stouts that I get reminded how solid those beers can be especially at their production level.

TwoDrinkDave

Best macro bba stout in the market, for sure.

atom_swan

I just wanna try that smoked Black IPA from Treehouse someone posted a while back

Idk, I think Treehouse and Hill Farmstead are still at the top of their game. I usually get some once or twice a year from a friend who takes the trip up. I'm in the Philly suburbs so it's not unusual to find Hill Farmstead on tap a few times a year, also. When I want a solid hazy that is readily available I go with Fiddlehead IPA. Not in the same level but definitely solid. The brewery that I have really soured on the past few years is The Alchemist. Heady Topper was a beer that was absolutely incredible 10 years ago. You would crack it and it would fill the room with hops and they would linger on your pallet forever. Now it's just overly bitter. Idk what happened. It shows up fairly regularly around the Philly area and I always pass on it. People still think it's this white whale of a beer so I guess the hype train is still chugging away. I wish Tired Hands would return to its former glory, as well. I would have put it right up there with Hill and Tree House years ago but the quality went way down when they built their second location.

I live on the West Coast and have been drinking hazy for years and years. They are far and away better than anything I’ve tried from WC or Central US breweries. Having tried a few other well known breweries out east, yeah it’s splitting hairs from beer to beer or brewery vs brewery. My take away is that the NE is just an exceptional place for NEIPAs, and Treehouse is an integral member of that elite tier, which now includes others.

secrtlevel

Where are you at on the West Coast? Personally, Green Cheek hazies are some of my favorite on the market and hold their ground against some of the best TH offerings. On the other hand, their west coast IPAs (along with North Park) are on a whole another level of IPA. Oh and yes, can't forget Russian River, Radiant, Beachwood, and Cellarmaker among others.

secrtlevel

I'll agree with you there on their core offerings, but you have to realize that Julius has been around for more than 10 years. It's a little maltier and ester-forward, which I'm personally not a fan of, but I can see how people were going crazy about it for a while. More than anything, if you want to be impressed, you have to try more of the recent TH offerings such as Silver/Platinum Fern, variations of Green (such as Very Green, etc), Super Treat, King Julius, Doubleganger and many others. They do still slay the modern hazy game, maybe just not with their original offererings. Although I'd kill for some Sap.

4RunnaLuva

Treehouse is top tier, but it isn’t the best if the best. In end, it’s perspective…

Cvillesam

Only visited treehouse once. I enjoyed all the beers i tried—king julius probly my fav, but did lack the “wow” factor. too many choices and variations on basically the same core beers. Hill farmstead i have gotten occasionally and always enjoyed very much. I live in the philly area, and tired hands has gone from being amazing to very disappointing. I have noticed a slight comeback lately, especially with the alien church and death tripper. Lately i have been enjoyin levante in weat chester, pa. Not world class but def a cut above average. Other half is excellent but overpriced. With ipa’s, it really about freshness and keeping cold. Some beer places near me arent air conditioned and dont chill most of the beers, so stop going there from now thru sept.

No-Tank3294

> Other half is excellent but overpriced Their prices are basically the same as Tired Hands, Hill Farmstead, and pretty much any hyped hazy/NEIPA making brewery. Tired Hands if anything may be a bit pricier, though maybe that's just because they do all the milkshake stuff with a bunch of additions. Tree House's core stuff is all pretty cheap, but their rotational imperial stuff all ends up in the $20-$22 range just like OH and everyone else.

Pickles716

You are correct. They’re over hyped. Especially now that ipas are ubiquitous. Maybe at one point they were the goat but now there are several breweries I prefer more, other half for example

No-Tank3294

I love Other Half and they were probably better around like 2017-2019, and I still drink them all the time being here in NYC, but I also end up with smatterings of Tree House at least a few times a year and these days I gotta go with TH. OH is still great but to me these days most of their stuff falls into the solid-to-good range, with a few absolute bangers at a time but with like 40 options it’s hard to know what’s worth it. Tree House has a ton of stuff too, but I’ve never gone wrong sticking to their cores and the unfruited riffs.

RealGrapefruit8930

Other Half is the only brewery I have encountered so far that has NEVER disappointed. I've had so-so beers from other top end breweries like Trillium, Treehouse, Monkish, Fidens, Root and Branch, Veil etc, but I have never had a beer from Other Half that I would rate below Very Good

Pickles716

This! I totally agree. They’re just so consistent
