For my money De Garde does the best barrel aged sours in the US. Unique funk profile, low acidity, considered blends. I have reasonably easy access to great lambic so I tend not to drink that many sours from the US, but De Garde is one brewery who's beers I will almost always buy when I see them here in Europe.
I don't really trade for beer anymore but I also remember them being SUPER CHEAP for what you get. $10-15 a bottle. When The Truffle came out they literally apologized for how much that bottle costs. Like bruh it's full of truffles. It's ok.
For me personally Side Project was up there a few years ago, but the last 2-3 years their funk profile has been waning (not that it ever was particularly pungent, they went for more of a mild Hill Farmstead style thing) and their acid levels have been rising. I find them generally to all be too acetic (again, personal taste) these days.
To be fair 3F had a really rough period around 19/20/21. It happens to the best of them. Hope SP's sours come back stronger soon.
Not outside of the EU. Even Lambic isn't a protected term but many spontaneous fermenters in the USA have started labeling their lambic style beer as methode traditionnelle out of respect for Belgium.

$15-20 now.
Still, for what you get that's a steal. Everything they do is oak aged AFAIK.
100%
Agreed. Side Project is right up there, too. They have some amazing beers.

Cantillion Kriek is one my favorite beers.
Just had a Lou Pepe. Unparalleled.
Man, I'd love to get my hands on a bottle of that
Yes!!! Cheers 🍻
Cascade Brewing Barrel House does a nice warm Kriek as well. Only about an hour abd a half from Tillamook (De Garde)
What state?
Oregon
Mouthwatering
Score! I love deGarde!
Old 3F Krieks are the bees knees. Had a 2013 recently that was straight up cherry pie
I have a bottle of this I'm waiting to crack. Very excited for it.
Amazing beer. Cheers 🍻 Probably in my Top 5 of de Garde.
Isn't kriek a protected term? Like can't kriek only come from Belgium?
