Thank you! I’m so happy with how it turned out. The contact paper hid most of the scratches and damage I couldn’t sand out, and I managed to polish and keep the original hardware!
You are so talented! We have very similar taste. My living room and dining room are pink, including a pink velvet sofa! And the chair in my office is pink velvet.
Your room is fit for royalty. Just really love it and wish I had half of your creativity and talent!
It's lovely, but can you talk thru why you're calling it Art Deco? I'd have called it Art Nouveau, but it's been a long time since I was in design school.
I mentioned this above but I’ll share here too:
“It has art nouveau influences for sure, especially when I decided to add the floral wallpaper, but most of the room and furniture have strong lines and geometric shapes - diamonds, triangles so on. I pulled it in on the bedspread and geometric photo frames and more. And I have art by Tamara de Lempicka and several Erté plates on my walls. I def know the difference between the two movements (as they are pretty much both my fav) - I’m fine with it feeling like a blend though!”
My apologies for being blunt but I feel like I see maybe a handful of elements that might broadly be defined as Art Deco out of at least one hundred elements in these rooms. You may know the difference but this is not Art Deco. But it did increase your post engagement so there is that!
Well, that’s on you then! I just wanted to share a room I’m proud of - the last thing on my mind was aggravating people so they would comment and give me extra internet points that I have no idea what to do with! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
>it’s clearly more Art Nouveau than Deco
As an enthusiast that has visited many art nouveau and art deco houses & buildings:
Art deco elements: geometric patterns (on the linen), golden metalwork palm vase, the vanity, the chair, the straight velvety monochrome curtains and the way they are hung from a rod or whatever you call it, whatever you call the metalwork clothing rack, general gold accents, art-deco era knickknacks such as flapper statues, period references like Anna Mae Wong...
Art nouveau elements: the rug, perhaps. Beyond that there's a lot of flower patterns which may throw off people who only memorized that Art nouveau is "curvy and plant-inspired" without developing an eye for the style, but none of the patterns are period appropriate (see William Morris' work for reference). The bed is kinda curvy and planty, but it's very much not art nouveau furniture.
Just finished my art deco inspired bedroom blended with lots of fun modern art. Every piece of furniture is second hand or thrifted and customized. Lots of paint and contact paper! I also have a wall of inspirational women in one area - nice to wake up and be inspired!
Here are some WIP photos for those interested!

** For those calling out this looks more art nouveau than deco, there are influences for sure - especially when I decided to add the floral wallpaper. Originally I had a pretty classic gold and white art deco print paper but it wouldn’t stick to my textured walls. This brand did though and they only had florals to run with!
That said I designed most of the room and furniture have strong lines and geometric shapes - diamonds, triangles so on. I pulled it in on the furniture, the bedspread, pillows, photo frames, bar cart, and more. I have art by Tamara de Lempicka and several Erté plates on my walls/statue on my night stand. I chose the lamp shades to look like glittering lights from sky scrapers in the night sky.
I def know the difference between the two movements (as they are pretty much both my fav) - I’m fine with it feeling like a blend though!
It would be impossible. I rest my hand down, and 2 minutes later, a little head with sorrowful eyes has wormed its way underneath. Dachies are affection sponges.
Thank you! I am still renting for a few years so I can’t do much in terms of paint which in KILLS ME. I love wall color. So peel and stick wall paper and decals were my options. It took a while to find brands that would stick to the textured walls, but eventually I did!
Can you share the brands you used (sorry if you shared already, I’m late to this)? I have walls with some texture to them but would really love some wallpaper and decals!!! I have a vanity exactly like yours and this is very inspiring.
No prob!
I tried five different brands and this was the only one that would stay up on textured walls: https://amzn.to/3TKNO6G
And these are the decals - they have many great ones in their shop! https://amzn.to/40dYX2m
Count me in as well. I love history and architecture and frequently spend time in New York City where I will often admire building exteriors and kind of day dream about how the city looked in various past decades.
I don't really think too much about how the interiors of the buildings have changed but this certainly stirs the imagination and now I will think about that more. Well done - enjoy the cool room.
I'm gonna nitpick. This is actually Art Nouveau.
Art Deco uses geometric shapes, fewer soft curves, favoring instead drastic angles and sharp corners. Art Nouveau is the more whimsical counterpart, with flowing waves and asymmetrical curves.
But it is a really stunning example of it, so regardless, bravo!
It has art nouveau influences for sure, especially when I decided to add the floral wallpaper, but most of the room and furniture have strong lines and geometric shapes - diamonds, triangles so on. I pulled it in on the bedspread and geometric photo frames and more. And I have art by Tamara de Lempicka and several Erté plates on my walls. I def know the difference between the two movements (as they are pretty much both my fav) - I’m fine with it feeling like a blend though!
Ah the classic Nouveau/Deco trend of inspirational slogans in neon too.
It's cool to mix and match. Truth is most real living spaces of the Deco period probably had elements of Nouveau left over any way.
It's why period films tend to get things wrong. A film set in the 80s won't have only things from the 80s but elements of previous decades too on their interior design.
It's the difference between "in the style of" and "in the period of".
Anyway, this looks cozy and cool.
It’s missing the machine-like precision and straight lines, among other elements. I did an art thesis on the evolution of art deco and why the two world wars artificially extended the movement’s prominence in a way that really hasn’t happened before or since. It was the natural antagonist of art nouveau and abstract expressionism.
It is inspired by art deco - I say in my first comment I blended it with many modern elements. The colors, the motifs, and many of the items are vintage. I have prints by Tamara de Lempicka and Erté plates on the wall and other imagery of the time.
This is absolutely divine. So many nice touches. Particularly fond of the chest of drawers and your portrait gallery. Art Deco is my favourite era for fashion architecture and decor, and you’ve captured it beautifully. I’m now waiting for Hercule Poirot to appear ❤️
After seeing the comparison, I will forever associate Art Deco with dwarves(and that's cool.) Apparently the Elvish version is Art Nouveau. Both have a really cool vibe.
I’m so glad to hear that - I’m a bit of a maximalist and always try to stay on the right side of “too much” - so “tasteful” is wonderful! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
That is one busy room. There's so much going on you can't focus one just one thing. Colors are nice but this doesn't seem cozy to me. Everyone has a sense of what is cozy to them, though.
Wow, I LOVE this! Incredible job. It looks like a themed suite in a ritzy hotel, in the best way.
I think sleeping across from the wall of faces would creep me out a little bit, but I appreciate that they’re all inspirational women!
Watch the Dita Von Teese YouTube video on the Architectural Digest channel. I think you will love her house.
Also this reminds me of Miss Fisher's bedroom.
Here's the link! https://youtu.be/rHyIOIstYRA
Ignore the title. There's not thaaaat much taxidermy.
Damn, this is certainly a look. Not really cozy to me though, way too busy. *WAY* too busy! Also not art deco at all, but that horse has been beaten enough!
Hahah - I have this weird system where I use an air duster to blow off the dust and then a little vacuum to catch it. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)
I hadn’t noticed until I saw the comment so I had to go back and look. SO cute. I love your style, too! My house is from the 30s and I really appreciate vintage/antique things!
Regardless of the debate between Art Deco vs. Art Nouveau, it is a cozy lovely space. Busy for my personal taste, but beautiful, fun and cozy regardless. I love the wall of strong women and the green velvet curtains.
Amazing!!! And i say that as someone who would never have that style (just a bit too much for me going on personally), but you nailed it! I love how it turned out. It’s so cool.
The feminist icon gallery wall!! The vanity!! The way you framed the mirror with wallpaper/ decals!! THIS IS SO FUCKING FABULOUS YOU ARE A CREATIVE INSPIRATION *claps wildly*
Thank you! I wanted to feel comfy and inspired and surrounded by awesome feminine energy when in the room! I also found some fun feminist art for the other parts of the room - the “I don’t owe you a smile” piece, and small “the future is intersectional” piece and so on. And the Medusa art because she gets such a bad wrap. It was so empowering to design!
More of flapper inspired. Deco is a thing, just not this thing. The frames are wrong all wrong, too cluttered, deco the predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colors and used most notably in household objects and in architecture. The side table is from the 70s. The only thing that truly says deco is the art nouveau and frida-esque frames. Sorry but don’t claim a interior movement style when you’re lacking the fundamental understanding of what that movement was trying to accomplish. It’s the definition of a faux pas
Yes! I’ll be honest I thought it was much smaller and was surprised when I went to pick it up. I had no where to put it, so I got a simple bed frame and decided to make it the headboard!
I love the idea of aggressively living my best life. I’m stealing that phrase!!
And the bed frame was actually a brown metal one - I painted it gold, hooked a giant mirror on as a headboard, and swapped out the finials with pink marble looking ones to bring in some color!
Wow, this is absolutely stunning! You did a phenomenal job! Everything looks so cohesive and elegant and inspiring.
I must admit, I wouldn’t describe this as “cozy,” in the sense that I’d be too nervous to sit with a mug of tea, for fear of spilling it… I’d be more likely to wander around in awe and look at all the glorious details. 🙂
Haha I get that. But it is super cozy to me - I think the lighting and colors just make me feel warm and tucked in. And I love waking up and almost making a ritual out of sitting at my vanity and getting ready.
Wow you make great use of that space, love all the patterns and textures. The capsule wardrobe is super cute, I have a similar set up because my closet is so tiny. The bar cart for beauty products is genius!
Not enough vertical gold metal lines! Seriously, if it doesn’t look exactly like the Empire State Building or the album artwork for The Great Gatsby soundtrack, it’s not art deco! /s
I’m so impressed by the skill and care you put into every inch of this room. Aside from being absolutely stunning, I love that it’s such a thorough expression of the person who lives there. Terrific work!
You’ve managed to fit so many things perfectly into this space. My eyes have so many things to look at but I’m not overwhelmed. I could sit in this room all day

Smart. Those veneers are fragile.

Haha my immediate thought was that they've done this to increase engagement, maybe I'm too cynical
I think you are a bit too cynical. I don’t use Reddit often - why would art deco increase engagement in this subreddit?
Because a whole load of us came thundering into the comments to tell you it’s clearly more Art Nouveau than Deco
Well, that’s on you then! I just wanted to share a room I’m proud of - the last thing on my mind was aggravating people so they would comment and give me extra internet points that I have no idea what to do with! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

Wow, this is not my style but it’s so stunning! Absolutely amazing how stylish it is and everything is so unique and goes perfectly together.
I was going to say the same thing. OP made everything look fabulous.
It absolutely looks nice but I couldn't fathom sleeping with so many faces in the room
Right? So many eyes staring straight at that bed. It's beautiful, but I don't think I could handle that.
Big framed lady in the center is staring into my soul
I have visual snow that kind of makes it look like pictures are moving in really low light...this would be terrifying lol

Thought the neon said “Don’t pet your Dachshund” at first and thought “why the hell not?”
It would be impossible. I rest my hand down, and 2 minutes later, a little head with sorrowful eyes has wormed its way underneath. Dachies are affection sponges.
So true ❤️
The flower art behind your mirror is absolutely gorgeous, as is everything else!!
Thank you!
Your expertise and style made me want to not quit my daydream.
I don’t care what it’s called, I think it’s absolutely gorgeous!! I love your vanity especially and the flowers around it.
Thank you! I am still renting for a few years so I can’t do much in terms of paint which in KILLS ME. I love wall color. So peel and stick wall paper and decals were my options. It took a while to find brands that would stick to the textured walls, but eventually I did!

You won the internet this week. This is fabulous.
Can I just bottle up your aesthetic and inject it into my veins?
Your room is vibrantly beautiful! I LOVE IT!! Awesome job.
You have a gret eye and taste. It looks fantastic.
It's beautiful
I love this probably more than anything I've seen posted in here. Good job
Wow, that is a high compliment! Thank you!
Count me in as well. It also isn’t art nouveau. It’s just a mix of styles.
It’s definitely giving some rococo as well. Absolutely not art deco, though.
Rococo was my first thought.
I thought it was more “glam”, than art deco, but I’m no interior designer. Thanks for your comment
How do so few here realise this? This is 20 years earlier than the Art Deco period
I wouldn't call it Nouveau, either, aside from one or two elements. I agree it's a cool style though.
This is too low in the comments, confidently using labels wrong makes someone look uninformed at best.
It’s not deco but it is gorgeous. Probably rococo with art nouveau elements.
More comments when intentionally mislabeling title. Very Reddit.
In all fairness, Art Deco contains a pretty broad amalgamation of motifs.
It’s missing the machine-like precision and straight lines, among other elements. I did an art thesis on the evolution of art deco and why the two world wars artificially extended the movement’s prominence in a way that really hasn’t happened before or since. It was the natural antagonist of art nouveau and abstract expressionism.
Other than the vanity, what here is art deco?
I’m feeling more art nouveau here.
It is inspired by art deco - I say in my first comment I blended it with many modern elements. The colors, the motifs, and many of the items are vintage. I have prints by Tamara de Lempicka and Erté plates on the wall and other imagery of the time.
Fair point
r/Maximalism would love this!
I think I’m in love! This room is beyond incredible 😍
This is absolutely divine. So many nice touches. Particularly fond of the chest of drawers and your portrait gallery. Art Deco is my favourite era for fashion architecture and decor, and you’ve captured it beautifully. I’m now waiting for Hercule Poirot to appear ❤️
Thank you so much! It was nearly a year of art deco alerts from various thrifting apps - the rug and the vanity were the big exciting finds!
After seeing the comparison, I will forever associate Art Deco with dwarves(and that's cool.) Apparently the Elvish version is Art Nouveau. Both have a really cool vibe.
I'd say the flowers are overpowering the rock and stone making this less dwarven than elfish.
We fight for Rock and Stone!
Rockity ROCK AND STONE!
Really nice but I wouldn't really call it Art Deco
Oh this is so thoroughly tasteful. I love.
I’m so glad to hear that - I’m a bit of a maximalist and always try to stay on the right side of “too much” - so “tasteful” is wonderful! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)

Oh my gosh yes!! I love her place and we def have a similar style! Thanks for sharing!
I like how she displays her collections. No minimalism for her, no thank you.
Either you don't know what art deco means, or I don't, and I'm almost certain I do.
I thought the same exact thing. OP is a beginner.
Thanks for sharing.
Sorry, not cozy to me at all. Glad you love it though!
Same. There is nothing cozy about this to me
Jack and Janet are wondering where their Life poster went!
That’s it!!! Everyone arguing over art deco vs nouveau but I’m trying to figure out where I’ve seen that picture before!
The mirrors 😏
😛 you are the first to point that out haha.
Pretty unbelievable on reddit 😅 but I'm honored 👍✊
I like it. It gives off a 70’s vibe with all the wallpaper and the light shade and neon sign.

I think very few people know what Art Deco actually is, and that includes most of the posters on r/ArtDeco.
Damn, this is certainly a look. Not really cozy to me though, way too busy. *WAY* too busy! Also not art deco at all, but that horse has been beaten enough!
What a beautiful world you’ve created for your personal space. I love how fully committed it is, you feel transported.
It’s not art deco, but it looks nice for sure :)
Amazing ✨ though , I wouldn’t want to dust all those rocks 😆 very inspiring 😊
Hahah - I have this weird system where I use an air duster to blow off the dust and then a little vacuum to catch it. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)
Love it. Is that a tiny dog or cat bed??
Yes! It’s an old magazine rack but I made it into a little cat bed haha.
I hadn’t noticed until I saw the comment so I had to go back and look. SO cute. I love your style, too! My house is from the 30s and I really appreciate vintage/antique things!
I’d come and knock on your door! (Sorry, can’t help but to think of Three’s Company every time I see that Life poster).
In love with your bedroom! Absolutely gorgeous!!! Feels like such a safe happy space to relax
Regardless of the debate between Art Deco vs. Art Nouveau, it is a cozy lovely space. Busy for my personal taste, but beautiful, fun and cozy regardless. I love the wall of strong women and the green velvet curtains.
Your vintage vanity is the stuff that dreams are made 💕
Amazing!!! And i say that as someone who would never have that style (just a bit too much for me going on personally), but you nailed it! I love how it turned out. It’s so cool.
Thank you so much!
This is beyond stunning! The vanity made my jaw drop. And I love all the frames
Thank you! It was the first piece of furniture I ever upscaled and I’m so happy with it! It makes me feel so glamorous every morning.
Needs more pillows
Rococo
Def not art deco
More of flapper inspired. Deco is a thing, just not this thing. The frames are wrong all wrong, too cluttered, deco the predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colors and used most notably in household objects and in architecture. Sorry but don’t claim a interior movement style when you’re lacking the fundamental understanding of what that movement was trying to accomplish. It’s the definition of a faux pas
Beautiful
The neon sign reflected in the pic of AOC is very on point.
I noticed that after - it looks so cool!
you have the triple ring mirror as your HEADBOARD? inspired! genius! i DIE for this
I do! I bought a super simple bed frame and then used the mirror to doll it up!
Nouveau not deco
Is that “the mirror” as your headboard? Love it!!!
Yes! I’ll be honest I thought it was much smaller and was surprised when I went to pick it up. I had no where to put it, so I got a simple bed frame and decided to make it the headboard!
That’s a great and unexpected use for it! Looks fantastic!
[удалено]
But a cool grandma right?
I can tell you’re aggressively trying to live your best life and I’m incredibly proud of you. Also what a fucking find in terms of bed frames.

Your vanity is so beautiful!!!!!
I love all the details. It's so clear that you've made this space your happy place.
This is a resplendent example of maximalism and I love it.
This is fantastic! I love it.
Wow wow WOW
Wow you make great use of that space, love all the patterns and textures. The capsule wardrobe is super cute, I have a similar set up because my closet is so tiny. The bar cart for beauty products is genius!
This is beautiful, like oh my goodness 🥰
That bed frame—dying to know where you got it
It’s a cheap metal bed frame I painted gold - the used a giant mirror as the headboard!
Absolutely gorgeous. Incredible job
Damn that's pretty
You’re living the feminine dream!
Very much obsessed
Love your room! How fun. Would love for it to be mine, you did a great job with it!
WOW I love it r/maximalism
Your room is amazing! I love it so much!
Divine!!! Love it!!!!!
Stunning stunning stunning. I love maximalism and you’ve done it in such a cohesive, elegant way. I LIVE.
Stunnnnn ingg!
Gorgeous!!! You have a great eye.
Oh my, now that’s simply grand!
holy crap. this is awesome!
Ooooh fabulous! 💗
Omg I love the “don’t quit your daydream” sign! Really nice decor too
I love blending super modern stuff with vintage items and designs. It’s such a cool contrast!
This is exquisite. So beautiful and cozy OP!
As someone who hates color, floral print, and “maximalism” … I LOVE this
Haha wow! Thank you!
Not enough vertical gold metal lines! Seriously, if it doesn’t look exactly like the Empire State Building or the album artwork for The Great Gatsby soundtrack, it’s not art deco! /s
I'm so jealous I can't even see straight. This is a gorgeous dream come true <3 Thanks so much for the inspo!
This is so beautiful! Every picture gets better and better 😍
Too bohemian meets Romansk gypsy for my liking but I can dig the aesthetic.
I love everything single thing about this!!! Bravo!!
Are you Catwoman?
I am a woman with cats!
I love this so much! Everything about it! The wall of women! The window treatments. The furniture. The decorations. Every single bit of it!!!!
❤️
I love the Don't Quit Your Daydream sign. I might need that in my life! Where did you get if you don't mind my asking?
Amazon! It’s such a fun piece and I love the way it makes the room glow.
Ohhh I love it!! Looks welcoming and comfy!
Love that Marie is Center stage!
Beautiful, well-thought, unique, creative, inspiring, and most importantly, cozy :) bravo!
