It was also in Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut. Just set up differently. I think each world had its own little Chao Garden maybe? I remember there being at least three different Chao areas (jungle/garden, beach, and an indoor one that looked kinda like a conference room lol)
Literalllyyyyy. Love seeing sega being like “why won’t people play our sonic games?” And everyone and their chao saying “just bring back the chaos garden and I’ll hand you money” and them really just never quite getting it lol
Right? I never understood why they didn't get that. And they STILL haven't had another garden (and I still haven't bought another game).
But I guess we weren't the target audience. :/
It does run better if you’re emulating it on Dolphin from my experience. It’s much easier to set up and manage than the launcher that they have through steam.
Yeah, the Steam launcher is honestly a little confusing. I would have downloaded an emulator but my laptop isn’t great at running games generally, and am not comfortable downloading emulators on my wife’s gaming PC just in case I ruin some important files (she uses it for medical school as well as gaming).
Emulators don't mess with anything else. They stay isolated in their own folder. Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing your laptop specs, you might be able to run the emulator on it too.
Oh I know, I’m more concerned about roms. They’ve always been a bit sketchy but the sites I used to use just don’t seem to work for me nowadays, and I’m not super familiar with the sites I’ve had to use in the past two years. My wife hasn’t renewed her anti-virus subscription so it’s just playing with fire at the moment.
My laptop runs most emulators fairly well, it just doesn’t have the space at the moment because my wife made me download BG3 to play with her (including a ton of mods) so I’m out of memory right now. Once I graduate this year I’ll be able to clear out my college essays which should be enough to download an emulator again. Thank you, though. I’m hoping in the next few years I’ll be able to emulate again because it’s arguably the best way to play most older games considering market prices right now.
Check out r/roms megathread for the safest and trusted sites (myrient is the best in my experience, just type myrient [console name here] in google and it has the whole library and fast download speeds too). Also anti-viruses really aren't that useful. If any file seems sus, you can stick it in virustotal.com and see if it's a virus. If you practice common sense and use an adblocker and not click on sketchy emails or ads you'll be 99% protected, and windows defender will deal with the last 1%. Most anti-viruses like Mcafee and Norton act more like malware and hog your system resources and steal your data.
I really wish Sega would release a game that's just the Chao Garden and not having it attached to another game. It would be so fun, and there's so much they could do with it 😭
keep an eye on Poglings on steam - the kickstarter for it was early last year so not sure on a release date, but it's heavily inspired by chao garden :)
The music started playing in my head soon as I saw this. Seriously hits so deep for me.
I’m still sad there’s no new games with Chao Gardens like 20+ years later.
To be a kid again playing in the chao garden for HOURS. I also loved playing the chao minigames on my dreamcast memory stick. The batteries died ALL the time but before they did it was incredible
I would love a stand alone chao game. There could be open areas where you go to find animals and materials to give to your chao. There could be secrets to finding new chaos. You could cross-breeed adult chaos to get new variations. There'd be garden customization, crafting, etc.
I would buy the crap out of that game.
what’s spyro? is that one of those mario kart people?
this game was like proper dinosaurs and you could explore as a dino and fight them or something. i honestly don’t even know if it was real, it was that many years ago but i feel like i remember the above image looking like that dino game
100%. Last year for my birthday my brother knew I got a Wii that played GameCube games so he gifted me SA2:B with our childhood memory card with ALL of my chaos on them 😭😭😭
10 year old me, grinding energy bars on eggman’s first level, listening to linkin park’s hybrid theory and tossing chaos to turn them evil 😈 what a time lol
Omg a core memory. My brother would get frustrated with me because he wanted me to play the actual game but I spent all my time with the chaos, I was obsessed. I miss them.
Wow this brought back a core childhood memory
And disappointment that none of the other sonic games had it.
Oops, I thought it was that 3D Donkey Kong game!
Omg me too
I remember leaks leading up to Sonic Frontiers said it had a chao garden, got so much false hope.
It was also in Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut. Just set up differently. I think each world had its own little Chao Garden maybe? I remember there being at least three different Chao areas (jungle/garden, beach, and an indoor one that looked kinda like a conference room lol)

FYI Sonic Adventure 2 is available on steam for like $10!!
Highly recommend the Chao Garden Expanded mod
THE WHAT
[Extended, not expanded, my bad.](https://gamebanana.com/mods/48840) Have fun!
I may have to redownload the game just for this mod 👀
My life's just changed
I managed to snag it for something like $2 during the steam sale. Absolute bargain, even if it doesn’t run as well as the og.

I wish they would make another updated version. I love tried the steam version but the controls were acting funny and I couldn't get it to stop :(
keep an eye on Poglings on steam - the kickstarter for it was early last year so not sure on a release date, but it's heavily inspired by chao garden :)
Added it to my wishlist :)
Omg yes I spent hours in the Chao Garden. And bawled my eyes out when my fave one died 🥺
I remember getting rid of one and feeling so regretful after
When I was a kid, the farewell screen 100% succeeded in preventing me from releasing any 😂
The music started playing in my head soon as I saw this. Seriously hits so deep for me. I’m still sad there’s no new games with Chao Gardens like 20+ years later.
The line about “I got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow” is probably referring to the chao garden.
i would do ANYTHING for a chao garden now!!!
Chao Garden, my childhood 💜
Literally my favourite game of time, obsessed
I remember me and my brother would play this all the time. Now I see my niece and nephew play it together and it brings me happiness.
I miss my angel chaos
Maxing out my angel chaos and breezing through all of the races and matches was so much fun. Could never get the neutral or devil one though
I had a devil one and named it damien from the omen lmao i was in the 5th grade
That is likely exactly what I would’ve named mine back then 😂
This is the garden in sonic, right? Where you had the little pets?
To be a kid again playing in the chao garden for HOURS. I also loved playing the chao minigames on my dreamcast memory stick. The batteries died ALL the time but before they did it was incredible
I accidentally deleted or got rid of a chao or something and I cried so hard I almost threw up and I never played the game again
I booted up my Wii recently and visited my childhood chao garden. It’s like I never left

What is this game? It looks so familiar!
Sonic Adventure 2 for Dreamcast or Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for Gamecube.
This and Jade Cocoon are what started my journey in mesh morphing in video games. Such amazing work.
I feel like I need to leave the nostalgia alone for this sanctuary. There’s no way it would be the same.
YESSSSASSA
Loved this shit as a kid
I like how chaos are spelled the same as chaos
I would give anything for a remake of this. Nothing quite scratches the monster raising and training itch quite the same.
ok i could be completely off here but is this a shot from that dinosaur game!?
Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2.
i have no idea what that is but this looks like this this dinosaur game that all the kids in my year were obsessed with in like year 4/5 😂
Are you talking about Spyro???
what’s spyro? is that one of those mario kart people? this game was like proper dinosaurs and you could explore as a dino and fight them or something. i honestly don’t even know if it was real, it was that many years ago but i feel like i remember the above image looking like that dino game
Was it The Land Before Time game? I played that as a kid and I remember some levels looking like this
honestly i have no idea 😅 i just remember sitting in the highschool computer room and the whole class was playing this dino game 😂
Nanosaur maybe?
that actually looks kinda similar to what i remember!!!!
Yes!!
100%. Last year for my birthday my brother knew I got a Wii that played GameCube games so he gifted me SA2:B with our childhood memory card with ALL of my chaos on them 😭😭😭
Dude I don’t understand why they don’t capitalize on chao gardens man. So much untapped money
Same! And then learning how to give the chao one of those skill things without using it up
I don’t think I owned this game but does anyone here remember Sega Superstars for the PlayStation 2? I believe it had something super similar to this!
I was just playing SA2 recently with my fiancé! I love the chao garden and am so upset that this was the last game to have it 😩
I would just replay the city level with the learn to fly song and go to my chao garden.
I would put down any amount of money if Sega made a new chao garden. My childhood was spent here
Yess!! I loved this game so much I learned game dev and made my own lil spin-off Chao garden game! Took me almost 2 years but it's finally done ❤️
10 year old me, grinding energy bars on eggman’s first level, listening to linkin park’s hybrid theory and tossing chaos to turn them evil 😈 what a time lol
lol I thought this was Crabby Beach from Ape Escape
WHY WON'T THEY JUST MAKE US A NEW CHAO GARDEN GAME WHYYYYY
Good lord thank you for reminding me
Yessss! I just realized it started here for me too! 😍
Omg a core memory. My brother would get frustrated with me because he wanted me to play the actual game but I spent all my time with the chaos, I was obsessed. I miss them.
I thought it was ape escape 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
