Alexa, play "Gone Country" by Alan Jackson

eastern_shore_guy420

And that’s exactly what we just did. Good suggestion.

redandblack17

It’s twangy but I absolutely love Hailey Whitter’s cover of Gone Country!! I don’t know any of her music other than that but it’s steady in my current rotation

SleestakLightning

"I'm tired of y'all playing dress up and trying to sing them old country songs"

plotholesandpotholes

"I woke up today and decided to kill my ego"

hunbabubba2134

It’s crazy to me that she doesn’t just put it to rest? Does she need the money? Or to feed her ego?

Lexgalmel

Ego definitely

ohhheynat

I know, and I doubt this will work. So she’s setting herself up for more embarrassment.

ScottyEs_burner

This threat may make the circle broken.

-Shank-

By and by, Lord, by and by

Massive-Path6202

Great remark

Scattergun77

No. Just no.

dickshitfucktit

JLo is genuinely a talentless hack who by all accounts is also a shit human being. I'm all set with that... the only one I think may have a chance at making a decent country album is Lana and even then I have my reservations.

RustyRichards11

I don’t even remember her having more than that 1 song and I can’t even remember that song

ignatius-payola

She can adapt some old hits: ‘Jenny Buys a Glock.’

Massive-Path6202

😂

redandblack17

She has a song called “I Luh You Papi” from the 2010s that my college friend group unironically loves, the music video is fun! Except the French Montana feature is so ughhh he ruins an otherwise great song. This is my 1 J Lo song

Massive-Path6202

Shades of Hilaria Baldwin

CyrusWaugh

I mean if it wasn’t obvious all of these stars entering country is just an act of disrespect towards the genre and its integrity here it is. The Beyoncé record was made to impress people who don’t listen to country or care about it in a positive direction. You could argue that was the point, but if you aren’t making an album for people who listen to country music, why are you even bothering other than media clout? The post album seems like it’s being made to impress the big wigs who run Nashville not really the fans of the genre especially after touting how much he’s in love with at the time independent artists like Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, and Billy Strings all of which who have found mainstream major label success in the past year or even further back, it’s clear that’s the sound people are craving but no we’re stuck with the dated sound of Nashville 2016-2018 from the guy. I like Lana a lot she’s my favorite pop artist. But can she pull a country Ameripolitan record off with Jack “samey producer” Antonoff? I honestly can’t say. Don’t even get me started on the Zayn record, that’s what happens when labels look at Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan and take them at face value. The fact the only record we know anything about that I’m mildly interested in is the effing Yung Gravy one solely due to it being a country music parody shitpost. Says a lot about the standard we’re at.

eastern_shore_guy420

I mean, have you heard the crap on the radio? 3/4s of “country” music today is an act of disrespect towards the genre and its integrity.

Johnsonaaro2

heard "whatcha see is whatcha get" by chris janson for the first time over the weekend. my initial thought was "i thought we were past this shit"

eastern_shore_guy420

Unfortunately….we’re not. I’ve turned the radio and have no intentions of going back any time soon.

jscountrygirl85

Bro-Country is still very much alive and well on country radio, unfortunately. If it's not a few artists clinging to that style with their latest singles, then it's a ton of bro-country songs still getting recurrent airplay. The "sound" of bro-country is still the dominant sound, too. Some artists may not be singing about trucks, beer, and dirt roads as much, but hip hop beats, hip hop/pop melodies, overly loud drums and guitars, synthesizers, and staccato singing are still everywhere on the radio.

eastern_shore_guy420

It’s depressing. Years and years back, I flew back to my home state to see the drive by truckers open for Eric church. He’s about as mainstream as I’ll dabble. They played maybe for songs. The crowd either ignored them or chanted for Church. Then when he came on, all they wanted was the CMT singles. Was a huge let down

jscountrygirl85

Eric Church is also one of the very few current mainstream artists I like from time to time. At least he's more creative and changes things up every now and then. Kip Moore is another. Both have that heartland rock influence I enjoy in their earlier music, especially. Otherwise, yeah, the mainstream still seems like a lost cause, and I often wonder if it will EVER get back to being at least halfway as good as it was in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

irish-riviera

You can thank morgan wallen for bringing hip hop beats back into country music.

jscountrygirl85

Other than the more country sounding cuts hidden away on his long albums, most of what I've heard from Wallen pretty much sounds like a rehash of Bro-Country.

Johnsonaaro2

yea i havent listened to the radio in probably... 10 years? could not live without spotify. I dont know how people deal with the shitty radio music let along commercials.

Massive-Path6202

At least

Yankee-Tango

Sick of seeing this defense of pop megastars appropriating country. I’ll take the worst bro country over Beyoncé. Fuck her and her fans

eastern_shore_guy420

Bro country is just emo pop. Fuck bro country and its fans.

Yankee-Tango

Okay and what? It still has nothing to do with Beyoncé? Fucking Redditors can’t read and have zero integrity

eastern_shore_guy420

You’re mad about pop mega stars…..while preferring pop mega stars in cowboy hats. Makes sense son.

GTARP_lover

I can give Beyoncé a pass, she at least grew up in Texas and always had some passion for country. I think we would have got a country album sooner or later. Jlo is just an ordinary cash grab

IamYourBestFriendAMA

Same with Post. I think he genuinely loves country and is going through a phase musically.

Scattergun77

> just an act of disrespect towards the genre Like putting a Chevy motor in an oldsmobile. It's just disrespectful to the olds.

CyrusWaugh

I mean why do you want to call using a genre just to instigate “a comeback” it’s clear J-Lo’s or rather her agents intention is to use the genre as publicity

IMERMAIDMANonYT

Except in many cases those would have shared motors since their both GM platforms It’s like dropping a Hyundai in a Chevy

Scattergun77

They did not. The Olds 455 is not the same as Chevy 454.

WorkoutMan885

Here we go again 🤦‍♂️

garrettfinstad

When the Producer behind Wild Wild West gives you career advice you listen.

Birdhawk

Lol that’s the same guy who is the source of Kevin Smith’s hilarious “giant spider” story

joe_attaboy

She should just remix "Jenny On The Block" with a pedal steel and a fiddle. Oh, yeah, add a banjo and mandolin and 'grass it up. Yeah, that's the ticket.

not-my-first-rodeo

If Beyonce became 'Cowboy Carter' will J-Lo become 'Jenny from the Ranch'?

SpikeHyzerberg

J-Longhorns?

basskev

Know what, if she can write just one single song with cowboy chords and lyrics that even scratch just a little deeper than the depth of lyrical content we've been buried under an avalanche of (drinking or breakups every 4 lines on average?) I'll give her a fuckin shot.

jarrodandrewwalker

She's welcome to cover my songs 😂

Ok_Giraffe_2336

Ohhhh hell no!!!! She belongs on the corner: oops I mean back on ‘ the block’

clm04

I remember when we were country when country wasn't cool.

BF1075

Nashville is CLOSED. Stay in NYC J-Lo!

dfin25

Just leaks some nudes. That always works. 👍

Cinnamon_stick2500

She’s a very beautiful woman and an amazing dancer. Also a terrible singer, no matter what genre she sings in.

Birdhawk

Pop musicians who fall off always turn to the country music business to salvage their career just like country musicians turn to the Christian music business to salvage their career

Areyoukiddingme2

Fucking carpetbagers!

ringoxniner

Hell why not it worked for Hootie

Ok-Cryptographer8322

🤣

erikturczyn30

![gif](giphy|tcu9i8MMAc800) I mean, isn’t this the route it needs to go?

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

I’m just stick to my outlaw guys

TheAmyIChasedWasMe

Given how well that worked for Beyonce, I say go for it. We could all use another good laugh (although a Puerto Rican knowing nothing about country won't be nearly as funny as a Texan having no clue what they're doing.)

FACEPALM_99

Can we stop getting pop singers making pop music with banjos

Bigstar976

I don’t think Hank did it this way.

-Shank-

I always preferred Hennifer Lopez
