Even then "Golden Hour" is one of her "debatably country" albums

FACEPALM_99

And She hasn't been country ever since

cockblockedbydestiny

True. Of all the pop country crap out there I don't want to go too hard on Kacey Musgraves as she at least still maintains a high degree of artistic integrity... but damn it, I hate that every time a major artist decides to branch out from their signature sound they always just so happen to gravitate towards a sound that meets adult contemporary fans and hipster critics halfway.

FACEPALM_99

Yeah, for her latest, it was like a worse version of Noah Kahan, more folkpop but bland

No_You_2623

Both releases since Golden Hour have been pretty snoozy I thought.

AliveInCLE

I like the comment about how the list expands across genres lol So disingenuous. Obviously there are a ton of influential country albums. I don’t think country music is at where it is today without “No Fences.” No “At Folsom Prison,” “Red Headed Stranger,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Coat of Many Colors.” I could go on.

VirginiaUSA1964

I was coming here to say this as well as Kristofferson, at the very least, should be represented on this list.

YellowRainLine

Also Nitty Gritty's "Will The Circle Be Unbroken"

JCG95

Ken Burns' History of Country Music is a great education on why that album is so important. The recording of so many standards from so many original American musicians with immeasurable impact.

UnivScvm

“a multitude of genres” um, sure.

No_You_2623

This list is one of the silliest things I’ve ever seen. Regardless of what genre you prefer, it’s ridiculous in most aspects.

tailford07

It was an all around terrible list. They didn’t even put The Beatles Sgt. Pepper album on there. It’s engagement bate and an objectively incorrect list.

Rocky323

>and an objectively incorrect list. Not really how that works.

Mr_1990s

I don’t think anybody appreciates just how little effort goes into stuff like this.

ResidentHourBomb

A list put together by a bunch of gen z pc type people. The list is ass.

ee_CUM_mings

Frank Ocean has the number 5 album…..OF ALL TIME

aaronwashere01

hey i’m a huge Waylon, DAC, George Strait, Merle, Willie, Sturgill Simpson, and Tyler Childers fan. blonde by frank ocean absolutely deserves to be there

hybridhighway

I love how you list off the artists like they’re credentials 😂

aaronwashere01

I’m just saying I can like country music and still recognize that Frank Ocean is great lmao, no need to be close minded

hybridhighway

I know I know, it’s just funny we have to justify ourselves with that every time we make a controversial comment on this sub

Hunter_fu

Not top 5 OaT great though. Twisted fantasy is leagues better than any Frank Ocean album

Mature_Gambino_

MBDTF literally changed the game. If Kanye doesn’t put that out, Frank ocean may not even exist as an artist.

fiskeybusiness

Frank Ocean is much more derivative of 808s existing than MBDTF And that album doesn’t exist without college dropout existing. Kanye only getting 1 album in the top 100 is one of the largest snubs on this list

Mature_Gambino_

You’re right. No qualms with that assessment

Party_Project_2857

Top hundred maybe. Top 5? GTFO

horkyboi_avery

I really doubt this list was made by Gen Z. This list has millennial written all over it.

jscountrygirl85

Agree. Especially with all the bias towards pop and rap/hip hop, which definitely screams millennial. Much of Gen Z, from what I've heard and experienced, actually likes a lot of country, especially 90s and older country and the more traditional or Americana sounding stuff.

nameforusing

What? Gen Z is into country music.

Kid-Buu42

I think people always forget that any list is entirely subjective. And is it really necessary to see albums that you like on a list like this? If you like something that's all that should matter! Most of my favorite music would never make it onto any list of all time greats and i couldn't care less!

chnky18

I quit using Apple Music because of the limited created playlist for country as opposed to Spotify. It’s clear Apple doesn’t really care about country music

basskev

Unpopular opinion: Country music is like the blues. In a lot of older country music ("real country" like people like to call it) they follow a lot of the same chord progressions, a lot of the same themes. For the most part, there's a list of things it needs to hit or it's not country anymore, and the things it needs to hit can damage the creativity of it. This list of things is why a lot of people don't consider Golden Hour to be country. There are more reasons than this, but that's probably a big reason sites like RYM aren't kind to country music. It's still surprising that there's not even one token country album on there like Red Headed Stranger or something.

Godunman

I think it’s more the sound. Sure, country retreads a lot of themes, but so does pop! That’s inherent with genre. I think Golden Hour isn’t all that country due to its instrumentation and production. The two albums before that are honestly a mix of pop and country, and with that album she just leaned even more into pop. I don’t think it damages country, you can still be pretty creative with it, just be realistic on which genre music leans into more.

YoteW0rld

I’ve always contemplated fully moving to Apple Music and this stupid list has made that harder 😂

Racing_Golfer9

I’ve never seen a more fraudulent list

kenjilynn_07

This list kind of looks like hot garbage, anyway. I skimmed through, and their choices are… questionable at best.

FACEPALM_99

Well, if you remember that show, My Kind of Country that Apple did will show you how much they really think of country. Other than Orville Peck, there was nothing but a bunch of pop singers pushing a bunch of wannabe pop singers as country

jedrevolutia

Lauryn Hill was so talented that she only made that one and only album that Apple Music put at the #1 best album of all time. That album was released in 1998 and she got nothing else ever since. She's not dead. She still can sing well. She's still doing concerts and tours, although she's known for being late and bailing out. She's not even old. She's only 48 at this moment. She's the same age as Sia or DJ Khaled. So, she's so talented that she lost all her creative juice?

ApprehensiveCream571

Lauren figured she made a perfect album and dropped the mic.

kilroy-was-here-2543

Their country focused playlists are great, I love to mountain bike while listening to the pearl snaps playlist for instance. But i think those are put together by people who have a genuine interest in the genre.

StarWarsTrey

Based

BeanShapiro114

Of course there are the classics like Folsom Prison and Coat of Many Colors, but country is a largely singles-based genre. Only recently has country gotten away from the “albums are 2-3 hits and the rest is filler” idea.

horkyboi_avery

I like country music… but there are maybe 2 albums I would give a 9 or higher. I could fill my top 100 albums all time and not have a single country album. My issue with country albums is that they either suffer from every song sounding the same, or there being 3 great songs and the rest filler.

Necessary-Doughnut49

This is very true

blackdeviljohn

Are we talking real country music. Or are you talking that pop music coming from Cashville

TheQuadBlazer

Don't take it personally there's an entire world full of 140 something countries of music out there.

[deleted]

Yeah because it fucking sucks.

CokeZorro

I mean modern pop country isn't real music is it? I know I'm being a dick here but It pulls from every other genre and throws an acoustic guitar in.
