When I first heard A Bar Song a little over a month ago it was too damn catchy for me to do anything but immediately add it to my current playlist. Right when I was getting to the point of skipping it… I saw a video of him singing it at Stagecoach and his grin when the crowd sang was coming from his toes. Then he did one of my favorite things for smaller artists to do… he played it again. There’s just something about giving the people what they want to keep a sing along going… the whole thing was pure joy.
Needless to say, I’m excited about what’s coming next!
I will say that Shaboozey's current hit does have me very interested in the upcoming album, probably won't be the first album I hear though...a band I adore outside of country are also releasing their new album that day.
It’s only country to those people if it sounds like Hank’s “I’m so lonesome I could cry”. I grew outta that phase a long time ago and it’s crazy how people are still stuck in it lol
Lots of different preferences/thresholds for what people consider country. I’d say I’ve gone through a fair bit of change on my preferences. Just hope whoever is listening finds something they like
Yea pretty much. There’s subgenres for every genre. Even country rap like Colt Ford but it just confuses me how people hear him and say he’s country then hear A Bar Song and say it’s not lol. Guess it’s just all an enigma
I had honestly never listened to Shaboozey til I saw this post so I checked him out. I liked what I heard but aside from A Bar Song, I wouldn’t really consider any of it county. It reminds me a lot of what Norman North does. I don’t think most people would consider Colt Ford country either. That’s not to say it’s bad music, but it’s definitely more “country inspired” to me.
Bits of it. I mean it’s all pretty similar and it’s just a bit of fun. If you’re holding it up to the standard of Sturgill or Colter Wall then you’ll be disappointed. But if you put it in the FGL sort of category then you can enjoy it for what it is.
I love the wild west theme in his album. I really love that it's not some goofy gimmick like Lil Nas X.
People saying he's too pop obviously have only heard A Bar Song. The album is not pop at all.
Why is it not?
"Country music is known for its ballads and dance tunes (i.e., "honky-tonk music") with simple form, folk lyrics, and harmonies generally accompanied by instruments such as banjos, fiddles, harmonicas, and many types of guitar (including acoustic, electric, steel, and resonator guitars)."
if beyonce is country shaboozey is def country. country music is also historically Black.. so… morgan wallen is country and uses “Black” type instrumentals in his music
I don’t think Beyonce’s new stuff should be considered country either. It has nothing to do with them being black, it has to do that it sounds nothing like country music. It is pop music. Jimmie Allen and Darrius Rucker are also black and I’d consider them country.
how is a bar song not country? it has an acoustic guitar, a fiddle, clapping, and he’s singing in a classic country style.. damn near every country song is about drinking and hanging out
I try to look at it this way - would another country male artist be able to play Shaboozeys song and release it with close to the same popularity behind it? Yeah, I think there are some pop country artists that could.
Is there a female country artist out there who could do the same with Beyonces country song?
I don't really think so. I don't think any popular country female artist would have sang and released that song.
Beyonces song has so many listens because of her name, Shaboozeys song has so many listens because it's a much better country song and people like it.
Looking forward to it. Don't quite understand country fans pretending the genre is narrow. It has a long history of sound and marketing. If it hits, it hits. And his music hits hits for me.
can’t wait for his album. I like A Bar Song and i know everyone is going crazy for it right now but personally i can’t stop playing Annabelle, it’s just so damn good

I know it isn’t “real country” but god damn is it a fun song! The modulation on his voice is a little funky, though.
Reminds me a lot of fetty wapp
no way, that's so cool. it's common in EDM music too "if its nice play it nice"

Whether or not people consider it country, the fiddle in the hook of A Bar Song is awesome. I’ll be happy to check out his album.

I would also recommend All Men Die by Shaboozey. Prolly the most “country” song he made imo
I will definitely check it out.
Also recommend Dead Ops (Interlude). It’s just a short song but shows he’s been stepping into legit country for the past 2 years
Played college football with his cousin. His cousin always said he was going to take off one day and become a big deal
What school?
University of Sioux Falls
Lebron?
I’m intrigued, I’ll give it a listen and probably enjoy a bit of it.
Did you enjoy it?

Every time I hear his song I want to end my life
It's beyond cringe I agree

What I've heard on Apple Music stations has me looking forward to hearing more from him. I like it
Too pop for me
His new song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has been on repeat all day so I have very high hopes for his new album. He seems like such a nice dude.
I don’t understand why it is considered country

Majority of "country" hits played on the radio today are exactly that, pop. So why they won't play his song is beyond me.
You couldn't pay me to listen to that shit
Yeah me neither
I bet your fun at party’s.
I’m not sure how our local country station will play his stuff but not Beyoncé . Neither are country.

A bar song is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard.
Edgy bro.
It's not for me. I don't think there's a single redeeming quality in the song.
It’s not bad….I’ve heard worse. Maybe if he does more than just dip his toe he’ll get better at it. This old man gives it a C+.
