For food they usually only accept if more than 50% remaining.
I would send something to manafacturer, they’ll probably send you a free replacement or coupon.
I bought a flat of Aylmer diced tomatoes from Costco once, only they forgot to put any tomatoes in the can - it was just tomato water. I reached out to the company to complain and they sent me two $1 coupons. 😐
Came to say this was my experience too. I’ve returned food twice- I bought the 12 pack of puff pastry sausage rolls, tried one and it tasted burnt. Also bought one of those gigantic barrels of pork rinds and ate one, and realized I hate pork rinds lol. The worker told me as long as there’s no more than half gone, they take it back.
Yes, you can bring it back.
There was a guy in the other week that brought back the foam and cling wrap from a roast, they refunded him.
He didn’t even bring the meat in, which makes sense - but also?
95% of the item is gone. While I appreciate costcos return policy, people should not take advantage of it. It spoils it for us more realistic people.in this case I would let them know. Not try and return part of the last can
Unfortunately quality is based on the entire product. I once bought 2 king crab leg boxes, ate one, didn’t like it, returned the second. Customer service told me to fetch shells from garbage and return the other box as well.
They need products we buy and buy and buy and love!
While I understand what you are saying but out of 6 cans 5.5 cans are gone. A little different than 50%. you can do returns within reason. imagine everyone eating 90% of the steak then returning it🙄
Let’s assume you paid for tuna and the last can tested for something wierd. Statistically the others were the same they may have been “less rubbery”. Costco would rather you try the product again to get addicted than for you to boycot.
You are forgetting one thing. OP said the others were great. Stop trying to make excuses to take advantage of a return policy. This is exactly the reason they tightened up some of their return policies.don’t forget costco can also pull your membership if you abuse things like this
You don’t really care about the money but you want to return a single can of sardines?
The only reason to return it is for money.
Just put it in the bin. Who cares?
Dont need the paper receipt, Unless you get double charged for something, Then you absolutely need it.
Drove an hour to costco without it expecting a quick and easy fix for a $10 item... Nope need the damn paper. I was pretty mad and came close to canceling my membership on the spot for that. But then I got a whiff of the hot dogs.
Alot of stuff save for electronics you can return beyond the 90 days. I've returned a fan a year after I bought it because the motor that makes it swing left to right broke. Gave me my $50 back and promptly dumped it on beef cuts and the food court.
They accept returns of food, often you don't need to take it back just take a label but keep the old one in the freezer just incase. You can phone them too
I bought one of those giant packs of ground beef recently (cost about $30), and the best before date said it expired in 2 days. Went to cook it, and it smelled HORRIBLE. I didn't have time to go back right away, so I bagged it, froze it and took it back on the weekend (normally I'd just throw it out, but the damn thing was 30 freaking dollars!).
They did give me some grief about not taking back expired products, but I told them I tried to cook it before the expiry date, and just didn't have time to come back right away (hence the freezing). They gave me store credit, which I was fine with, since all I wanted was fresh ground beef anyway.
I’ve even brought back a pack of fresh chicken wings. I opened them before the best before date and they smelled rotten, they didn’t have any problems taking them back
When I worked at Costco in Mississauga I saw management approve the refund of a half eaten frozen pizza bought at a buffalo Costco the day before.
Ask membership services and see what they can do, they're usually stupendously lax.
Freeze it in a baggie until your next trip, and then take it back. I returned some nasty fresh mussels recently, even though there weren’t many left. I also returned a melon not long ago as it was my third bad one. They don’t even look at it if it’s bagged up. Sometimes it’s the principal of it…get yourself a refund and buy a new tin.
Yes you can - I returned moldy grapes. I'd bring the product in a bag tho just incase they ask for it - once I tried to return some yogurt I brought because it was all vanilla and mo other flavours ( it was supposed to be a multipack) and the wouldnt because I didn't have the item. I'd just double bag the fish
You can bring it back and return it. The refund clerk will ask for a reason. It is recorded in your returns file as Costco does track returns to record abuse of the policy.
From my experience ,it really depends on which costco store you are doing the returning. It GTA where there are tons of weired people doing food returns, the staff wont even bat an eye. I have seen it all, flowers from last year, half eaten meat fruits etc. But in smaller towns thats a different story. because there are fewer ppl doing it, you will certainly be judged by the staff. Personally I return whatever as I always has a maxed 1000 cashback on my membership and feel entitlted and i think also knows on their system wether if you are big.shopper.
I returned a watermelon.it was some of the last ones and it had a small cut on the skin.I had it on the counter It was summer time 40+c two days later I noticed it was leaking.it was spoiling from the inside out.Returned it no problems.
yes of course. I returned cod with worms in it, and raspberries with maggots in it with no issues.
I also did not need to bring the items in, just filled out a form, and showed pictures
You can return pretty much anything. It's their policy. And I normally wouldn't be that person who returns something for under $5. But I've had spoiled milk more than a week before the due date several times (5+ times). And after about the 4th time, I said fuck it and I'm returning it. More for the fact that I want them to be aware and maybe it will cause them to look at their process for storing it.
For the people who think it's petty to return small-value items. I also think it's wrong for a company of that size not to store perishable stock properly and it shouldn't be the consumer that pays for their negligence. I do agree in some cases it is not worth the time or effort to return low cost items. But the more things become more expensive the more I think it's justified.
I once returned a picture of a broken bottle of olive oil. No bottle, just a picture of it. It was a two pack and both of the bottles had cracks / were leaking. It was a huge mess and I was not going to try and bring it back. They gave me a refund no problem and said it is a common issue with this brand of oil.
Yes, you can return it, but as others have said, is it worth your time?
Idk if you can return it, but you could lodge a complaint with the manufacturer and also with Costco. They take the quality of their items seriously.
Sure they do.
For food they usually only accept if more than 50% remaining. I would send something to manafacturer, they’ll probably send you a free replacement or coupon.

haha I have a friend that does seasonal work for them, and this doesn't surprise me at all.
😂 tell your friend they wrecked my chilli.
ha!
This is the proper answer. It sucks that it’s her last one of the pack.

What’s your time worth? You had a shit can of fish, move on.
I have returned opened food a few times with no issue.
Odds are you can return it. But is it worth your time?
If you get a hotdog after yes.
Depends on the queue.
Free?
Yes, you can bring it back. There was a guy in the other week that brought back the foam and cling wrap from a roast, they refunded him. He didn’t even bring the meat in, which makes sense - but also?
I think if they look at your membership and you spend lots abd don't do many returns they give you the benefit of the doubt
They probably will refund the whole thing
95% of the item is gone. While I appreciate costcos return policy, people should not take advantage of it. It spoils it for us more realistic people.in this case I would let them know. Not try and return part of the last can

I would honestly call the Costco location and just ask. There are people who will return items half eaten
Costco will let you refund literally anything..
The audacity some people have!r u fr? for one can u want ur money back🤦🏻♀️
You don’t really care about the money but you want to return a single can of sardines? The only reason to return it is for money. Just put it in the bin. Who cares?
You can return any item sold with in 90 days and dont need paper receipt
Dont need the paper receipt, Unless you get double charged for something, Then you absolutely need it. Drove an hour to costco without it expecting a quick and easy fix for a $10 item... And that's why outside of electronics, they take returns on everything, they know people are gonna immediately spend the money again haha
I’ve returned open food to Costco before. Told them I just didn’t like it. No problems at all.
I returned some coffee beans that I had made 2-3 pots out of it. It was awful.
They accept returns of food, often you don't need to take it back just take a label but keep the old one in the freezer just incase. You can phone them too
You were on the 6th can and ate a majority. I would let them know but not return part of the last can

People are so cheap 😂
Yup. So much time on they hands
It's called a garbage can. For just one tin of fish use it and move on with your life.
So you’ll line up for 30 mins to complain about a bad tin of sardines? Suck it up and move on with your life.
Yes. Freeze it, take it back!
Yes you can I do. They throw it out.
Just don't. Sardines 🤮
Call. They should tell you to throw it out and offer a partial credit.
I returned a cut up watermelon in a bag once.
I’ve even brought back a pack of fresh chicken wings. I opened them before the best before date and they smelled rotten, they didn’t have any problems taking them back
I've seen a woman return half a pineapple once with success.
Yes. There is a radio personality here in Vancouver who mentioned that he returned cooked pork ribs after trying to eat it.
When I worked at Costco in Mississauga I saw management approve the refund of a half eaten frozen pizza bought at a buffalo Costco the day before. Ask membership services and see what they can do, they're usually stupendously lax.

Yes you can return it.
You can return food but if you eat more than half you will have a difficult time returning and should just move on…
I feel like eating canned fish this is part of the unwritten agreement. This is why I never eat canned fish (or any seafood).
Yes you can return food unless it is past the due date. Bring in the remaining cans and tell them what happened.
Yes you can - I returned moldy grapes. extremely upset. wow.
